This looks like the real deal Texas Sheet cake served in every Dallas public school I attended in the 70s. Keeping this recipe! Oh, I forgot, I agree with everyone else about the pecans. It was always pecans not walnuts, but I'd eat it both ways.
Hi KimQueenie! This is a denser cake, so it's similar to a cake-like brownie :) Enjoy!
My sister in-law introduced my family to this back in early 80s and it taste like no other. Chocolate heaven!
What delicious substitutions! Thanks for your feedback.
There are wayyyy too many complaints about the sugar in this recipe. IT'S A CAKE!!!!! Find a good BREAD recipe if this bothers you. Geez!
Angel Babee lol. U say it Angel
This is the second time I’ve made this at the request of my family. I only had about a quarter of a cup of sour cream so I substituted another quarter cup of cream cheese...it tuned out great! This is going to be a recipe on rotation in our house! Thank you again!
You are so welcome and thank you for your feedback. Your combination of chocolate, nuts and cranberries sounds delicious!
A friend of mine always made this cake for church parties and she use pecans and it was so yummy. Thanks for the recipe.
This is the one cake that's been requested over & over. Im baking one for Sunday, yup, per request. 💘
Thanks for your question, Angela! If your spray has flour in it, you don't have to do an additional dusting of flour. Happy baking!
Looks delish. I'm going to make it exactly the way you did. Looks just like the Texas cake Mrs. Larkin used to make when I was a kid. Thanks. Super easy, too.
Absolutely the best!
Excellent instructions. I love this cake 👍
I just made this. VERY DELICIOUS!
Thanks DoreenElise...I was thinking about doing that...and hoping if I did that it would work...will have to try it.
i made this cake this arvo, omg... so delicious, yet so easy to make! I did chocolate ganache with mix of nuts and cranberries instead of the walnut frosting, was reallly awesome! Thanx for the superb recipe!
How good it looks. I love the walnuts in the frosting. This cake always tastes really great.
I think it’s okay to leave out a little powdered sugar from the frosting to leave it a little runny -it spreads easier. I think it sets up okay after 15-30 minutes.
That’s what I seem to remember. I’ll try it very soon.

Oh my God, The easiest cake to make and soooo good!
I've made this amazing cake twice, now. Everyone loves it! It's very rich, so cut it with some vanilla ice cream. (😁) The only changes I made were : 1) I used condensed milk for the frosting and 2) I added 2 more tablespoons of sour cream than it called for. This cake is crack for chocolate lovers! Great recipe.
Thanks for the tips! Can’t wait to try this. 🙌
If you're concerned about calories, you wouldn't be eating cake in the first place.
Oh really? That's interesting! Thanks for the tip!
Ooohh look yummy! : )
Sugar helps keeps the cake moist. More sugar, more moisture :)
Pecans, please!
Wow...looks so good. Wish I could just make half ot it...to much for only 2 of us.
Yummy
Buttermilk in both the cake and icing with pecans is the authentic recipe for Texas Sheet Cake! It’s ok to use whatever suites your taste, but if you don’t use those ingredients, you are missing out on the uniqueness of the taste.
I made this to day very good moist easy to make way better then the box cake I only used 2 1/2 to 3 cups powdered sugar it will be runny until it sets but it is sweet a small piece will do
Chloe Esfand punctuation, punctuation, punctuation 😁
What pan brand do you use?
Can you make this in two 13 x 9" pans?
I wonder? can I use buttermilk in my frosting instead of milk?
Cooking Mama I think it’s actually better with buttermilk
Walnuts?! Texas sheet cake properly contains PECANS.

Thank you! I was about to write a letter..
Can you use chocolate cake mix for a Texas sheet cake?
Judging from the ingredients, Texans must be huge people! Or just very lucky :)
is the cake more like a brownie?
Ym ym
I use pecans in my Texas Sheet Cake. Pecans are way more prevalent here in Texas!
Wow this looks amazing! Definitely have to try this!

What oven u use?
Thanks for your question, Reynan Miyake. We used a regular electric oven to bake this cake. It was set at 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius). Here's a link to the recipe so you make read details: allrecipes.com/recipe/texas-sheet-cake-v/detail.aspx
If you use a dark colored pan you need to reduce the oven temperature to 325°.
That shit looks delicious.
One of the best ever texas sheet cake recipe i have ever tried. I really like this sheet cake recipe. Thanks for sharing this recipe with all of us. Also check out my special texas sheet cake recipe as well. Check out the recipe here: www.recipespack.com/texas-sheet-cake-recipe-simplyrecipes-com/
divide all the ingredients by half to make a smaller batch! I do it all the time
I use buttermilk not cream cheese ...... :)
Is this paula deans recipe? :-P
Loved the cake but the 4 cups of sugar for the frosting made it too thick - more like fudge. Will try just 3 cups the next time although I did learn how to make fudge as an aside.
It's supposed to be a fudge like frosting
No vanilla in cake....OK...slightly different...but many variations out there.
I made this and didn't like te icing. The cake taste better without it.
The icing was too sweet, so I made dark and white chocolate ganache and marbled it on top and sprinkled chopped pistachio. so pretty.
Not all cakes requires cups of sugar...
2 cups of sugar?! Oh my.
I can't imagine an icing with 4 cups of sugar! anything that sweet must taste gross.
Maybe a little whipping cream?
