Thanks for this video! I work in enforcing safety regulations and it breaks my heart to write up a guy because his new boots are falling apart after a couple of months on the job. So many laborers are young guys, guys out of rehab or prison, low wage earners, immigrants, non-union, etc that just can't afford American made boots. Plus none of these guys have medical benefits if they get sore feet and knees from cheap boots. Only a handful of workers get $200 every two or three years towards the purchase of a new boot. That's reality in America and not much better up in Canada. The only guys wearing the horse hide $1000 work boots are the execs that come down to the shop floor from their carpeted offices for the Christmas speech and want to show they wear work boots too. The steel toe version of these boots are still twice the price of the Walmart boots but I think are still attainable for a minimum wage laborer and something I can recommend to them instead of just reprimanding them.

So true. Many people can't afford high priced footwear. Washing dishes at Panda Express is not enough to buy Shell Cordovan Alden and Viberg. I wear this style of boot from Sears DieHard. My cobbler cuts off most of the crappy sole. Then sands it down to the crappy midsole. That allows him to glue on a new wedge sole.

Hanging drywall and carrying around a toolbelt and pouches with the tools adds another 15 pounds I guess. so far so good. We will see after about a month. So will I have a still usable boot at Christmas or will they be ready for the trash can.

I have had a pair of the Golden Fox Boondockers for about 6 years. I wear them on average one day a week. For the price, they were definitely a good value. They don't have the foam collar and lining like these, just bare leather, with the cotton lining in the vamp. They still look good, and while I usually just wear them around town, I have gone for short hikes in them and worked in them a little. They are super comfortable and judging by how they are wearing, I still have half their life left.

I have worked around and with plenty of people who view a $100 boot as aspirational, been there a time or too myself, so the fact that someine knowledgeable is bothering to put out information on lower end boots is huge. A lot of people who comment on here act like if you buy cheap you are stupid and seem to forget that many are poor, down on their luck or just starting out. Thanks for putting out the information so that people who have more of a choice can make a more informed choice.

Great video as always. I've been wearing the rockrooster boots now for several months, and I like the insole. I'm 220 lb and I've had no issues with it. Maybe offering to isn't for everyone, but it really does help with my plantar fasciitis. I log and do dirt work, and had bought these as a cheap boot with a more comfortable sole for operating. I do think they could offer a wider toe box but other than that I'm satisfied with it.

I personally think the Rockrooster Norwood
boots are better made than supposedly USA made boots that are partially outfitted with overseas materials or labor, and cost 2 1/2 times as much if not three times as much for a boot that is on par quality-wise!
The Rock rooster boots are not cheap they are just less expensive than bougie name brands.
I hope everybody finds Rockrooster boots and I hope that their patronage turns it into a great company that will make even better boots in the future based on customer feedback and revenue.
I'm going to tell all my friends about them, a lot of us work in construction in need a good boot for a inexpensive price.
    Rockrooster is quality and value!

I’m a maintenance worker at a nursing home/skilled nursing facility and spend roughly 50ish hours a week on my feet on hard floors. Before discovering your channel I wasted money on two separate pairs of junk boots from Walmart and Amazon that didn’t last 4 months each, I decided to try a pair of Diehard moc toe boots. Been using them for the past year and a half give or take and they are actually holding up just fine. The coolmax in the rockrooster is a branded product developed by dupont (and much like with vibram, if they claimed to use it and they didn't I'd expect them to be sued). While I sort of also doubt that its properties will have any useful value here, I would expect it to last longer than the non-name liner in the Golden Fox.

Im half way through and i still prefer the goldenfox as for 1....it cheaper. 2...i dont care about resoleing them as even if they only last you 2 winters/years before you buy a new pair....its still saves you money over $250 boots that need a $100 fix every 2 years.
Now if you need boots for hard work, then these might not last long enough to be cheaper than the $250 ones. But for people who just want a casual winter boot that is decently made and looks good. I think both of these are a good choice. But me, the cheaper goldenfox look more casual. If the rockrooster made a not so tall version, i might consider paying the extra $35.

Maybe the fox is a better casual boot for looks but the rooster is obviously better for work.

I think reviews like this are invaluable. People buy these because they need decent boots. If they’re looking for knockoffs they’ll buy counterfeit.

Same. I'm out for the Golden Fox just from the crumbling foam under the (unnnecessary) liner. No excuse for that in a brand new boot.

Not a fan of the foam in the tongue of the golden fox. I hate to buy Chinese and I hate Amazon, but I do always keep a spare boot in the truck, cause it has happened before... so the RR might not be bad for that, tho i do wish it was a hot cork filled, i mean how much would that really rais the price? But as said you probably wont feel it, I just worry about the pieces going over each other cause an annoying high spot. The other part is being caught with Chinese boots on a union jobsite, with the money we make, Thorogoods are the most common but I've been wearing them for 10 years now so about the length of my career, so I may try something new eventually. Once I get a place to work as a home company and not worry about a lay off I'll buy a PNW boot. I mean if a take $300 from my check for 2 weeks i could get a pair and still have $1,000 a week to work with. I am tired of the politics tho...
If you read all this, I'm proud of you.

Why can’t I find any moc toe style in steel toe, it’s not really a “work” boot without steel toe?

    • @neonnoodle1169
      @neonnoodle1169 11 месяцев назад +1

Sure it's a work boot without steel toe...most people don't need steel toe. But check out Thorogood and Carolina...they both make steel toe moc toe.

I've worked in Red Wings for the last five years, but recently got some Rockrooster Norwoods with the steel toe through work (free boots). They're probably the most comfortable boots I've ever worn straight out of the box. Zero break in period.
That being said, they've been shelved after two months. The QC is awful. Both boots had weird glue threads on them that discolored the leather a little, not the end of the world for a work boot. The tongues are sewn in a way that they don't stay in place. They shift almost immediately to the side, exposing your foot. Huge safety issue. The left and right boots were different colors. Just slightly off, but again, they're work boots and it didn't bother me that much. The steel toes also showed through the leather, much worse on the right boot. Not a deal breaker, but a little disappointing.
The two main things, however, are that the right boot rubs on my pinky toe ever so slightly. Not bad enough to blister, but enough to make me hate wearing them after about six hours or so. It's also developed an extremely loud squeak in the sole every time I move. Between the annoying toe rub and the squeak, I can't keep wearing them. They're also starting to show some signs of wear after just two months. I'm not 100% sure they'll make it the whole year.
Next year, I'm paying the difference and getting some Thorogoods.

I wear the non-moc toe Skechers Burgin-Tarlac work boot for working around the house. Project Farm was impressed with this $40 boot.
