    There are only a handful of events in Omaha where the streets are packed with people, and the College World Series is certainly one of them. Omaha is a city built around the automobile and with limited public transportation there aren't many opportunities for street photography. I set out in late June of 2023 to see what the crowds were like late in the day at Omaha's Charles Schwab Field.
    To be honest, going into the outing I was not expecting much. A few drunk partiers, everyone wearing similar clothing to support their favorite team, families with children who only care about relief from the heat or another ice cream cone.
    I always force myself to just snap a few pics early on because it helps me to get into the flow, to find a rhythm, to turn off my brain and start really listening to what the universe might reveal.
    And much to my surprise, I was able to photograph two scenes that were my favorite moments of any photography outing I've participated in this year. One moment involved a man seated on a bench with a woman at his knees trying to help him. He was a little drunk, sure, but he was upset about something and the woman was genuinely trying to help him. I photographed the scene that was unfolding, and it reminded me that this is why you go out. It's not to photograph an interesting person from behind because you're too scared to photograph them from the front. It's not about the victory being that you simply took the picture from a few feet away and got it all in focus.
    The victory is seeing something real that's happening, something profound (especially profound for the person experiencing it), and then capturing it with ones and zeroes or on film.
    But the most powerful scene was one that involved a young boy.
    His father was speaking to some ticket sellers and must the father must have said something to the boy that hurt his feelings. I watched the boy march away and sit behind an electrical box - his instinct was to put a physical barrier between himself and the source of his pain - his father. In the second photograph the father turns to look for the boy, but he can't see him because he's obstructed by the electrical box on the ground. Using the zoom lens on the G11, I was able to get a closer shot of the boy - clearly upset - hiding behind the electrical box.
    Making photographs of moments like these is why I pick up the camera.

    There's something special about the G11. I'm still trying to put my finger on it, but that hybrid point & shoot / rangefinder feel is really special. I love that there's a dedicated dial for exposure compensation, and the best thing has to be that it's a CCD sensor that shoots RAW. I wish mine didn't have so many dead pixels ☹

      Have you found a way to fix the dead pixel problem? I have a G11 as well with quite a few dead pixels

      @@diegovalle3869 Someone told me in the comments that they aren’t dead pixels but dirt/dust on the sensor. No easy way to clean it if that’s the case…

    You're really creating something here with the video/stills/music/ambient noise combo. Crazy how when it all comes together it makes you feel something. And at the very least, it's a great tourism piece for the city of Omaha. 😊 It's really well done, brother.

      Thanks, brother. I think if you can get the right music combined with the right pacing the whole thing can really work when the images are strong. Appreciate you watching and always being so supportive ❤🤘

    Your videos make me forget how ridiculous this country has become for about 10 minutes or so. Like maybe America isn't down for the count just yet. It's a good feeling.

      I copy the photos to my Mac and then add them to the Photos app. With my iCloud plan all of my photos then sync across all of my devices, and I can edit the photos on my iPad using the RNI Films app.

    • @somephotovideos
      @somephotovideos  11 месяцев назад +2

      I use the RNI Films app on my iPad Pro. The app is free but you need to pay to unlock certain film stock emulations. I typically use their Kodak Portra 400 emulation with the strength greatly reduced, and then I adjust all the normal things - brightness, contrast, shadows, highlights, saturation, vignette, etc. The adjustments are subtle on most of my photos because the image off of these old CCD sensor digicams is so special - I want to try to preserve that as much as possible.
