Hey, y'all! X Ultra user 5 years into ownership. There is no preamp more versatile than this. I have used this on everything from reggae to death metal, and it fits every single set I do. It's my Frank's Red Hot. I put it on EVERYTHING! A fun hidden feature is the "blue mode". You likely have to do a firmware update to unlock it, but it's unbelievably useful. You press and hold both buttons and the pedal changes from red to blue. In this mode, you get compression in both clean and distorted modes. This gives the pedal a crazy amount of flexibility and makes it so that your low end is always tight as can be. I put my X Ultra at the very end of my signal chain (I know it's not technically the correct way, but hear me out) to really reel in all of my other effects. I use 2 fuzzes and 2 distortion pedals, to achieve different levels of gain. With the distortion channel turned on, it keeps my fuzz from ripping through the mix, even with it pretty close to everything at max. It also gives clarity to said fuzz, that was made to sound horrendous. No volume jump, no loss in EQ points, just more distortion. That's the most extreme case that I commonly find myself in, but it's a very useful one. My chorus is glassy but still dense, my octave is tight and defined, and all of my distortions are articulate and as rowdy as can be. This pedal is never turned off because of the blue mode. Sorry for the long comment. Just wanted to express my joy for this pedal and the secrets that get overlooked.
I loved to read this since I'm just waiting for my X-Ultra to arrive :) I sold my AOUltra to buy this one because the clean high sound blended with distortion annoyed me so much; But agreed, using the distorted preamp at the end is a great way to compress evenly all the distortions that are going through it; It's like pushing a dirty Marshall; I just wondering how the delay pedal will react before the compressor and multi-band distortion; also, made me curious, what are your other pedals? specially the distortions, because I'm thinking about pushing the X-Ultra with a B3K for total mayhem instead of using a fuzz pedal; thanks for the long comment!
put on headphones, crank all volumes up and listen carefully while the bass notes are ringing... you will hear voices. The magic of radio over pickups :)))
Thumbs up if you would like to see Darkglass have a bass string line and offer sets for multi scale bass and singles .176 and down I would like strings for my mayones 34-37 scale in G alternate tuning. Love your gear, im a user. Why not be a one stop shop we could just buy everything from Darkglass
If you press and hold the bypass button, it will change from red to blue. That will give you compression in clean and distortion channels. If you do that and it doesn't change, just update the firmware. In blue mode, you can play literally any genre.
Love and use few preamps from Darkglass. But I don't trust this guy, he makes commercial for many brands. He "plays everything "Only money 🤣 this is what he, really needs."
Interesting, however I can only riff with no script about stuff I actually use. Couldn't do it If I didn't believe in it. As for "Many brands", I've been playing gigs for literally 35 years to crowds of up to 90,000- so I know what works and what doesn't. I've seen companies come and go in this timeframe- ones that I love. I also don't hop around (remember, we're working with a 3 decade timeline here). I was with Eden for 15 years until they were bought by a large umbrella company. In 2009, TC Electronic started making bass amps, and were based in Denmark, where I would tour often (and my son started living there)- and the fit was amazing. Used the TC stuff until- you guessed it- they were bought by a large umbrella company, effectively dissolving all my relationships. Mesa Boogie is currently right up the street from me and they decided (with my input) that they would start making Class-D heads. Great people up there, and the shit sounds great. I usually use a piece of gear on the road, in and out of hundreds of shows BEFORE I even utter a word about it. So when Darkglass came along, they provided me with the first bass distortion that I actually liked, I fell in love with it (The B3K pedal). It and the Fuzz are permanent fixtures on my 'board for years now. All this without mentioning the mutual fun, respect and support I've received from the people themselves outside of business. And none of this mentions the multitude of other companies gear that I use daily (think basses). So when asked to do some cheezy riffing for friends about the shit I like, I'm in. Oh, and I've never sold a piece of gear thats been provided to me. I def wouldn't be in music, much less be a bassist if I were in it for the $$$. Theres some background for ya!

@@francoishtzl157 Thanks man , i do have some dingwall strings, i usually use Kalium.
Cheers Brother
What is the main differences between this and AO Ultra? Wanna cop one of those but still confused what to choose
Does the low end compression still work when the distortion switch is disengaged?

count again. the eq is 6 band. 7th slider is the master ;-)
You could say that the master is an all pass filter level :P
