FDev really made some silly choices with these stats. The Mamba is supposed to be a modified racing ship. It should be way lighter, faster, and more maneuverable, at the cost of much lower armor. It should be a glass cannon.

I see a lot of complains about FD, but it still seems to be the favorite game of plenty of people, so im guessing they agree that FD have actually made a pretty good game, despite a few bugs here and there and delayed updates. I have been pretty impressed when i found out all the stuff that affects powerplay and BGS... I guess Star Citizen may perhaps be better (dont know enough about it to say anything for sure), and in some ways NMS is better (but i think it is in a totally different category), but other than this, try to find someone on this planet who made a better space game than Elite... If these developers made a game that is perhaps the best in its genre, then i think it is a little weird to complain as much as people do over this game. I think this game is so good that i will GLADLY pay for the updates and support the development of this game..!
Actually, as this ship only have room for class 5 shields, you probably want to fit as many guardian shield boosters as possible - and then you dont have much room for hull reinforcements... So it really is a glass cannon with shields (at least compared to what im used to)... Still a fun PVE ship though - and pretty safe to use in combat as you can just boost away from the enemies to recharge your shields if you have to.
@@ShadowLynx777 It's actually really good with FA off and all overcharged frag cannons. Also, the ability to outrange your opponent in the joust. This is one of those ships where you just can't go with the typical way of fighting. Which imo throws a lot of players off balance.
@@AlphaCompRepair Jousting is annoying to me, I like dogfights. Boosting around them trying to keep them in your crosshairs, reversing to get some hits in then lateral thrusting out of their firing range. Way more exciting than doing 30 u-turns
I prefer the mamba just because the seat is in the center where it should be. That is my single biggest gripe with most ships. The damn pilot seat needs to be center line of the ship.
I had a fully modded FDL before the Mamba even came out, and I have to say, I prefer the FDL. While the seat placement is weird, it took time to get used to, and I preferred the hardpoint placement over the Mamba. I know it's just preference, but when I wing up with my buddies doing bounty hunting, they are all rocking Anacondas or Corvettes, and I usually am outpacing them with kills because of the speed and maneuverability.
Depends on the ship tho. I really like the cockpits of the Cobra3 and Python, regardless of the seat being off center. In an FDL tho? Yeah its pretty horrible.
@@CptMooney Same. Somehow they nailed the proportions in the Cobra and Python (LOVE the Python) but the FDL is terrible terrible terrible. I literally can't get past it which feels dumb. I hate when games make you choose an inferior option because the best is hideous and/or unwieldy.
The Mamba with over engineered thrusters and insane frag cannons is hilariously fun to fly. (The FDL is more maneuverable, the mamba is the ship where your slam that boost button and yell: EEEEYYYAAAAAHHHH!!!!!!)
Yes as a proud owner of a Mamba with 4x Doubleshot frags: you don't dogfight in this thing, you boost at people like a maniac, shoot them 16 times in half a second, then boost out of their range and repeat. Toss on 1A bulkheads so they have to respect your ramming potential (doesn't even cost much speed to do) and it's a great time :)
Me to :) there is nothing beter looking then Mamba nothing sound beter then Mamba and the cockpit is so wooow in Mamba. I sold my FDL and new better life waiting for me now :P
@@Jabol82 I'm a huge mamba fan but I have to disagree there. I remember the first time I boosted I had to check nothing had fallen off my shelves because that's exactly what it sounds like
I know this is an older video and some people in the comments have said similar stuff, but I think it's important when comparing ships to compare the hardpoint placement and the cockpit. Stats aside, either of the two can be a deciding factor for someone choosing a ship.
I agree. I like that this video stuck to the objective stuff, but some of the subjective things can be really important depending on play style. I think it's important for every ED player to remember that ANY ship can be THE ship depending on what you want to get done and how. The game is balanced just well enough that it truly comes down to piloting and experience in my opinion. That stinks if you're into PVP because an Elite PVP player will shred your 'Conda in a an unmodified sidewinder, but it's good if you're into immersion and just want to pick your favorite ships and have fun. The current system permits min/maxing for those crazy types, role playing for those space-y types, and truly harrowing, skill-based progression for the hardcore PVE and PVP types. So comparing ships is a subjective exercise altogether! Which I really like :D
@@burgle66 Off topic but both of those ships can give larger vessels a hard time. I should Know as I nearly got my butt handed to me in my Anaconda from one of those.
Krait MK2 is my favorite ship too - but for PVE, it can get a bit too easy and boring to use that ship (at least fully engineered), and then i think something like the Mamba can be a fun challenge to try instead. At least as long as i just play for fun, and dont try to do any serious undermining or stuff like that...
@DualityJack This. People who ramble about the Krait and combat in the same sentence have obviously never flown a dedicated combat ship. Shes a good ship, but not even remotely in the same ballpark as some of the combat vessels, that pay dearly with jumprange for the extra bang. If all your doing is HazRes shes more than capable enough, but for some of higher end NPC's with engineered ships, she just doesent cut the mustard.
@@CptMooney LOL there is no ship you cant do with the KRAIT MK2 you can do clean out any threat 6 pirate signal from an assassination mission in the MK2... and Mk2 vs Chieftain in PvP = dead Chieftain!
They both are cloth. I personnaly prefer the mamba in pvp. More speed, all weapons on top, better cocpkit. Using it with multicannon, and full faoff. I can boost indefinitly, to compensate the lack of maneuvrability and facing my ennemy at any time. It's easyer to choose the distance to the ennemi and be in my sweat spot 1500m/ 2500m, far from frag or thermic weapons, and a good distance to dodge plasma. but better dps than anyone in long range thermic. Absolutly beautifull.
I'd just add that the cockpit of the FDL, if the shields fail, is very fragile. It will be destroyed very quickly. Life support is a must in those situations. A good life support system impacts the ship's energy usage. While the cockpit of the Mamba isn't super, it is better than that of the FDL and as such can more reliably survive encounters where the shields fail. I think this has to do with the size of the FDL's cockpit canopy and the fact it has a sunroof as well.
I guess I've ducked that by usually doing a nose up when I avoid direct enemy fire. The problem I've had with the mamba is that it's exposed on the sides. So I more often get ganged up on and get a surprise shot into the canopy from the other side.
The base speed also applies to the lateral and vertical thrusters in conjunction with the pitch/yaw, and acceleration rates. The Mamba is not meant to maneuver via pitch like many other ships, instead you have to fly it sideways to get the best use out of it.
@@draddadandawg3363 Yes, Yaw + lateral thrust in the Mamba will allow you to come around on your target much quicker than using pitch + vertical thrust. Another feature to note is that the Mamba has MUCH stronger FA-ON counter thrust than many other ships, thus liberal toggling of FA-OFF will allow you to make much more precise maneuvers that would be possible in the majority of other ships.
Matthew Duffy hmmm the laterals seem better on an FDL compared to a mamba (alternate flight controls), so I must really look at how I’m doing this. The FA on/off toggle trick is certainly true and very useful in rock fights. Thanks for this info cmdr.
I personnaly have both and don't regret ! In fact all is about feeling. My FDL is more versatile and can adapt to more situations, the handling is good but overall I fly it for the space superiority capacity. Not for the feeling. When i fly it it's for efficency but i don' t really "enjoy" the flight. On the other hand the Mamba is more fit for fast hard hitting fights like assassination missions and blitzkrieg action. Some kind of destroy and run. So it is more specific. I fitted it with 3 modified plasma 1 h and 2 L . On the S hard points I put one railgun anti shield cells and one small multicanon with caustic fx for extra hull dmg. But even if more situationnal the flight experience is great for me. This ship feels like a good old sci-fi space fighter from the 80's. It has a unique feeling hard to described ,but between the cockpit, the sounds and the hard points placements it's like a courrier under adrenaline !!! On paper this ship doesn't seem to find its place but once flewn it has this magical grip on you.....
You left out one important point of comparison: Visual design or attractiveness of the ship's looks. Mamba, let's face it, she's sexy, FDL on the other hand is quite the dorky looking ship.
@@DowntoEarthAstronomy You do a good job at that. I was like, "will he talk about the cockpit??" and then I was kind of glad you didn't. Thanks for all the hard work and great videos.

I' m for the mamba all the way. Better looks, bigger punch, top placed hardpoints, central cockpit, better speed, better boost, and no bar in your face. I use gimbaled MCs and on the FDL, with weapons mounted on the sides, half are ineffective most of the time as the hull prevents them from having a clear line of sight to the target. Same issue on FDL with the huge hardpoint at the bottom, its effectiveness is very limited . No such issues with mamba were I can fire all weapons at target all of the time.
I just bought a mamba currently outfitting it now. I know the FDL can outperform it in a lot of aspects but the looks of the ships and view from the cockpit sold me on the Mamba. I mean, if you don’t end up liking it you can swap the internals and sell the ship to buy the other with only a small financial loss.
The Mamba can actually be made into a decent exploration ship with HEAVY engineering and a guardian booster. Im talking like overcharge the D power plant just to add the experimental light weight and things like that. I think I got 30 ly out of mine maybe 37
Just because you can, does it mean you should? ASPX is such a fantastic exploration ship there is no need. I’m outfitting my Mamba to be a boom and zoom type of ship. Basically fly in quickly and unleash, fly away far enough to be out of range. Turn around and do it again.
@@Juno101 well if your taking the scenic route its a great ship. I use it for mining all the time nothing can touch me and i have enough cargo and refinery and limpets use the 2 small for lasers then the 2 medium for a missile and abrasion blaster setup. And still have enough weapons to devastate npcs. On exploration though the conda really is king cause you dont have to sacrifice anything for jump range. Or you can make it really a jumping fool and engineer it that way. Some places cant be gotten to without a high jump range and jumpoinium but thats on the edge
@@tankerwrx I have played the game since it came out and have had the ASPX for years it was my 3rd ship? I went to viper 4 then vulture then aspx. Im tired of flying it i use the orca mostly now or the Krait phantom cause I have more fun in them. Never liked the looks of the ASP although your right it is probably the best medium hands down. But the conda is the best large and i still use my cutter instead cause its pretty. Plus when friends wanna jump in and see where im at its a lot cooler than the asp. Hopefully space legs will branch people away from the ASP.
Actually! because Mamba has all hardpoints on top of the ship and around cockpit, makes it much more accurate on target compared with FDL where all hardpoints are under ship and cockpit at the highest distance from them, harder to put all weapons on target.
Thats not actually true......size 1 on average has around 25% damage of a size 4, and size 2 has 50% of a size 4 and size 3 has 75% of a size 4 Easiest way to quickly compare ships damage potential just give the weapon size the same numerical value ie 1 2 3 4 Eg a FDL has 4 medium and 1 large so that’s 2+2+2+2+4=12, a Mamba has 2 small 2 large and 1 huge so that's 1+1+3+3+4=12 which is the same as the FDL, and just for comparison the Python has 2 medium and 3 large so that’s 2+2+3+3+3=13
Cmdr Snake things get more complicated when you factor in Armour piercing, and your targets Hull hardness. However as a quick comparison it is a good method 👍
It is amazing frontier made a ship just like the Fdl but worse in mostly every way. That being said, I’ve had so much fun flying the mamba, just because it is so much better aesthetically. Yes, I bounty hunt in the mamba because of that ship is pure sexy.
You forgot the most important part of all, the pilot seat placement! the mamba has a center and very clear view pilot seat! the FDL has a terrible off-center with a huge support beam in the way >:C Stats wise the FDL is far superior, but those extra stats come with a heft visual cost.
@Vlodec battle of Britain was won through tactics (and bad choices by Germany) rather than superior fighters..... me109 was ALWAYS the superior dogfighter.
I have both but the annoying cockpit framing in the FDL make the Mamba my first choice, also the Mamba has all the hard points on the top as the huge on the FDL underside generally needs to be fixed, Here's my favourite PVE build so far s.orbis.zone/5532
Wish the Mamba could at least fit enhanced performance thrusters, to compete with the imp. Eagle when it comes to racing. This way tho? No matter how hard i try, i cannot find anything this ship would be the best pick for.
I love the look of Mamba but as a killer ship, FdL is my favorite... The ship shape can tank a lot of damage and armed with MCs can "execute" a hard protected target in seconds... and can tank enough to escape. Mamba, on the other hand, is harder to use in assassination missions...
There is a fundamental difference for specific weapon loadouts. I fly my Mamba "Problem Child" with three Pacifiers. They only come in Class 3 so really few medium ships can fit 3, like the Krait or Python. The FDL is only able to fit one. The Time to Kill PvE of the Mamba is great in able hands and Solo Wing Missions go really fast. PvP some players in their large shield tanks are suprised how fast shields an hull can go with the tight spread high DPS of the Pacifiers. However with a good opponent Pilot it's hard to get the full DPS in. PvE I would prefer the Mamba, PvP a 4 Rail + PA FDL.
What the heck? Why is the mamba so neutered compared to the fdl. They should be extremely comparable but that heat capacity difference is ridiculous especially because the mamba has 2 large?? What?
The Mamba should have had a one size larger set of thrusters. also a Mamba cannot handle a ram anywhere near as good as a FDL. It is an exploitable weakness whether you are using mines or if you fa off line up on them and boost into them pick checking. You will usually drop their Shields if they're running a bi weave and then they will oftentimes take damage on top of that.
@@bitbandita and engine focused power distributor and grade 2D everything core internal that you can. No shields..because not even a turret is going to be able to track you at the speed you'll be going....so it's just unnecessary weight.
I still say the FDL comes out on top purely for the fact of its hardpoint placement and their convergence. As for comparisons I would like to see both Kraits vs Python or a comparison between the Chieftan series of ships.
@@mathewbradley5531 Fixed is generally better on a lot of ships if not most but I've found gimbals to work perfectly fine on it, frankly I mostly run gimbals on it now had you said turreted then I would have wholly agreed with you in the not so much department.
@@HypnoticChronic1 I just love frags, and with gimbals you get a whole lot more leeway when aiming to stay on someone's arse when it comes to turn fights. PVP I would prob swap out frags generally, but yeah.
@@mathewbradley5531 Ah a frag guy, yea my buddy is like you he loves the damn things. Generally speaking I never really used them when we go bounty hunting or PVP we usually split the roles while he goes kinetic I go thermal while running one or two hardpoints of the other in the event we get jumped alone or the other is tied up. So I really can't form a opinion on the frags use in particular due to lack of experience so I'll take yours and his word for it, for the most part tho I really don't find all that much difference between fixed and gimbal aside from a slight ease of use with the latter, but hey to each his own as long as it works.
The Mamba is okay. It makes a decent combat ship if built right. They can both be built to have very similar armour and shields. So stats aren't really an issue. And comparing both ships as stock isn't really a good comparison either, because the Mamba changes quite drastically once it's had some decent engineering. As does practically every ship. So judging a ship based on how it is unengineered isn't indicative of how good it is, or will end up being. However I've found that the weapon choice is more limited on the Mamba than the FDL simply because unless you only fly FA off all the time, you NEED to keep pips in engines simply to make it flyable. Meaning you can't fit high distro charge weaponry. I mean you can... but then you have to do some real finger gymnastics on the pips to keep the thing reasonably manoeuvrable. Fitting a low charge loadout on the Mamba, such as 4 Frags and a Huge Explosive Cannon works surprisingly well. The hardpoints are pretty well placed. The class 4 especially. That's in a far better position than on the FDL. If you can keep 4 pips in Engines most of the time, the Mamba can get around fairly well and with the speed, it can stay close to stuff to make use of the frags. Target a PP and one shot it with the Cannon... it's actually surprisingly decent in combat. The FDL is... well it's the FDL, isn't it. That's all you really need to say. It's a good, versatile combat ship, although it never seems to dance around quite as much as you think it should. But the ships fly quite differently, especially when engineered. And since they share most of the module slots, there's nothing stopping someone using one set of engineered modules, buying both ships, and swapping between them, to get a feel for which they prefer to fly. Flying style plays a big part with these ships, because they're both very different even though on the surface they look very similar.
The mamba is the retro sports car version of the more modern high spec fer de lance is the way I like to think about it, it's not objectively better or more efficient to use the mamba but it makes up for it in style points
For some reason, the Mamba feels much sturdier in a Conflict Zone. I felt like my FDL with the same outfitting crumbled much faster. But I’m LOVING my FDL for Xeno hunting.
I prefer the Mamba. Properly engineered I can PVE without much issue of overheating and decent to good handling to make good use of the Mamba's better weapon placement. In my opinion of course.
Considering an engineered Mamba flies faster backwards than most ships fly forwards, and it can decelerate to 0 much faster, and it can boost into 500mps strafes, there are huge advantages that the mamba doesn't advertise. And it looks about 10k x better.
FDL is like the RAF Spitfire Mamba is like Luftwaffe BF109. In duels the FDL wins in wing engagements the Mamba because it can control when in contact.
Flo 101 yes the BF 109 which flown by the Luftwaffe was indeed a Messerschmitt not a Dornier or Henkel also flown in the same conflict as the BF 109 and spitfire were. Thank you for highlighting the inaccuracy.
Doesn't seem like much of trade off to me the two are really quite comparable base hulls - about as close to each other as a super heavy hull tank vs the lightweight speed build on the same hull. This just gives you that already differentiated starting point to find the best balance for you. I can see the Mamba being much better than the FDL in combat if you fly it the way it wants to be flown (I don't see it being an easy drop into replacement for the FDL experienced combat pilot though as most FDL pilots seem to be all about the turn rates). I know I much prefer the Mamba's flight model (speed is good). Its the imperial clipper with weapons! Not many ships can hope to outrun a Mamba which for me makes it a winner, if you can get into and out of combat radius effectively you are much harder to kill, and can scream in to harass/finish off targets at the best moments. One on one just controlling the combat ranges won't easily win you a fight, but run regen focused shields and hop in and out you can have greater effective shields than somebody with more base shields. And its not like it turns like a brick, the Mamba is still pretty damn agile.
The FDL is just better, I hate when people try to excuse the horrible balancing between these two ships. that little bit of speed doesn't do much in a combat scenario but pitching almost twice as fast dramatically does. not to mention that the fdl can actually use fixed weapond where the mamba can't, so it has more dps, more time on target..... and is cheaper. The ONLY reason to use the mamba is because it looks way better, and thats really sad. The mamba needs to be much faster to justify all of the downsides it has compared to her cheaper and better sister.
This review missed out the cockpit comparison. This is an important omission because both cockpits are like marmite - you either love them or hate them, and for different reasons. They both have different experiences in VR and using a monitor.
I haven't flown my Mamba in maybe 6 months. The FDL I miss if I don't fly it regularly. I just hate how sluggish the Mamba feels maneuvering, and the crazy heat issues are still there so you really can't fit it out with fun weapons like PA's and rails and have any kind of useful build. Admittedly my FDL has had more engineering love than the Mamba, but they aren't that far apart.
A lot of people talk about how the PVE stuff is too easy and not fun. Although i think it is a bit exaggerated (depends a lot on what system you are in), i still agree that most of the PVE battles are so easy it starts to remind me of a boring grind - IF you insist on using the best ship, with the best engineered weapons, and plenty of guardian shield boosters and engineering on the shields... I use a Krait MK2 when i want to get serious about undermining, but as it is a bit easy and repetitive, i still think it is fun with a challenge, like flying the Mamba with relatively low shields, and only fixed weapons (i suck at fixed weapons, but this ship doesnt allow me to shoot big gimballed lasers for very long before i overheat and/or run out of power, so then its either fixed weapons or weapons that use ammo, and i dont like those trips to the station to refill ammo). I generally prefer playing in solo, as this means that i am completely free to do whatever i want, whenever i want, and as much as i want - and im even thinking of getting a Cobra MK3 and/or Imperial Eagle or something to make it more interesting :P
Got the Imperial Eagle, and like it so much that i bought another one that i built for exploration. I am now using it on my way to Colonia, to get that G5 Dirty Drives. "Just" 870 jumps or so, LOL! At least i get twice the amount of exploration data that i would get in my Asp Explorer (which has double the jumprange)... Also, it is WAY more fun to use for flying through the canyons and stuff :)
@@jdangel98 why weapons focussed? Can you not fire all of them at once with charge enhanced? Cause if you look deeper at the stats the weapons focused gives you a higher capacity for your opening volley but the recharge rate is slower.... Charge enhanced is always the way to go unless you literally dont have enough juice to fire all the PAs at once.
Mamba clearly wins for me. Its basically the same ship with the better looks and the centered seat. Cant get used to the off center seat in the FDL its too annoying since you will all the time when you play. The speed of the mamba is insane which makes it also perfect for combat, maneuverability is top notch and the slightly better FDL DOESNT make it feel a tiny bit different. Get the mamba and the FDL and check it for yourself
I cannot for the life of me endure non center line seats. I am sorry. But for this reason alone, despite the statistical superiority of the FDL, whenever I do an "FDL build" I slap it onto the mamba instead. Same reason I cannot be bothered with the python despite it's amazing value for everything it can excel at. Call me a noob. A pleb. An inefficient idiot for grade 5ing the statistically inferior ship. But at the end of the day. I enjoy flying the mamba. I do not enjoy the FDL. @@Jabol82 I'm a huge mamba fan but I have to disagree there. I remember the first time I boosted I had to check nothing had fallen off my shelves because that's exactly what it sounds like
@@CalfOnTheRun I am partial to the sound of the Phantom accelerating & boosting. Hehehe
In a matchup between the FDL and Mamba, I'll pick the Krait MkII. :)
Muh man! Triple doubleshot Pacifiers and a pair of long range superpen railguns. Prepare for the Shreddening.
Silly fanboy lol
It would be so cool if they had race events/missions in the game.
Canyon races would be awesome
At least mamba's cockpit isn't off-center.
The Mamba is not meant to maneuver via pitch like many other ships, instead you have to fly it sideways to get the best use out of it.
could you elaborate? are oyou using YAW to turn?
Mamba with silver texture and that reflection is such a beauty
Huge hardpoint on the top is a game changer for dogfight with gimballed weapon.
unless you pull negative g's and just pitch down instead of up
@CMDR Decaf Size 4 PA or go home....shame we don't have a size 4 rail gun..
I couldn't choose between them, so i have 4 of each

Good video.
I own one of each, and love the cockpit and design of the Mamba... BUT the Fer-de-lance is more well rounded and efficient in combat.
Just into considering my next level combat ship, so many thanks for this DTEA. Love your attention to detail as always. My go to source for professional YT content on elite, along with cmdr ex for quickies. He got an award, you deserve one too.
Very good analysis; I was tempted to switch over to a Mamba from my FdL until you mentioned the difference in shields and heat capacity.
The only reason why I cant handle FDL is the cockpit...It bugs me so much. Mamba all the way for looks too.
I currently Explore my Way to SagA * then Colonia...
in a Corvette.
Easy rule of thumb for hard points. 2 of a lower class hard point equal to 1 of the class above. So the Mamba has a Medium hard point damage advantage
Thats not actually true......size 1 on average has around 25% damage of a size 4, and size 2 has 50% of a size 4 and size 3 has 75% of a size 4
Easiest way to quickly compare ships damage potential just give the weapon size the same numerical value ie 1 2 3 4
Eg a FDL has 4 medium and 1 large so that’s 2+2+2+2+4=12, a Mamba has 2 small 2 large and 1 huge so that's 1+1+3+3+4=12 which is the same as the FDL, and just for comparison the Python has 2 medium and 3 large so that’s 2+2+3+3+3=13
Cmdr Snake things get more complicated when you factor in Armour piercing, and your targets Hull hardness. However as a quick comparison it is a good method 👍
Curious how you rate the heat capacity. Is it listed somewhere in the game??
It is amazing frontier made a ship just like the Fdl but worse in mostly every way. That being said, I’ve had so much fun flying the mamba, just because it is so much better aesthetically. Yes, I bounty hunt in the mamba because of that ship is pure sexy.
I prefer FDL stats but Mamba is so much better looking.
Just wanted to say I appreciate your videos and content! Very helpful; thank you!
Corvette and sidewinder comparison 😂
You forgot the most important part of all, the pilot seat placement! the mamba has a center and very clear view pilot seat! the FDL has a terrible off-center with a huge support beam in the way >:C Stats wise the FDL is far superior, but those extra stats come with a heft visual cost.
The weapons on the mamba are all on the top also, meaning gimbal weapons can actually be used with moderate success.
Not far superior, just slightly superior in manoeuvrability, shields and thermal capacity.
Anaconda vs Sidewinder :)

Corvette vs Cutter
I have both but the annoying cockpit framing in the FDL make the Mamba my first choice, also the Mamba has all the hard points on the top as the huge on the FDL underside generally needs to be fixed,
Here's my favourite PVE build so far s.orbis.zone/5532
Compare the DBS to the DBX for small ship combat.
What the heck? Why is the mamba so neutered compared to the fdl. They should be extremely comparable but that heat capacity difference is ridiculous especially because the mamba has 2 large?? What?
Mamba I've had mine for 2yrs an still love it an don't plan on ever getting rid of it was my frist love an still is
The Mamba should have had a one size larger set of thrusters. also a Mamba cannot handle a ram anywhere near as good as a FDL. It is an exploitable weakness whether you are using mines or if you fa off line up on them and boost into them pick checking. You will usually drop their Shields if they're running a bi weave and then they will oftentimes take damage on top of that.
Python vs Krait II, Anaconda vs Corvette
FDL might be a better ship, but ill never give up my MLC(midlife crisis)
MLC + SDP (small dick problem) - The solution: a Mamba with dirty drive thrusters tuning + drag drive experimental effect :)
Certainly better for fixed weapons, not so much gimbals.
Great video, always thorough
Dirty Ferdy for me.. I have brought down titans with my current FDL build lol
Lunamaria can I see what your build is? I’m back to the game after years out and have no clue what to build on my fdl/mamba lol
For some reason, the Mamba feels much sturdier in a Conflict Zone. I felt like my FDL with the same outfitting crumbled much faster.
But I’m LOVING my FDL for Xeno hunting.
love your videos very educational ,.. earned my sub
I prefer the Mamba. Properly engineered I can PVE without much issue of overheating and decent to good handling to make good use of the Mamba's better weapon placement. In my opinion of course.
Shame , since actually wanted the mamba over the fdl , because it seemed like nobody else had one . But I see why now
FDL all the way, as it’s my go to ship for when I’m bounty hunting 😁
Thanks for making this decision easy for me. Now I only need ~120M to outfit it.
Considering an engineered Mamba flies faster backwards than most ships fly forwards, and it can decelerate to 0 much faster, and it can boost into 500mps strafes, there are huge advantages that the mamba doesn't advertise. And it looks about 10k x better.

Just came back to watch this video again wish I could like it a second time, so I’ll comment instead, I know it’s a year old but great info.
Too many trade offs for very little advantage...
i love how it looks and i hate off center seats so the Mamba wins for me, for all the wrong reasons.
I can't imagine running 3 plasma accelerators on a mamba with that heat capacity, but it's 100% viable on an FDL.
It'd fairly viable with g5 efficient on mamba. I tried it and it was alright. You need weapon focused pd though.
I have a Mamba outfitted for hunting Barges, with 3 PA's. You need G4/G5 Efficient, but it works.
Uhh both?
Since the Mamba is a racer, it should have less mass overall, but also less armor.
Mamba. Why? Centered flight seat.
i always enjoy your videos :)
Compare all the gunships and drop ships as they look similar pls
Alfa Romeo is much better than those two.
I chose the Fer de Lance so I could name it the Fluer De Merde. Eventually I'll get a Mamba as well and name it something like Ford Mustang.
What about the two vipers if you haven’t done them? Or maybe the kraits?
I cannot for the life of me endure non center line seats.
I am sorry.
But for this reason alone, despite the statistical superiority of the FDL, whenever I do an "FDL build" I slap it onto the mamba instead.
Same reason I cannot be bothered with the python despite it's amazing value for everything it can excel at.

Hay DTAA, respects to you for your work and thanx for being so involved with the ED community. I would like to ask you about your colonia series of content. Would you consider a roleplay saga once a week or month? Kinda like OA dose with his "news and updates"" but that series is negative not because of OA's presentation but because of FDev's slow progress and unavailability to their comunity regarding a real time schedule of developmet. Just getting disappointment EVERY TIME I check in. But I think if we stray from the physical problems the game has and start a faction and build a story of our own in the ED universe I feel you would get allot more positive views and ED would get some positive attention that the game realy deserves. People are playing ED wrong and expecting the game to provide srory.. but its a sandbox universe with background lore to help you get into the game. I think people lack the understanding of the opportunity in front of them with ED and other youtubers are not intrested in creating a story or making story baced content for the comunity to see and follow, and if they lucky can join from discord. This way of content creation dose not have a limit, and does not rely on FDev for "new content" to exploar.
