When Herbert Grönemeyer is riding the waves up on the sail, and having the time of his life - so reminds me of my first ride on the high seas! I love this film, for its humanity.
Well said. When the sea is rough, the vessel is rolling and pitching in strong waves and wind and you feel the sea spray on you - when you understand you are truly alive! What more does a man need in his life?
This has got to be one of the best war movies ever made. An honest and quite candid depiction of what life aboard the U-boat service was really like. U-boats raised hell out in the Atlantic, but I certainly wouldn't have wanted to be on one. Life was often short for those men. The Germans know how to make a good war movie. Downfall was also excellent.

Even though I agree with the general statement regarding Hollywood today, remember this movie was from 1981. When nobody, not even Hollywood, had even heard of CGI. Traditional Hollywood movies about war at sea and other special effects extravaganzas were all shot in the traditional way: inside a big watertank with a wind and rainmachine. Anyone remember "Platoon (1986)?" Not your typical Hollywood production (actually shot on a lowish budget but on location in The Philippines in the mid 1980s. And of course a more Hollywood production was "Glory (1999)" which is also a great warmovie like in "Platoon," all those explosions are real (although with less pressure and none of the shrapnel: they used cork instead).
Although they were our enemies and my ancestors fighted with them, but this film and music are the best memories of my childhood. Best submarine war film ever! Greets from Ukraine...

... Welches Boot? 😅 Ja, er meinte es ernst.
I was 8 yrs old back in 1963 when my Cub Scout troop got to visit a restored WW2 submarine in San Diego harbor. It had done its work in the Pacific theater. Amazing machine for sure.

Best Deutsch war movie of the year 1981. One of the Masterpiece Wartime music by Klaus Doldinger back in 80s. 274 dislikes what a shame....

... Welches Boot? 😅 Ja, er meinte es ernst.
Piękny film.Kilka razy już oglądałem.
My favourite soundtrack of all time. Can't wait to hear the music from the Das Boot 2018 series is like.
I was 8 yrs old back in 1963 when my Cub Scout troop got to visit a restored WW2 submarine in San Diego harbor. It had done its work in the Pacific theater. Amazing machine for sure.
