to make money on turo, you must have body shop work/ basic mechanic experience then buy 2010 model cars for $2500 private sale negotiate down to $2200, rent out for $30 a day.
This is what I'm doing. This is the only way it would make sense. It's starting to pick up. But the miles go up quick. I've been selling cars my whole life. Once they hit a 120 K you can expect major depreciation. You buy a car for 3 you should be able to sell it for 3 k a year. You're going to have to do the maintenance and everything yourself or you're going to be in a losing position. In my area I got to rent them Dirt Cheap around 15 per day just to get a booking. It adds up don't get me wrong but if you can't pay cash and do the work yourself find another income-producing asset.
Own a body shop, buy smashed up supercars. Rob said it best, it's good as long as this one nightmare experience comes along that wipes out the positives of years and leaves you stranded.
If you’re leasing a vehicle and way under on miles, Turo can help recoup some of your costs. Case in point. The 2015 Z06 I rented in Houston. Owner was 20k under miles on his lease. Charged $250/day and rented it out until his lease was up.
I think a great way to use turo is to simply rent it every month only until youve paid for your lease/loan payment. Limits wear and tear and totally pays for the car. Best benefit to turo as a renter (customer) is that you can rent manual transmission cars. none of the major rental chains offer that.
This is one of the best reviews I've seen. New subscriber. I have a 3rd car that I contemplated putting on turo. They said it'd be $565/. Now add insurance, mileage, risk, maintenance and personal time to drop off the car, keep your reviews up and have a stranger drive your car! How much $ could you possibly make? & when you go to sell it you have to disclose that it was used as a rental. Ppl who use this service as a host are the same ppl that keep Payday loans in business.
Who is they? 565 for what? You can make a couple hundred to maybe 1500 depending on car. Why would you disclose that it was a rental car. Turo is not a rental car company.
Agreed, huge conflict of interest. He made some good points, but neglected to advertise the positives because his business is threatened by this. The funny part is most people probably haven't heard of Turo, like myself, but this video is only making the app more public.
The vehicle owner is basically funding the largest investment of a rental company and Turo are taking a cut with next to no investment. Its almost like a Ponzi scheme
Seeing as across the board, coast to coast exotic rental companies tend to charge basically the same rates, that has to be the effective rates needed to make a decent profit and stay in business etc etc. Also unless there are some Uber millionaire drivers running around out there I don't know about, most drivers seem to complain they don't make much money or enough money. If you have an AMG and a customer blows the engine up, I'm guessing Turo isn't going to buy you another $30,000 plus engine and Mercedes probably won't either. I recall a video awhile back with Mischa(Boosted Boris) and his boss Robert that owns Apex at the Nurburgring talking about expenses and I think he said his cost per lap to run the McLaren 675LT was something insane like $300 or so.
NoThisIsPratickStar So Turo have a clever App. Some Insurance. And some office staff in a rented office space with in all likelihood rented furniture. The vehicle owners buy, insure, clean, maintain the vehicle. They pay interest on any loans used to buy the vehicle. They have to get it to the renter and get it back afterwards. But Turo works because naive people don't realise that they are being exploited. Guess what the biggest up front cost is in the Car Rental Business? I shall give you a clue. It isn't the rented office space or the people you pay hourly answer the phone.
You need to create an llc if you are planning on making money on turo. Between mileage, auto expenses(note, fuel, insurance, registration etc) and depreciation you will have possibly zero taxable income.
Rob is actually talking about something he actually knows about! Will wonders ever cease? In the SF Bay, there’s a lot of turo rentals, so pricing is competitive, good for renters not so great for rentees. The high end cars still get decent money, but the rest are pretty cheap.
amazing for the people renting the cars, can rent some nice cars for dirt cheap but at the end of the day the guy renting the car probably isn't making squat once its all said and done
Alex Robinett even when you don’t, it’s still great, just check all those extra insurance boxes. Learn how to (anything) on someone else’s tab whenever possible.
not really. let's do some math here. there are expensive mercedes that cost upward of 50k being rent out for $100 a day. let say you somehow rent that car for 15 days. that's only an extra $1500 a month at the risk of your expensive Mercedes. a car worth 20k pfft your only making an extra several hundred a month at most at the risk of your car. a rental car is the fastest car.
Turo is awesome, especially if your the one renting the car. I rented a 2010 GT500 for $220 a day for a week and it was amazing. Not only would that rental have cost me triple to quadruple at a retail rental place I had a much better experience.
About the maintenance expensive or repair costs.. this is why one should use the repair insurance called: get shield Which this insurance covers repair costs of a car while regular insurance covers accident repairs
I was recently thinking about doing this as a business but I would only do it mainly with average cars like jeep wranglers and convertibles and large SUVs because that’s what rents out down here in South Florida. High mileage super clean late-model cars would definitely be a money maker guaranteed.
Rob I know the world's best plaintiff PI and PD attorney. He was in jail 11 times, now an attorney and graduated top 0.01% of his class. He is only 30 years old, yet he is a millionaire. He got so wealthy because he knows how to play the system and makes all his clients happy. If you are ever in any accident or ever need any representation this guy will represent you like nobody else. He's pure energy and has no compassion for anyone but his client. Highly recommend. holla if you need the law firm's name (in just a recent case he had a case which nobody wanted to take due to huge disputed liability but in the end, after 3 years, he got the client a $300,000 settlement)
I'm surprised we haven't heard of people using Turo as a way to get cheap parts, i.e., I need new break pads or rotors for my SUV so I find and identical one on Turo, rent it for a day or 2 at $40/day, swap out the parts, return it. Unless the person renting it out does a complete inspection upon return, it's unlikely to be caught.
I they thing he forgot to mention was no you aren’t getting free money so you still have to work while renting your car. The money the car is making means that it’s less that you have to spend.
@@geocyo8835 haha lol. I just noticed the butchering of the sentence. He probably typed it out on a phone and it autocorrect turo with turn. My phone did the same thing i just corrected it.
Create a LLC for car rentals and get commercial renters insurance, takes care of those issues. Turo, geataround or hyrecar are just the platforms that make people aware of your business that way, they get a cut for the marketing and facilitating the transaction the rest is just a legitimate business
How to make money on turo? Buy totaled cars from auctions and get them rebuilt titles. Also keep in mind cheaper cars love to be rented out by drug dealers and other similar uses, also turos insurance does not work flawlessly like they make it seem, it takes time and doesn't always pay out.
I think you could rent Prius's and do ok . used ones. they never break and it not like you can damage anything in them. Hard to turn off traction control . Transmission is bulletproof. No clutches. or converters. electric reverse as well. Between time spent cleaning. depreciation and maintenance. idk if its worth 30 a day. LOL
This video is so concise. For the average Joe, add more B-rolls in your conversation as some will loose interest. I listened to every detail though, very thorough stuff in here. Thanks
He is not saying under no circumstances should you ever rent your car; he is simply saying there are pitfalls (legal ones) in doing so which could expose you to extreme liability if not done carefully.
Rob what about for people who are just looking to make some extra cash on weekends? I'm actually looking at getting rid of my 2013 Optima SXL in a few months and would like to put some cash aside to trade it in.
Renting turo is only good when the car is paid off... I did the math. It’s close to 25/30% profit at the end of the day. That’s after Turos cut, maintenance, depreciation, insurance, etc. If I still owed money for the cars. The profit would be zero or actually in the hole. The thing is you don’t see if right off the bat. You’ll see it during tax time and you see all the expenses you have.
. There is no way to keep the owner of the vehicle out of a court room if he lends his vehicle through this app to someone and there is a bodily injury claim or a property damage claim.
Agreed, There’s a lady here on RUclips that does videos on Turo and here experiences I’ve looked at her fleet (10 cars) and her pricing is not profitable at all even if you consider that she may be getting good prices on cars she still only has like 600 or so trips in the past year or so shes been doing it. Her cars range from around $150 - $23 so averaging for about $80 after Turo’s Fees shes maybe made $36,000 but she had to buy 10 vehicles, vehicles that lost a decent amount of their initial value. More so if Turo reports to the on a carfax that the car was used as a rental.
That's a pretty bad way to judge how much she is making. The trip counter isn't enough. It doesn't list how many days or weeks the car was rented during that 1 trip. I doubt most people only rented for 1 day. Most people who rent a car do so on vacay and rent for multiple days at a time. You cant just average everything up and make a gross understatement. You have to take into cost of monthly payment, maintenance, and depreciation if you plan to sell it after a few years. Compared to revenue from turo. I doubt she's killing it but I also doubt she's making peanuts. She obviously makes enough to live well in LA area which has a very high cost of living. Living well in the LA area means pulling 6 figures for your household income.
Great points! 👍🏻 I see people buying new Chevy Corvettes on installments and putting them on Turo without counting all the factors that go into a rental business! You quickly realize that all you are doing is working for the car factory or car dealer paying the car that you will never fully own not really thinking about the RISK involved on this ciber share economy! Not as cut and dry as you will think! Same as Like driving for Uber! Do you really have the energy to drive six hours per-day everyday only to make 120usd per day to then find out your car has depreciated, you need new tires, and the cost of gas is up! And after a couple months you have no energy left to keep driving! Not so easy eh? What Turo is creating is competition btw the car owners and like you say the cheapest owner gets to rent more often but not necessary makes more! Rather LOOSES MORE!
there's no way in hell I'm letting strangers drive my car. crazies be flying over bumps & ramps, overloading it with passengers & hauling heavy equipment to break your suspension. how about crazies hitting the redline while they use the wrong gear or do triple digits with your car? are you crazy? this business model will never work
you know they will have sex in your car too? I mean if you rented a nice car with your gf for the weekend, what the hell would you do with that car? lol
Rob owns a rental car company. Of course he wants to knock turo down. If turo does well then there are more people listing and renting cars there and not from him.
Ed B already told us that turo is to you as Uber/lyft is to a taxi cab company which is why you don’t want people putting their stuff on there. That being said your statements were quite sound, but that’s your real motive for steering people clear of renting on turo 😉
+alphazoom II, yep, there's no way Turo is handling the insurance, at least not all of the liability. If you look at the VinWiki video the other day with the guy that crashed the rental company Lambo, he had to fight with his insurance company to cover the cost of the Lambo and they still wouldn't cover his medical bills. I suspect you really find out how much coverage you have when your drunk customer slams into a family of 4 and kills the parents and kids.
Exactly. Turo sounds like it may be a tiny niche app but it's not going to be the end of a typical boring Avis rental company just based on that they won't take care of the worse case scenario or even medium case scenarios. If you drive someone's Porsche or something even half-way decent and you roast the clutch do you really think Turo is going to cover that repair bill?
Hey Rob (or anyone else, I guess), my parents (mid to late 50s) lease new cars every 3 years or so (39 month I think), and my mom's enamored with her white/red z4. Sadly they don't make them anymore, and so I was looking for similar hardtops for her, with the slc/sl and the f-type being about the only cars out there new. Funny enough though, the 488 spider eventually came up and I jokingly showed it to her. She chastised me for teasing her with such a nice car, but it got me to wondering. I have a fairly decent understanding of my parent's financial situation, so could they actually afford something like that, new? Kind of curious what you think one would have to have in the bank or earn a year to buy a car like that, given that, well, you bought a brand new 488 (a coupe iirc) a while back. Obviously I'm not asking for Rob, or anyone's, actual financials, just as I wouldn't offer my parents, but I am curious as to what people would say.
The only way I'd do it would be if I had a fleet of Prius's or some other lame-ass econo cars. People usually don't rent those to go street racing or do parking lot doughnuts.. All would take is one idiot to kill himself (or someone else) in your sports car, and the rest of your life may be ruined as well.
The yes and no of your plan is when renting econo boxes your competition level goes to the max ( along with your profit margin ) , And you are dealing with lower income people, Sorry but most poor people are scum bags, that's a major reason why there poor and have no respect for some "rich guys" property. Higher value cars , better class of people higher profit margins, Its a odds game, responsible people act responsibly. Of course the losses and expenses are higher but the risk is lower
There's a lady on youtube with a channel called 'Saimahs Experience' and she has around 20 cars she rents out on Turo. She makes videos about her experiences and most of them seem to be bad, from Turo being unhelpful to crazy renters. For the money, it seems like a waste of time. Also, I noticed she kind of holds back her feeling about Turo because if she gets kicked off of there she has nowhere else to go with her twenty plus cars.
It blows my mind that some people are buying fleets of cars for the sole purpose of renting them out on Turo and lying to their personal insurance companies about them being for personal use and enjoyment.
I agree, running a end game around your insurance company is no way to run a legitimate business. And by not going over Turos paperwork with your own insurance company , you could be leaving your self open to a pretty big financial hit, and in some states criminal charges.
Until something serious happens and you actually have to file a serious claim. Insurance companies don't play around when it comes to investigating the circumstances around serious claims. Or until your insurance company simply figures it out before a claim is even made and drops you for lying. It just isn't the right way to do things. There may be short term gains to be had but the people who blindly chase the short term gains are usually the people who wind up broke or in prison.
you mean the 1 million dollar liability insurance that covers you on turo? I have over 300 trips on turo and 9 cars thats nonsense. There have been fatal accidents on Turo that havent come close to the million dollar policy that they have and its covered all those accidents. They also have a legal team that will support you I have had 3 cars totaled on the app and they paid me each time 10-30% more than I paid for the car.
I'm talking about personal insurance, not Turo insurance. That's an entirely different beast in itself. If you read my first comment, I made that pretty clear.
Yes. But you will need commercial insurance for sure. You'll make more but it might take you aix months just to cover your insurance, which is now on a vehicle NOT for personal use.
Turo is the worst company to do business on as a Host. They will jerk you left and right for every reason to not pay you when you're at no fault. In fact they will charge you for false "mislead information given". I have been a Host for a few years now and they have screwed me at least 5 out of 5 times when trying to go through their claim process. You're better off staying away from this company and finding another gig. I can say this with experience.
The one thing I like about turo will probably be a downfall. I've watched internet companies come and go over the past 20 years. I don't like how they control the Leads. Long-term another company will probably replace them. The only benefit is autopilot. They take care of all the details. But you make less Revenue. And I can tell you if I were to have three or four cars out front doing it myself with my state Licensing I would get fined. They solve that problem.
I think if someones making 100-300 dollars a day for renting out there car. there not worried about a 60 dollar oil change or 200 dollar brake change after they rented there car out for 6 months lol. need new tires? great you've made 10 grand in six months from turn, 800$ in tires is nothing. I guess there another way of thinking about it lol

1 trip is usually minimum 2 days....
turo cant report that my car was a rental
600 trips can translate to 1200-3000 days. So multiply 36k by a factor of 2-5x. She’s making a minimum of 72K - 180K
Do you put any of your cars on turo? Just for the extra exposure?
Spreading the truth and getting rid of the competition at the same time
*** one FELL swoop.
i know. i caught that, too.
Imagine that a risk in starting a rental business.
there's no way in hell I'm letting strangers drive my car. crazies be flying over bumps & ramps, overloading it with passengers & hauling heavy equipment to break your suspension. how about crazies hitting the redline while they use the wrong gear or do triple digits with your car? are you crazy? this business model will never work
you know they will have sex in your car too? I mean if you rented a nice car with your gf for the weekend, what the hell would you do with that car? lol
Most people trynna make money off a Nissan Altima off Turo not a BMW I8 lol
If Jimbo wants to be taken seriously as a camera guy, he needs to use a tripod.
What would be an ideal car to buy to rent on Turo? Let's say if we could buy something cash a little used☺
Nothing in life is easy. Working someone for 30 years is not easy 🤷🏾♀️
Rob knows about that illegal subletting
Turo claims to provide liability insurance for its users...
I think that's BS. Your insurance is the brunt of it. One guy trashed this dudes Porsche and Turo had nothing to do with the insurance.
Sure, but there's going to be a max amount they cover, and then it's on you.
alphazoom II depends on what level you have with them. Turo allows you to decline their insurance for a bigger cut of the rental
But where’s his turo signup code? Haha, just a joke.
All good points but I feel like this guy wants to eliminate any future competition. Thumbs down.
Mr. Spaghetti shows us how to save money while not burning your meatballs
Maybe it's me but the spaghetti jokes are loosing their Zing
Rob you''re "the middle man" and Turo just cut you out the game..Damn
Why would anyone get commercial insurance if Turo is responsible?
Good video. Do you suggest commercial insurance then?
No one will insure you on if you rent on Turo. You can only use Turo insurance and normal personal insurance.
This guy reminds me of the actor Steve Buscemi
I'm pretty sure Buscemi is a better actor. ...
It is Ideal if your flipping cars, or if your behind on payment it can be a last ditch too get some $ out of your AudI Or BMW
Um so I searched 'Rob Spaghetti' and guess what channel came up?
turo charges over twice as much as enterprise for the same car, will never use
Sounds like rob is trying to down play a service that is going after his business
I like how the people in the background didn't want to on the video.
zabnat prob thought a cheesy porn was about to go down lol
That rob really knows his shit.
VinWiki made the same video about a week ago...but yes.
Who's doing turo out the goodness of their heart. Every single person is doing it for profit.
Some people would consider what you said rude but I would agree.
Rental company’s are getting a little edgy
There's a lady on youtube with a channel called 'Saimahs Experience' and she has around 20 cars she rents out on Turo. She makes videos about her experiences and most of them seem to be bad, from Turo being unhelpful to crazy renters. For the money, it seems like a waste of time. Also, I noticed she kind of holds back her feeling about Turo because if she gets kicked off of there she has nowhere else to go with her twenty plus cars.
@Frozen Car Guy - her videos are interesting even though most are of negative experiences. Viewers like REAL depictions not glorified fluff pieces.
VinWiki already made a video on this topic, just saying. You late and you burned the sauce.
Aparna Barua it's a nice video for people like me who doesn't know who VinWiki is.
CheezyGeez do you know VinWiki now?
Exactly the info I was looking. Thanks
Man I see alot of hate towards this guy but I also see 777k subs 🤷♂️
Anyone have a Dodge Demon their listing on Turo, I haven't been to the race track in a while...err, I mean I want to cruise up the highway in one.
Today, Mr. Spaghetti tells us how sharing our pasta recipe with others can actually help make a delicious dish
That’s why you shouldn’t rent out your personal car. I would only do it strictly for the money. It’s a car...it’s not my heart.
Rob, can you please tell me where you got that blazer? I really like it.
Either the Dollar Blazer Club, or using the "Blazo" app, which is like Turo but for blazers.
Sunglasses whole video... Credibility 0
Agreed.
He don’t want over-saturation in “his” main market. Nervously
Ya hv to be nuts renting a nice car on turo. I do however use them as a rental.
So how do you do it right then??
Thanks for the info bro!
Fear-mongering. Turo provides insurance, which includes lawyers to defend you.
yup
Ok. Now.. What do I need to know to make $ on Turo? Your video doesn't say. It only gives the negatives.
It blows my mind that some people are buying fleets of cars for the sole purpose of renting them out on Turo and lying to their personal insurance companies about them being for personal use and enjoyment.
I agree, running a end game around your insurance company is no way to run a legitimate business. And by not going over Turos paperwork with your own insurance company , you could be leaving your self open to a pretty big financial hit, and in some states criminal charges.
and they are making thousands like me
Until something serious happens and you actually have to file a serious claim.
I'm early in the video still, what about having the car in an LLC?
He is not lying about anything, but he seems very biased towards Turo. I think he is threatened and angry about the ease of it.
Why don’t you put one of your cars on Turo and get back to us 6 months later with real facts and analytics. Just saying..
Where did you get your jacket? 😂😂
Tell that old gen guy where you leaving the tracker. Don't destroy it
I think if someones making 100-300 dollars a day for renting out there car. there not worried about a 60 dollar oil change or 200 dollar brake change after they rented there car out for 6 months lol. need new tires? great you've made 10 grand in six months from turn, 800$ in tires is nothing.
I guess there another way of thinking about it lol
Brakes are not 200 in that calibre of car
