    Double Pretender Megatron was worth it for two things;
    1: The idea of Frank Welker shouting "SUIT ON! _PRETENDER!_ "
    2: Spacewarp's dialogue with him and her bio describing her in ways that sound like she's his wife.

      Of Masters and Mayhem was just silly "we're losing the license anyway; might as well go out with a fanwanky bang" fun. Didn't hurt that we had great prose stories like "Life Finds a Way" (the one with the Raptoricons, LOVE those babes), the one that actually touches on the nuances of Bluestreak's character (the PTSD that he distracts himself from by chatting so much) and that tragic one that made Alpha Bravo and Off-Road into actual characters alongside really fun Combiner Wars retools/repaints (still the best Toxitron even after the Evolution one, Impactor and Fractyl are clever mold reuses, and there's something hysterical about G1 Optimus actually being made into both trukk and munky via a repaint of Oilmaster's shell).

    I won't argue that CW Megatron was perfect, but I liked it because they went with mostly silver instead of flat gray. That alone gives it a bit of G1 toy vibe that most versions don't have.

    • @visionop8
      @visionop8 Месяц назад +7

      I think it's perfect. I have it displayed in the foyer in a glass enclosure along with the CW seekers and a painted background. Megatron is posed with one hand on his hip, looking at Starscream with his coronation crown on (the crown came with CW Starscream) People smile and ask about it literally EVERY time they come in the door, and it's usually, "Oh my god where did you get that Megatron?"

  • @DragmaKerp

    CW Megatron wasn't perfect, but it was the first G1 styled megatron since the Classics Nerf gun one if I'm not mistaken, nowadays it got overshadowed a lot, but at the time it wasn't that bad.
    For me the list lacks one very important Megatron. The original G1 one. Yes is nostalgic, yes the microchange one was kinda cool, but it never was good as the leader of the decepticons or to be paired with the other transformer toys. He was flimsy, weird proportioned, very thin on parts, unfortunate placed trigger on his robot mode... Lots of thinks you complain about in other ones in the list, specially the MP one, apply to the G1. Maybe not include it in the list proper because first and such... but at least an honorable mention...

    I always thought that the best bet for a Transformers G.I.Joe crossover would be to focus on figures that already turn into military style vehicles, maybe Hound, Warpath, and the aerial bots for Autobots/Joe, the seekers, Combaticons, and Blitzwing for Decepticons/Cobra.

    • @BainesMkII
      @BainesMkII Месяц назад +6

      The cold reality is that bigger names sell better, overriding logical design sense. From a design standpoint, it was obvious the green military jeep (Vamp) should be matched with the green military jeep (Hound), and at least reasonable for the green dune buggy (Striker) to be the blue/grey dune buggy (Beachcomber). However, Bumblebee is one of the three biggest names in modern Transformers, so we instead got a normally yellow car Bumblebee shoehorned into becoming a green dune buggy.

      @@BainesMkII Then why did the choose Kupp for Slaughter's Triple T? Kupp isn't exactly an established name in the line.
      They just throw darts at a board of names and vehicles.

    • @BainesMkII
      @BainesMkII Месяц назад

      @@cujoedaman The only surprise with Kupp is that he's coming before an Optimus Prime. Beyond Bumblebee and Optimus, the rest of the Autobots are more of an interchangeable grab bag. Kupp is also coming several years into this line, giving Hasbro time to react to consumer reception and criticism.
      As for the continued lack of an Optimus Prime, that could be a price or scale issue. Hasbro presumably wants Optimus to be both big and iconic, to match Megatron's HISS. That leaves out smaller vehicles like the VAMP or RAM. But the direct counterpart to the HISS is the MOBAT, an even larger tank which would be even more expensive (and likely face even more criticism for being even more hollow). Something like the Flagg is out of the question, while flying vehicles like the Skystriker and Dragonfly may be too much of a stretch for Optimus. That pretty much leaves less popular and/or wonkier options, like the HAVOC or the somewhat dull APC.

    My hottest of hot takes this year; Combiner Wars Megatron would've been better recived as a voyager, and further I'm convinced it was concived as Voyager for Thrilling 30 the year before but somehow and for some reason it was blew up to leader size, nothing was changed to make it fit the size class better and released in Combiner Wars to pad the Leader price point for that year. Nothing about the figure says Leader Class, but it feels like a Thrilling 30 Voyager Class and nothing will convince me that that wasn't the og intent behind the design. It would have been recived better as a voyager.
    Nothing will change my mind.

    I actually don't mind earthrise Megatron as an earth tank. Keep in mind there were only slight changes to the vehicle from siege to earthrise on other characters. Anything more may have been a bit too drastic. Maybe. But as a robot? The head, excessive back pack and awkward weapons are overwhelmingly inconvenient. Add in the already flimsy feet and you have a strong candidate for worst megatron anyway. I can go all day about this and that but the titanium anything will always rank high in all time worst. Many of these were about timing when they were released. As bad as the combiner wars Megatron was, the paint scheme and close enough head scult at retail was cool. I have the Combiner Wars and the Seige Megatron. Combiner looked like they concentrated too hard on the tank and Seige looks like they didn't know what to do with it. I had the ice megatron and the beast machines ones. Your points are justified. Since I don't think Megatron would disguise himself. I think his alt mode should be based on using his fusion cannon on full power.

    I have nostalgia for combiner wars megatron, it's the one I grew up with and I like how it looks. It's big, and has a presence to it, with real moving treads and a nice swiveling turret. It looks good standing on a shelf.
    Unfortunately, the posing is abysmal, his legs literally cant move forward. He has good qualities to him but I dont recommend him

    The reasons for Cybertron’s Most Wanted Megatron being here are pretty silly I think, especially when it’s a well liked mold, and is very clearly a novelty item. It being sold for really cheap during a fire sale isn’t really indicative of the quality of a toy either, same with being a redeco “nobody asked for”. If you need to get rid of items really quickly for cheap, you sell them for half price, and weird repaints used to happen all the time. I think stuff like that made Transformers more fun. There’s definitely some kind of demand for it too, because the figure on its own sells for around $100.
    A good example would be something like Animated Jackpot. I would never have thought to ask funpub to turn the Animated Jazz mold into him, but they did & it’s pretty awesome.

    Beyond all of the other issues with HISS Megatron, I don't like that they didn't make the twin turret the replacement for his arm cannon. Instead they just made the HISS turret part of his backpack in robot mode, and tank mode gets an out-of-place Megatron fusion cannon that can sit on top of the regular turret?

    Sorry but, me taking this video seriously.... was kinda 'hurt" out of the gate by picking on Siege Megatron. One of the Best, modern-age, "G1 Megatron" representations. Maybe if he was just referring to the goofy-earthrise remold but, then again, that's not an objectively bad figure either. It has a lot going for it, as it's based on the Siege foundation.

    I feel the opposite about Seige/Earthrise Megatron. I don't like any of the Seige figures because they're suppose to be Cybertronian but they are the WORST laziest looking Cybertronian modes I have ever seen in Transformers.
    A Cybertronian design is suppose to look futuristic, high tech, alien. War Within did that, WfC/FoC did that, Beast Machines did that, Animated did that, even freaking Dawn of Futures Past did it with molds that weren't even originally intended to be that. But Seige, a toy line that was all about Cybertronian designs just gave us lazy pretools that already looked like their eventual Earth modes.
    Earthrise actually looks better to me because that's the design he was intended to have from the start. The Cybertronian mode is just the Earth mode with barely anything changed on it.
    Also I've heard horror stories about MP Megatron breaking in half. I'm surprised you didn't mention that. But honestly... Megatron as a gun is always the worst Megatron. The only reason people even want gun Megatron is for accuracy to the G1 cartoon and beyond that it was always a terrible design.
    I'm going to add Armada Megatron... and I'm putting him here for one reason... I HATE the head design on this figure. If he didn't have the antlers and the head could retract into the torso I would love this design but for some reason they gave him giant antlers that work as a capture claw in vehicle mode but he's a tank when are you ever going to get close enough to use that? It's a dumb weapon. Also it has a pannel that flips out to hide his face but the pannel is useless cause you don't see his face anyway, it's pointed at the ground. They could have used that same gimmick to retract the head into the torso so he doesn't just have an obvious robot head right there. Oh and Galvatron is even worse because they swapped out his nice camo green color scheme for bright white and pink, what's he going to blend in to? Is he planning an assault on Candy Land and needs to blend in with Cotton Candy. I HATE the Galvatron colors on that toy. Megatron only looks bad because of the head but EVERYTHING looks bad when he's repainted into Galvatron.
    2007, RotF, DotM, and AoE are all terrible. I hate how he looks. But just so I'm not just complaining about my hate for the movie designs 2007 is also a pain to Transform, it really shouldn't be but it is. RotF has 2 figures and neither are screen accurate because the leader only looks correct in robot mode and the voyager only looks correct in vehicle mode. DotM has limited articulation with his cape on, his left arm can't move at all. The studio series version fixed that issue giving him a cloth cape which he should of had in the first place. And AoE Galvatron is essentually just a cube that folds onto his back, it doesn't really transform it's just shoving his robot mode into a box.
    TLK I just think his face is ugly but there's a version with a battle mask and this Megatron looks more solid than all the other Megatrons so this is honestly the one good Bay Megatron.
    Cybertron mode Animated Megatron. The Earth Mode is my favorite figure of the entire toy line but the Cybertron mode. They modeled him as a simplified version of the 2007 movie design and that vehicle mode is so bad even Hasbro themselves have no clue which direction is suppose to be the front or the top. In the show he was animated with the canon facing forward on the under side of the vehicle mode to match where the Earth mode canon would end up but the actual toy was molded with a cockpit on the back of the canon and landing gear on the opposite side so the vehicle mode was completly backwards and upside down from the animation model.
    I don't really like the Prime design either but the toy is actually fine for what it was. My only real complaint is that we never really got the Unicron possessed version. You could kind of approximate it if you had that Unicron figure that was only avalible in Japan that for some reason was deigned to combine with Optimus or Megatron but even that didn't really look how it did in the show.
    And I'm surprised to didn't mention Godzilla Megatron which doesn't really look like either of the characters it's meant to represent and just looks like a lazy Grimlock repaint with a different head that is not a Megatron head.

    • @Michael-590
      @Michael-590 Месяц назад

      Yeah, Armada Megatron is easily one of the goofiest incarnations of the character. His antlers make him look like a stag beetle and maybe even an insecticon. And his combined mode with Tidal Wave makes it look like it would be impossible to move his arms.

    • @RialVestro
      @RialVestro Месяц назад

      @@Michael-590 In animation it doesn't actually look that bad because Tidal Wave shrinks down when they combine. But the toy the parts are huge and he literally can't move his arms. The toy becomes a statue when they combine. I honestly wish they would just make a smaller Tidal Wave just for the sake of having an animation accurate combined mode that can still articulate.

  • @richardhodgson6711
    @richardhodgson6711 27 дней назад

    Eh, you're right about CW Megs, but, at the same time, you're also wrong. Yes, his articulation is pretty limited, and yes, the shoulders do look odd. BUT, the tank mode, imo, looks great, and the DX9 upgrade kit goes a long way to improving how the robot mode looks, and functions. I have the third party KBB Obsidian repaint of the mold, which comes with the DX9 kit in the box, and it transforms the look of the figure, and gives it a commanding shelf presence quite unlike any other mainline Megatron toy
