I was also 20 yrs old in 1989...graduated in 1988 from Satsuma High School in Satsuma Alabama...about 20 miles north of Mobile Alabama. I remember watching this IROC Race with my dad. We still had Earnhardt, Elliot, the LaBonte's, Waltrip, Petty, Wallace, the Allison's, Bonnett, the Bodine's, Strickland, & Tim Richmand before he died. Much love from Mobile Alabama.
The 80s were terrible. Chevettes and Station wagons everywhere that could beat the Corvette in a race as it was only putting out 190 hp. God awful hair metal. But it was all worth it since it seen I got to see the last time my Hoosiers and Fighting Irish win a championship side.

Why would the opening promo have all the drivers wrecking! Lol! And messing up?!? Not really what you want to advertise in an all star caliber race. I dig the angle though
who the fuck thought that was a good idea? like... here is this guy who is really great!!! look at how he wrecks his fuckin car into tiny pieces!! you bet your ass you are gonna see only the finest drivers here!!!!

I remember when my friend’s older brother bought a new ‘88 Camaro RS baby blue with the grey side skirts etc Going for a ride in it was like being in a race car. I know it was just a Camaro RS with the V8 but it sat low and really handled the corners. Meanwhile I had a ‘84 Monte Carlo SS which was super nice but banked like the millennium falcon around hard turns.
I miss this series especially the ole 80 s camaro s nascar guys usually kicked ass on the speedway s but even still was fantastic racing an the sound of those cars was wicked
Gotta love how Awesome Bill Elliot was doing IROC in the 1980s and in the 2020s he occasionally appears in SRX, it's spiritual successor. What an all-timer!
The best cars for IROC. I never get tired of watching the "Working Man's Hero" working at DAYTONA. Little Al was no slouch in a stockcar. He was a true racer.
@@chadhenderson9732 And 197 in the pre-modern era. Don't care how good his cars were, to win 200 races has merit to it. Probably not the best of all time, but he was undeniably talented.

Not sure why that strikes my funnybone but yeah they did just that May as well done the intro and shown headstones. Wreck, then the cyrptkeeper nodding away
They need to bring back iroc my favorite driver was Tony Stewart the srx only goes to shortracks which are awesome but I would like to see the road courses and Daytona with a good package like the wickerbill used in the early 2000s
Funny the new SRX series starts and is compared to IROC all the sudden RUclips recommendation wakes up and decides to show us IROC racing a little late to jump on the ball there don't you think recommendations sir
I really love Paul Page. But back in the day there many just lucky drivers........................ he kept saying it was pretty safe !!! Sadly, not true.
I use to winder that myself but someone once said to keep people who aren't racefans interested in watching. You'd think they would show clips of them winning & hoisting trophy's hence the reason they were invited to IROC...
Mike C. I grew up a big Rusty Wallace fan. Rusty could win driving anything, as shown here. Couldn’t stand Dale Earnhardt. Karma finally caught up to Dale. Rusty was still racing when Dale was pushing up daisies.
"Big deal, if I win, I win, if I lose, I lose but I'm going to have a good time doing whatever I do. " Words to live by folks.

lol i was like wtf is this lol

captured your attention lol
Intro is awesome isn't it
In 1989 I was 20yrs old, so I'm pretty sure I would have watched this live. Good times, and the 80's was one kick ass decade.

When it was good it was really good.
@@TheCaddypilot1 it was always good lol
Well there's one starting up just like it with Tony stewart and Ray evernham or however u spell it
It's still around. It's essentially what the Cup series has evolved into as far as equal cars.
Me too me too...
I always loved the IROC races. Getting to see drivers from different racing disciplines on one track. Thank you for putting this for us all to watch
We did infield and pit passes all weekend, and met Mears and Kenny Bernstein.
How many crashes do they need to qualify?

They were definitely bad ass looking but didn't go as fast they looked
Man, I missed so much being born in '97 I didnt think I could be so excited watching just a few Camaros running around Daytona!
Not knowing how many laps remaining was driving me crazy.
I miss IROC so much. I wish it would come back.

They should bring back the IROC cars.
Sam Posey and Jack Arute are lucky AJ didn't punch them in face
Right?.. That just seemed kind of bizzare. I mean where did that even come from?
Man those engines sounded good back then
I loved watching the IROC race. Of course im not objective BUT Dale sr and Richard are me picks to win
I know scheduling conflicts made this tough BUT if they coulda got at least 1 active Formula 1 driver, that woulda been great...
Vine Wood Mario andretti won the 6th iroc championship
Moreno, Cheever or Mansell would've been my picks.
Those 305s sound fierce! 😆

Both races are good adverts for oval racing. 👍

Thanks for uploading this

Quite the ringing endorsement with the video montage for Scott Pruett at 2:21.
the whole intro was so weird lol

These Camaros were the coolest IROC cars!
What I would give to go back 35 years to 1989.
Those cars sound so good!
I like how they show them wrecking when introducing them
Not sure why that strikes my funnybone but yeah they did just that

I love how at the beginning, when they introduce all "champions" they almost exclusivly show them crashing....
What a series. I love spec racing.
Damn, those questions really hit hard.
The "Gen 3" Camaro as a super speedway IROC Stock Car was Gorgeos. So were the Daytonas.🏁
The best sound ever known to man, the ole small block Chevy.
No spotters though. Hard to believe they are racing inches apart with no spotters.
Talking about how great drivers are
Only shows clips of the drivers crashing
ABCs version (then), of giving TV fans (then), what they wanted to see...Wrecks in any series.
Did you know big E drove a 7 car?
i thought AJ Foyt last win was in 1981, in pocono? witch means it was 8 years
great intro.... talk about the best, show almost everyone crashing .... :)

I wish AJ would have asked Sam why he wasn’t driving anymore? Love how he threw out that he was a two time IROC champion.

2:22 is two of the dirtiest trans am moves I've seen in a while. Dirty racing for sure.
Thats funny!! Youre right!
I think during the intros the only one they didn’t really do dirty was dale lol
could labonte won that was there a way not to get passed that one last time?
Dale Earnhardt R.I.P
I think Unser Jr would have taken a championship or two from Earnhardt if he raced NASCAR full time.
Yep Unser Jr was a Great Driver
they should do this with current f1 drivers or current drivers of todays generation
I wish iracing can produce these camaro's and have iroc races 🏁
This is the kinda racing worth paying 1000 a ticket
Thirdgens FTW.
"let's select videos to present the drivers:

I hate how they glamorize the crashing.
I wished nascar was still good like it was then.😢
It kinda lost touch with the original idea.. when it became a domestic competition on oval tracks, with nascar drivers in what is basically nascars

Why was this called international when only americans participated ?
