I don’t get criticising this movie for not being stylised enough or there not being enough tension. It’s a true story, it’s about a humble, understated man doing something amazing. Reflecting what he did in an understated way felt apt. It doesn’t need to be overly dramatised or stylised to tell the story well

That's the problem with younger generations. They are too used to "marvel movies" and CGI, and more and more distant from movies based on real tragedy stories.

Nicky Winton did not want the spotlight. He was a simple English gentleman. Its fully representative of the men of that generation. Also us Brits are less in your face than Hollywood

Perhaps the point of the little action in the film was that they felt the truth needs no embellishment which may be strange to a generation that is fed on unbelievable action with super hero's .

I’m a Brit and wouldn’t describe my take as pro-Hollywood at the moment, but I did agree with what the critics said almost 100%. The story was pretty straightforward and largely a tale about an administrative exercise that whilst very admirable was undramatic and with no major obstacles until it got stopped completely after the invasion. So the potential for adventure/tension/dilemma/subterfuge, etc(all the things that are interesting to see play out) were lacking. As an act of humanity the real life character’s actions quietly stand out, but probably what we would’ve called a TV movie in the 70s.

Watched this at TIFF and cried my eyes out, just because I thought of those NIicholas Winton saved and didn't save. Saw the survivor and her family which put things into perspective as like Schindler's List, just saving one life spreads through generations. I do have to agree, however, it was a paint by numbers film. I did like Anthony Hopkins, Helena Bonham Carter and Johnny Flynn though.

I know Art is subjective but I seriously don’t understand yawls interpretation of this movie. I love this movie for what it is! No it’s not full of action but it’s rated PG for crying out loud. It’s a historical drama it’s not an action movie, so yeah, it might be a little slow, but it’s a drama

I really wish this could've been something bigger. I didn't expect it to be the next Schindler's List, but considering Nicholas Winton was called the British Schindler, I was hoping we could've gotten something at least better than what we got.
It was really sweet that the premiere at TIFF had Kindertransport survivors and their family members in the audience though, and that they repeated the "standing up" moment. Wish I had been there for that

    • @fellowirishartists

Some children got to live while everyone else died a horrible death, and everyone got to hear about it on TV.
Do you want them to make up things, I don't understand what you're getting at?
There is nothing to add to this that wasn't historical facts!
Is Batman Vs Superman really needed in every movie?
Or can real heroes be shown without a cape or superpowers that is what most of them are with never seeking anything back in return!
This film makes some very big points that most movies miss out on today.
      What is a real hero?

    • @devdanferguson7616
      @devdanferguson7616 11 месяцев назад

@@fellowirishartists What the hell are you talking about? The historical facts of the Kindertransport are as moving as those about the Schindlerjuden. It's not a question of the story, but of the quality of the storytelling used to tell us about it (which is evidently poor).
Also what the hell are you talking about "some children," its 669 innocent children saved from being murdered. Every life saved is worthwhile. A "real hero" is someone who saves 669 goddamn children from being murdered in a genocide

Maybe you don’t know about what your saying and should research on a subject matter before you right strong comments about it.
There was nothing more to add.
There was very little to make a full feature movie on this to begin with.
That is something I could agree with you on!
I think the director was brave!
This was not a easy subject to create a full movie feature.
It has some very upsetting issues with there still being some people alive today who where helped by this man.
Here is a documentary if your wishing to learn and not just speak without anything behind your words.

It really just seems like you're trying to downplay the importance of Jewish lives being saved which is not a great look

Are you guys Oscar Experts simply because you claim to be cos this review is terrible? You've totally missed the point of the movie. If we're going to talk about the dark colour palette I'm not surprised it's dark during the flashback scenes given the circumstances they find themselves in. As for the plot it's about ordinary, unassuming people doing extraordinary things. It appears it went totally over your heads.

What the guy did was commendable at the highest level, but it’s hard to make a film exciting about what was effectively an administration exercise that was working ok and then got shut down. It’s worth remembering but maybe suited to a half hour documentary.

Just review fiction or Action and stay away from anything that has to do with historical facts boys.
I seen your reviews on other films and history is not a subject I would trust you with and real life is not Marval and life can be boring when one is working hard on a mission that is how it is and anything else would be anything else but the truth.
The 1940’s was very brown, black, Gray, food shortages, death, trauma, dark, in the UK, in Europe, during a second world war.
People where hungry, sad, angry, depressed, and everything was brown and dirty.
I don’t know what you expect from a story teller who has created works of high accuracy with looking forward to the January 1 release in Ireland.
Just stay away from the historical genre, history was not your favourite subject in school.
I got this from your review on the fabulous film on the life of RJO with it being an amazing film by Nolan and I ended up going to see it 3 times.
Films do have a message, some you need to see only once.
History is for those who wish to learn from the past and life is work and working is boring to someone else who is not the person doing it.
This is real life boys, what where you going to see.

One can just not like a film genre, making the same kind of criticisms every time that is not positive in any way or going to state anything beyond that history was not your favorite subject in school.
To be totally honest with you, I really don’t care, mate.
Happy New Year, cover films that you have real passions for, and just stop all this pointless bloody barking.
