I agree about Moonchild. Everyone , even at the time it was released, knew it was just hippy, dippy trippy filler. Though in retrospect, it would make a nice four minute tune. Just condense the last eight minute soundscape to 20 seconds and it's perfect. Oddly enough, as blasphemous as it may sound, and not to question it's greatness, but...the "I Get Up , I Get Down, section of Close To The Edge could use a bit of an edit. One less chorus and maybe 30 seconds of the washy atmospheric stuff. And the organ solo at the end didn't need to be repeated twice. But...that's me and my 2024 sensibilities.

My top 20 would be fairly different, but sticking with the top 20 albums from Prog Archives I'd go with: 1) Red 2) Larks Tongues in Aspic 3) Foxtrot 4) Animals 5) Close to the Edge 6) Mirage 7) Fragile 8) Dark Side of the Moon 9) Moonmadness 10) Moving Pictures 11) Hemispheres 12) In the Court of the Crimson King 13) Relayer 14) Wish You Were Here 15) Selling England by the Pound 16) Nursery Cryme 17) Thick as a Brick 18) Per Un Amico 19) Godbluff 20) Pawn Hearts
I am lazy Scot. So what I'll do is cut and paste the comment I made on Andy's show onto this one. I feel it's fairly apropos. The 20 that Progarchives has up there are pretty well what we proggers butter our bread with. Zero surprises there. So without further ado this is what I posted on Andy's show: "I love your list Andy. But when it comes to lists especially ones that purport to be the GOAT people really get their panties in a bunch. There is just no way that you are going to please everyone. But does it really matter? Of course not. We love what we love. Do we like it when people nod their heads up in and down and go on about how wonderful it all is? Of course we do. It just makes us feel all fuzzy and warm inside. It’s comforting to know that we are not the only ones that feel the way we do about certain albums. How boring it is to be affirmed. Oh well. Just keep on loving what you love and be happy with that." I've mentioned this kinda stuff before but it is truly how I feel. I don't really care what comes first or last on anyone's particular list. I'm interested in everybody's list. Why? Because, like me they love music! So there you have it. Anyways, off to see BEAT tonight. Looking forward to it. I saw the original 80s KC twice back in the day and looking forward to hearing them once again. Can't wait to hear how Steve will interpret Rob's parts. Should be interesting for sure.
I always felt that Providence should have been on Starless And Bible Black and The Great Deceiver and Lament should have been on Red. Both albums would be more even. Great video though!
@@thecandlemaker1329 At least the improv on SABB is interesting. I just don't get Providence at all. OK, we'll leave SABB as it is, ditch Providence completely and find something better to replace it with on Red!
Andy Edwards' video made some excellent points on this and agree with both that The Lamb should be very high up the list. Looking at the beanie.. GG a shame these prog icons don't feature on most ' Best ' lists. Always fantastic to see VDGG mentioned. Still Life.. just about takes their top position for me , although agree Godbluff is slightly superior to Pawn Hearts but I'm splitting hairs. Love every release. And no Topographic Oceans !!! Surely that's not right. Is there a double album allergy going on or something. Anyway , interesting watch once again Scot. 😍🎵🎵🤘
Mine would look something like this: 1. Selling England by the Pound 2. Close to the Edge 3. Thick as a Brick 4. Per Un Amico 5. Foxtrot 6. In the Court of the Crimson King 7. Fragile 8. Lark's Tongues in Aspic 9. Pawnhearts 10. Moonmadness 11. Godbluff 12. Red 13. Relayer 14. Nursery Chryme 15. Dark Side of the Moon 16. Mirage 17. Hemispheres 18. Wish You Were Here 19. Animals 20. Moving Pictures Definitely less of a fan of PF and Rush than the other bands represented here.
My Personal Ranking: (with scores out of 10) 1) Dark Side of the Moon 11/10 2) Wish You Were Here 11/10 3) Animals 11/10 4) In the Court of the Crimson King 11/10 5) Thick As A Brick 11/10 6) Fragile 11/10 7) Selling England by the Pound 10/10 8) Close to the Edge 10/10 9) Relayer 10/10 10) Moving Pictures 9.5/10 11) Nursery Cryme 9.5/10 12) Lark's Tongues in Aspic 9/10 13) Foxtrot 9/10 14) Red 8/10 15) Mirage 8/10 16) Pawn Hearts 7.5/10 17) Hemispheres 7/10 All Good albums. I haven't heard the other three yet but I probably will soon
Saluti
"You know in some ways Scot, you and I are very different people". Love the idea and the list but mine looks a liiiiitle different: 20. Animals 19. Wish You Were Here (I find these albums, especially Animals, just so boring...) 18. Moonmadness (Good, not my favourite Camel) 17. Per un Amico 16. Fragile (the band songs are among the best Yes ever did. The solo tracks are almost all wastes of time...) 15. Mirage 14. Pawn Hearts 13. Nursery Cryme 12. Moving Pictures 11. Relayer 10. Court of the Crimson King (agreed, the bookends are two of the best songs in prog but the middle sags) 9. Dark Side of the Moon 8. Selling England by the POund (Cinema Show is maybe my favourite song of all time, but Battle of Epping Forest sucks) 7. Red 6. Hemispheres (my personal fav. is Permanent Waves) 5. Godbluff (I'd personally take Still Life over Godbluff, but Godbluff is a close 2nd) 4. Foxtrot 3. Close to the Edge 2. Larks' Tongues in Aspic 1. Thick as a Brick
Interesting!!!! But I LOVE Epping Forest. Are you one of those “Gabriel sings too many words on The Battle Of Epping Forest” type of people??? Because he doesn’t. And it’s probably my favorite track on SEBTP. Or More Fool Me!!! jk
@@TheProgCorner I just find that there's just not enough interesting going, musically or lyrically, to hold my attention or justify it being the longest song on the album. It's fun the first time but them I'm just like "okay guys lets get on with it". I think the band revisited the concept with the similar and much better "Robbery, Assault and Battery" on TOTT. If Epping Forest was 6-7 minutes long instead of almost 13, it'd be a solid tune.
I laughed when you made fun of saying the short tracks on Fragile take away from it, couldn’t agree with you more! Albums should be rated by overall quality, not if every single track is seamlessly perfect from start to finish… those interludes are short for a reason. One or two minutes of palette cleanser then back to the meaty stuff!
Am I correct that Relayer has gained way more acclaim over the last few decades? I always loved it but I remember it being considered a weaker 70's Yes album.
Progarchives hates ELP? In fact rather small discography + high level of rivalry from other bands. This said their debut is a masterpiece. And Trilogy too. I'll take them over Rush, Camel and those Italians any day.
@TheProgCorner Tarkus has side B. I don't hate it but I could live without Jeremy Bender or Are you ready Eddie. Brain salad has Benny the bouncer. About progarchives top 100... I think too little Jethro Tull there. Songs from the wood and Heavy Horses should be in. Gentle Giant? I prefer them live. My favourite album by them is Playing the Fool.
You know, there's nothing wrong with the original Progarchives top 20. It's probably an accurate ranking of the older prog fans preferences taking into account the number of people who own or at least have heard the various records - that's the reason why there's only one Italian record - far fewer have heard the original RPI 'classics'. My own top 20 would include at least ten of the twenty but the other ten would be reasonably obscure or lesser known records. For me (and a few others) Pawn Hearts is number 1. What would be interesting is a top 20 from fans under 40.
Fantastic episode, progachives needs a lot of corrections overall, I've personally stopped following the page years ago. As for the fourth album I vote for my favorite album from 71, Pawn Hearts. Cheers my friend and prog on.
I would remove Pawn Hearts, Relayer, Per Un Amico & both Rush. I would replace with the 1st ELP, The Yes Album, Focus Hamburger Concerto, Genesis Trick of The Tail & Jethro Tull Aqualung. I love the Rush albums, but they are not part of the 1st wave of prog so I would rank further down the list. Just opinion, fun to make lists!
@@TheProgCorner Yes They do, they should be in the top 20 IMO, It is crazy Trick & ELP so far down the list. But it's just a list lol. Love Progarhives, best site for prog.
In general, I think your “fix” is much closer to my opinion. My only “fix” to yours would be to move Moving Pictures up and Animals down. But that’s minor.
The prog archives has a good list but I would personally have a very hard time making a list myself. There’s way too much good music and it kind of depends on what I’m listening to at a specific time.
Well now, what a strange list. Question: how is it possible to compile a '20 Great Prog Groups' and exclude ELP? Where, for that matter, are Gentle Giant? I don't particularly care, of course, because these lists are all largely subjective but the exclusion of ELP is frankly bizarre. What does Scott of Myth Of Logic have to say about it, I wonder? By the way, I remember clearly where I was the first time I heard Fragile and Close To The Edge - in my little room in east London in 2002 on a Friday afternoon - with these 2 CDs I'd bought from HMV in Oxford Street purely because UJ (who was then our flute player and main man in UNIT) urged me to do so. I sat there aghast! I could not believe what I heard. I found myself unable and unwilling to listen to anything else for the next 3 days. So, I thought to myself...that's what all the fuss is about! Next week I purchased ALL the other Yes albums from 1969 to 1978.
My reranking: Close to the Edge Selling England By The Pound In the Court of the Crimson King The Dark Side of the Moon Foxtrot Red Relayer Hemispheres Mirage Nursery Cryme Thick as a Brick Fragile Larks' Tongues in Aspic Wish You Were Here Animals Moonmadness Per Un Amico Pawn Hearts Godbluff Moving Pictures
Thick as a brick. Wonder how much was Ian really "sort of making fun of Prog" and how much was in some way just part of his nature, his iconoclastic tendencies to conceive things that way? ...APP was the follow up after all.
Andy Edwards, haa! if that's his real name? This list and the order of rankings, as well as all others, are all wrong . EVERYBODY knows my neighbours all listen to the best music...MINE ! 😉 RUSH #1.
Prog Archives is a horrible site. It looks terrible and they don’t allow albums by the same band to have different genres. Rate Your Music is so much better.

My top 20 would be fairly different, but sticking with the top 20 albums from Prog Archives I'd go with:
1) Red
2) Larks Tongues in Aspic
3) Foxtrot
4) Animals
5) Close to the Edge
6) Mirage
7) Fragile
8) Dark Side of the Moon
9) Moonmadness
10) Moving Pictures
11) Hemispheres
12) In the Court of the Crimson King
13) Relayer
14) Wish You Were Here
15) Selling England by the Pound
16) Nursery Cryme
17) Thick as a Brick
18) Per Un Amico
19) Godbluff
20) Pawn Hearts
Fantastic!!!!!!
Can’t believe Prog Archives doesn’t have a single Gentle Giant album in the top 20!
Craziness!!! And no ELP either. Boo!
I am lazy Scot. So what I'll do is cut and paste the comment I made on Andy's show onto this one. I feel it's fairly apropos. The 20 that Progarchives has up there are pretty well what we proggers butter our bread with. Zero surprises there. So without further ado this is what I posted on Andy's show:
"I love your list Andy. Oh well. Just keep on loving what you love and be happy with that."
I've mentioned this kinda stuff before but it is truly how I feel.
The videos on RUclips are stunning. Have fun!!!!!
Has to be Nursery Cryme... with a well known Bognor restaurant owner !!! Or I'll be very very very upset. 😍🎵🎵🤘
Harold The Barrel should be joining us so - yeah it’s Nursery Cryme!!!! The Dutch nightmare hasn’t been on the program for a while so I’m excited.
@TheProgCorner AWESOME !!! 😍🎵🎵🤘
I always felt that Providence should have been on Starless And Bible Black and The Great Deceiver and Lament should have been on Red. Both albums would be more even. Great video though!
That’s a great suggestion!!!!
Even more improv on SABB? That would make it unlistenable...
@@thecandlemaker1329 At least the improv on SABB is interesting. I just don't get Providence at all. OK, we'll leave SABB as it is, ditch Providence completely and find something better to replace it with on Red!
Hey Scot, for some reason at first I always thought you were Canadian!
I feel Canadian. And my brother lives in Toronto so…
#1 Thick as a Brick
#2 Foxtrot
#3 Selling England
#4 Dark Side of the Moon
#5 Close to the Edge
I love it!!!!
Von Hertzen Bro-In Murmuration 9+|10
Thanks scot👍
Great album!!!!!!! I love VHB!!!
Thank you!!!!🙏
I should give that list a pubmeeple as well.
What is that?
@@TheProgCorner pubmeeple is a Ranking Engine website.
Aawesome video list Scot have a great day also I have a cold ❤😢😥🤧👃

14. Nursery Chryme
15. Dark Side of the Moon
16. Mirage
17. Hemispheres
18. Wish You Were Here
19. Animals
20. Moving Pictures
Definitely less of a fan of PF and Rush than the other bands represented here.
PFM!!!!! I love it.
I sincerely hope that the 4th album will be Nursery Cryme.
It will be!!!!!!
What about "Hatfield and the North"?
PA has the debut at #75. Too low!!!!
My Personal Ranking: (with scores out of 10)

16) Pawn Hearts 7.5/10
17) Hemispheres 7/10
All Good albums. I haven't heard the other three yet but I probably will soon
Awesome!!!!!!
Saluti
Banco!!!! Yes!!!! Darwin!!!!
I would place The Lamb Lies Down on number 1 (or atleast top 3)
Absolutely!!!! (It’s my second favorite album ever.)
I would sell my soul to watch a video where you really did get to give king Charles a lifestyle makeover.
Free beer?! 😂
Sign in Key West reads:
FREE BEER!!!!!!!!!
tomorrow
"You know in some ways Scot, you and I are very different people".
Love the idea and the list but mine looks a liiiiitle different:
20. Animals
19. Wish You Were Here (I find these albums, especially Animals, just so boring...)
18. Moonmadness (Good, not my favourite Camel)
17. Per un Amico
16. Fragile (the band songs are among the best Yes ever did. The solo tracks are almost all wastes of time...)
15. Mirage
14. Pawn Hearts
13. Nursery Cryme
12. Moving Pictures
11. Relayer
10. Court of the Crimson King (agreed, the bookends are two of the best songs in prog but the middle sags)
9. Dark Side of the Moon
8. Selling England by the POund (Cinema Show is maybe my favourite song of all time, but Battle of Epping Forest sucks)
7. Red
6. Hemispheres (my personal fav. is Permanent Waves)
5. Godbluff (I'd personally take Still Life over Godbluff, but Godbluff is a close 2nd)
4. Foxtrot
3. Close to the Edge
2. Larks' Tongues in Aspic
@@MusicVersa picnic!!!!
That’s absolutely right!!!!!!
Am I correct that Relayer has gained way more acclaim over the last few decades? I always loved it but I remember it being considered a weaker 70's Yes album.
I think you’re correct about that.
Progarchives hates ELP? In fact rather small discography + high level of rivalry from other bands. This said their debut is a masterpiece. And Trilogy too. I'll take them over Rush, Camel and those Italians any day.
The debut, Tarkus, Trilogy and Brain Salad Surgery should be in their Top 100!!!!
@МаксРогозин-е1ю I LOVE JEREMY BENDER!!!!!
That would be very interesting!!!!
Fantastic episode, progachives needs a lot of corrections overall, I've personally stopped following the page years ago. As for the fourth album I vote for my favorite album from 71, Pawn Hearts. Cheers my friend and prog on.
Pawn Hearts lost out to Nursery Cryme for the Sunday show!!!!!
PA has Aqualung at #22, The Yes Album at #32, A Trick Of The Tail at #58, Focus at #88 & ELP at #95!!! Crazy.
@@TheProgCorner Yes They do, they should be in the top 20 IMO, It is crazy Trick & ELP so far down the list. But it's just a list lol. Love Progarhives, best site for prog.
No algorithm for me fella,I’m here by my own sweet choice, now prey tell me what you have to say ❤😂 peace bro , the cure in orange 😂😂👍🏻☀️☀️☀️
👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️🐍🐍🐍
In general, I think your “fix” is much closer to my opinion. My only “fix” to yours would be to move Moving Pictures up and Animals down. But that’s minor.
Nice!!!👍
This aligns with my preferences much better than their top 20. Alas, there's too little Jethro Tull, and LTIA is too high up for my taste.
I’m extremely biased regarding LTIA - as if my avatar didn’t give that up!!!!
Evil Andy "Clickbait" Edwards at it again.😑
The Prog Corner vs Evil Pt. 2
The prog archives has a good list but I would personally have a very hard time making a list myself. There’s way too much good music and it kind of depends on what I’m listening to at a specific time.
Exactly!!!!!👍
Yes!!!!!!!!👍
Larks has be top ten, otherwise, hair splitting(thanks Scot)
👍👍👍👍👍👍
Animals is the most progressive album of pink Floyd ,wich are in my Opinion the most known PSYCHEDELIC band in the world
My reranking:
Close to the Edge
Selling England By The Pound
In the Court of the Crimson King
The Dark Side of the Moon
Foxtrot
Red
Relayer
Hemispheres
Mirage
Nursery Cryme
Thick as a Brick
Fragile
Larks' Tongues in Aspic
Wish You Were Here
Animals
Moonmadness
Per Un Amico
Pawn Hearts
Godbluff
Moving Pictures
Fantastic!!!!!
Thick as a brick. Wonder how much was Ian really "sort of making fun of Prog" and how much was in some way just part of his nature, his iconoclastic tendencies to conceive things that way? ...APP was the follow up after all.
A good observation!!!!!!
Andy Edwards, haa! if that's his real name? This list and the order of rankings, as well as all others, are all wrong . EVERYBODY knows my neighbours all listen to the best music...MINE ! 😉 RUSH #1.
Nice!!!!👍
Prog Archives is a horrible site. It looks terrible and they don’t allow albums by the same band to have different genres. Rate Your Music is so much better.
Yes and no.
most predictable list ever....the choice of selling england over nursery cryme or trick is a sign of this.
And The Lamb!!!! Unacceptable!!!!
If Gabriel was on A Trick Of The Tail it would be regarded as their best w.
