The 2nd lieutenant (the short red headed guy) cracks me up every time I watch this movie. The guy is such a savage XD Wolfgang did an awesome job casting all the characters in this movie.
He actually is pretty much like that in real life. Always played somewhat shady guys and got in trouble with the law several times because of drunken driving/ driving without a license. Love him.
I find this one of the most moving scenes, because it gives a rare insight in the private life of the enigmatic captain. For the most part, he seems to consist solely of steel nerves and piercing eyes, but here he has an almost boyish air. Too bad it isn't in the regular version of the film.
And the first officer, always so uptight, wakes up disheveled and rests his head on his fists as if he's momentally discouraged, but quickly gets a hold of himself and buttons his shirt before anyone sees.
2:49 From what I heard, the girls that went to Reich school usually came back pregnant with an officers child. And if they didn’t, and officer at least tried
Imagine waking up in the middle of the night to hear ALARM! and people rushing around scooping up water with buckets and an alarm blaring loudly in your ear.
This is perfect, the months I spent............ hee, 6 years making friends I will kill and die for........ I can't put into words ow much this scene means to me. I love this film

@@Rudolph1722This scene makes you see that every guy, whatever rank he has. Is human... They all have there personal feelings about the war.
Try the 5-hour-version. It is also available on bluray.
War is 90% boredom, 9% action, and the remaining 1% with situations causing lifelong PTSD.
