you cutting yourself off mid sentence is killing me cause when I tell you I end up thinking I missed something or that the vid paused for some reason 😂😭
I think you’re favorite books to read are actually contemporary/general fiction and not so much literary. It’s more often in literary fic where things get “avant-garde” and “woo-woo”
This video had me in suspense. When I tell you I literally jumped up from my seat and cheered when Kenya said she finally found a 5 star read 😅 There's really just something so satisfying about reading a book that hits all the right points in the right way. Also... Happy birthday month Kenya!!!
this is the first time I've read almost all the books you talk about in a video! piglet: I think this was my personal favorite of the bunch. the countdown adds this sense of urgency that made me not wanna put the book down. it was messy in a way I really enjoyed. good material: this one was my biggest disappointment since I read Alderton's memoir and it became an instant favorite. I had the exact same thoughts about a mediocre book with a fantastic ending at the pov switch, I just came to terms with the fact that I rly don't give a damn about what straight cis men are thinking or feeling, especially in regards to women who no longer want to be with them :/ all fours: I didn't know what to feel about this book until the very end, but ultimately decided I didn't like it much. I think the character arcs felt unsatisfying at best and confusing at worst. There were interesting conversations being had, I particularly enjoyed the discussion around fertility and women feeling like their value declines as they age, but I found that message surrounded by too much slop to leave a lasting impact.
Happy Birthday month! Don't we all love a top tier read! You read waaaaaaay more than I do, so I'm really no one to suggest anything. Also, you and I don't have similar taste in books. Yet, I persist. If you haven't read them already, might I suggest Nightcrawling by Leila Mottley, Drowning by TJ Newman, Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno Garcia, and Behind Her Lives by Briana Cole.
I knew Bama losing to UT was gonna have you heated! Two of the most unlikely schools in TN really took them boys down. I just know Nick Saban is somewhere sick and second guessing retirement 😂
Don’t even worry about picking up the other Dolly Alderton book. I had the same issues with Ghosts than you with Good Material. Had nothing new to say on a topic that had been done and spoken about to death (online dating), and the characters where no more than 2D empty vessels with no personality or charm. Seems like her books are just bland and have no backbone
Since Piglet is a lit fic, and I also haven’t read it but I feel like the fact that the writer doesn’t give the audience what exactly the betrayal is, she may just be letting that be up to the reader to decide. Maybe it not laziness but m thinking maybe since we all have our different perspectives on what a betrayal is, in order to get everyone to relate more to the character she allows us all to fit in what that betrayal. Or possibly just not wanting to focus on the betrayal itself because it’s in-material to the story she is trying to paint. Imagine being so hurt by someone you trusted which causes you to spiral. It’s an interesting read from what I’m hearing. I may look into it to see if I’m interested. Thx!

Have you ever tried out Beverly Jenkins? She writes amazing black historical romance. The ones I’ve read have all consistently been 5 star reads.
Your hair looks amazing! 😍
Happy Birthday month!

Omg! I liked ‘In My Dreams I Hold a Knife’ and I did not like ‘It Girl’ 😭
Have you read Only Twice I've wished for Heaven by Dawn Turner Trice? Happy Birthday!
