    Honestly the Type R sounds great like that. I'm a big fan of factory active exhausts. I used to have a Scion tC that was catless, no resonator, and had a fart can. While I enjoyed that in my late teens, I can't imagine driving something that obnoxious all the time now lol. I have my sights set on a Mustang Dark Horse maybe next year. The quiet start feature is a dream come true living in an apartment complex with an attached garage.

    • @porfiriato84
      @porfiriato84 Год назад +5

      Dude I had the same in my first gen tC. Mine had an aftermarket header, exhaust and CAI. I was young so I thought my car sounded cool. But looking back now, I'd never drive it haha. I also lowered it on springs, limo tint all around (which caused CHP to write me a ticket) had these awesome wheels in staggered stance and short throw shifter. Good times.
      Oh and I forgot, I had 2 12" kicker subs with a 1000 watt mono amp. Shit sounded terrible LMAO

    I can honestly hear very faint burbles and pops even with stock FL5 exhaust. it probably gets louder as you remove these resonators

    I like the resonator delete + valve open combo, that sounds spot-on to me^. Loud enough that you can hear it, but not so loud as to wake up the neighbourhood. Yeah, it should be like that stock, but oh well what can you do. 🙂
    I wonder if people who find the CTR's shocks too stiff and people who find the ITS too soft will be swapping suspension modules at car meets?
    ^ I achieved a similar effect on my FN2 Civic Type R by removing the middle baffle from the back box and welding it back up, a nice OEM+ sound perhaps like how it should have sounded in the first place. (The last thing you want to do on an NA four cylinder is a resonator delete as that sounds awful - like a swarm of bees in a can, that's strictly for turbo fours only, lol! This way it kept the Helmholtz chamber at the end of the stock back box to remove drone, which a lot of aftermarket back boxes omit.)

    Honda's hottest car after the NSX, and yet it they give it literally no exhaust note/character. The whole industry has been moving to louder, adjustable systems for around a decade now and all other performance brands appear to have exhaust character down way more than Honda.

      Tbh its pretty hilarious at how aggressive they tuned the exhuast valving and resonators to be given how quiet it is 🤣

    • @TassieLorenzo
      @TassieLorenzo Год назад +2

      *ALL* Japanese performance cars are like this, it's not a coincidence (be it Nissan Z, WRX STi, WRX, GR Yaris, GR Corolla, they are all quiet -- even the Nissan GT-R's stock exhaust is quiet). They follow the noise regulations faithfully in spirit (part of Japanese politeness?) unlike German, British, Italian and Korean cars which follow the letter of the noise rules but not the spirit of them.
      E.g., the Porsche GT3's exhaust valve used to open at exactly 55 km/hr, when the driveby noise test is measured at 50 km/hr. Some European vehicles were even programmed to specifically close the exhaust valves between 45 and 54 km/hr even, they are that blatant in skirting the vehicle noise regulations.
      This all changed somewhat with the 2017 EU WLTP rules that now require cars to meet driveby noise in their *loudest mode* in Europe (so a 2018 Audi RS3 or 2021 Mercedes A45, which also has a petrol particulate filter now, is *much quieter* than a 2016 Audi RS3 or 2016 Mercedes A45 in Europe) -- this doesn't apply in the USA though, hence cars like the Elantra N & Ford Mustang still being loud with the valves open.
      Edit -- It is also partly that the vehicle noise regulations in the Japanese domestic market are particularly strict too. The cars are not necessarily re-engineered with a different exhaust for other markets.

    • @williamrori1274
      @williamrori1274 Год назад +1

      @@TassieLorenzo To be clear though, many OE's DO specifically modify their calibration and exhaust to meet other market specifications. For instance, in the states we use SAE J2805 for pass-by noise compliance. This stipulates 35 km/h +- 5 km/h at 70-74% of rated engine speed (S). So manufactures absolutely do make adjustments per market, the fact that it appears that Japanese don't sounds like more of a cost saving measure.

    The k20c1 is pretty meh sounding for a K series to begin with. Nothing compared to the early 2000's k20 that has an actual 4 ported exhaust manifold. That being said the Invidia r400 and a catless downpipe sound pretty solid with it's big resonator and all the turbo sounds coming through the exhaust due to no cat. It just drones pretty bad but I got used to it lol. Yours is sounding pretty great too

    Hey Topher, I'm a fan and got my type r last month. Wanted to know if you could recommend a good sporty, more comfortable tire that can get last at least 30k miles wear?
    - I want to use stock original 19" rims but would prefer a little more side wall for softer ride in these crap so-cal freeways. I want to save cup 4's for track in spring.
    I appreciate your content and it nudge me to pull the trigger on mine in sonic grey. Love it!
    Only few gripes...
    1. it needs a 15 gl. fuel tank 2.manual handbrake
    3. Better back up camera
    4. Led front/rear signal lights
    5. Unused button: rev match on/off
    6.analog tachometer/speedometer gauges. Keep the rev lights as is, 👌.
    7. R mode can stay extreme but I think comfort and sport need to be dialed back at least 20% of stiffness.
    8. Better factory exhaust note.
    A Long, but liveable lists of gripes that would make it even more timeless imo.
    I do love the,
    1.handling
    2.transmission
    3.brakes
    4.styling
    5.space int&ext
    6.seats are great, but warm in long drives.
    7. visibility, minus right rear corner can be a little limiting. Forward visibility is perfect.
    It would be nice if they could increase clutch firmness a little in R mode, give it a more ' hydraulic' feel. I alsi miss the days of auto tilting side mirrors while reversing parking to see diatance from curb. Budget Camera is not as confidence inspring in rain or limited light situation.

    Nice car, but I think it needs awd. That's a nice area. Where is it?

    A few months ago you had a different exhaust. What happened to that one?

    What diameter pipe and length was used? This would be an easy driveway swap if I had the pipe and clamps on hand.

    Did you say that you noticed a bit more tq with the resonator delete? I would like to do a resonator and muffler delete on my FK8 but am worried I will lose back pressure. Not sure if anyone has any thoughts on that…

    Great video and I will probably do the same. Do you have a part # for the Integra Type S suspension module? I would like to order that as well. Thanks!
