  • Flax seeds have a lot of benefits. But, be sure you get sprouted flax seeds. Here’s why.
    Timestamps
    0:00 Flax seed benefits
0:50 The problem with flax seeds
1:55 What are sprouted flax seeds?
In this video, we’re going to talk about flaxseed.
    Benefits of flax seeds:
    • They’re packed with omega-3 fatty acids
    • They’re high in fiber
    • They have ligands (ligands can help balance estrogen)
    • They have a lot of vitamin B1
    • They have a lot of copper and other minerals
The problem is that flax seeds also have enzyme inhibitors. This means that flax seeds aren’t digested. Enzyme inhibitors prevent the breakdown of the flaxseed and the absorption of minerals and protein in the body.
Flax oil can have benefits as well as fresh, crushed flax seeds. Otherwise, they will have enzyme inhibitors.
However, what I suggest is getting sprouted flax seeds. When the flax seeds sprout, they no longer have enzyme inhibitors, and they can be digested. You can add sprouted flax seeds to your salad, kale shake, and more and actually absorb the minerals.

For those confused by this, All seeds and nuts have enzyme inhibitors, that is why our ancestors let grains stand for a few days prior to processing to use. Ancestors also fermented grains with yeast and probiotic bacteria such as sourdough to make bread. The traditional (over 150 years) knew this. We live in the dark ages of nutritional knowledge, and if you look through the hype to what our ancestors ate prior to industrial food monopolies, the truth will be obvious. Read Nourishing traditions by Sally Fallon, and Nutrition and Physical Degeration by Weston A Price and you will firmly grasp these concepts and be able to teach others the wisdom of real food nourishing our gene expression. There were reasons behind ancient traditions of harvest, fermentation, distilling, etc.

Well said Anne, Dr Berg can't even spell Lignans! Sprouted flax and chia seeds should be included in everyone's diet in my opinion. Plus fermented foods - especially fermentable fibre to keep the god bacteria happy and well nourished. Most people do not consume enough fibre and that causes many intestinal related health issues.

I will share a recipe. Dry roast flax seeds, dry roast ground nuts ( optional) let it cool. Add raw garlic, little chilly & salt as per taste. grind it all together & make a dry powder. We consume it as chutney or it could be sprinkled on salads or spreads. It's healthy. Doesn't have shelf life though. Not to be left for too long. it gets rancid. I will try sprouts. Never knew that. in several european countries at least, there are national recommendations not to eat more than two tbsps a day of whole flax seeds due to seed contents that can break down to form cyanide, and to eat even less of crushed seeds for the same reason. eating the sprouted seeds is fine, though. (and it should be lignans, not ligands - ligands are what bind to receptors in a very general sense)

Please stop doing that! What you have to do now is to control the falling of your hair like what I am doing now. I had very serious hair fall after using the expensive L’Oréal products which contain chemicals. You will see good results in the beginning but your amount of hair fall will increase months later every day which cause you feel like screaming. After watching the RUclips about using the Hair Mask and Shampoo which were made by Aloe Vera Gel including Almond Conditioner, my amount of hair fall now is 1/3 than before. Please stop using any hair products except Organic hair products or Herbal hair products. You will see the good results soon. Also, wash your hair with cold water not HOT water or WARM water daily. Maintain your comb clean daily. Do not use hair blower, rebound and have your hair tied up the whole day which cause hair loss.

Hello Berg! Question, dont the enzyme inhibitors only effect the digestion of the actual seed shell itself? I had the understanding that once the flaxseed was crushed, the body was now able to absorb the nutrients from the seed and that the crushed shell would then simply not be digested and eliminated in the stool like most fiber. Are you saying that the inhibitors that are released by the seed shell actually block the absorption of other nutrients in the intestines??

Queneshia Granger its not recommended to eat crushed flax seeds due to seed contents that are digested into cyanide, but sprouting them is fine, and eating them whole is great for the bowel

ok ive eaten up to half a pound of ground up flax for a whole month if the cyanide was a problem id be dead also someone suggested freezing them just so you know freezing hurts the omega 3 just put it in a refrigerator and also some guy said there still enzyme inhibitors bro i dont gain weight when i go off ground flax seed infact i often loose weight as well as when i ate half a pound of ground flax a day for a month i did feel symptoms of to much omega 3 so your just bullshitting sprouting is a good idea cause it gives you some leafy vitamins like vitamin a and k and lowers the calories therefore increasing the nutrient to calorie ratio but you dont need to do it als dont trust the fda on everything bro they suggest 3.33 times less vitamin c than whats recommended by science for optimal health and 10 times less then what our ancestors ate they suggest 2 times the amount of calcium then what is recommended by science for bone fracture rates they suggest half the amount of fiber that science says is necessary and 2.5 times less then what our ancestors ate as well as theres this thing called nutrient recycling gene expression idk how strong it is but it would be retarded to say oh everyone needs this much of that nutrient per pound of body weight/specific tissue

Are Flax Seeds and fish oils the same as far as OMEGA 3 intake? The issue and confusion that I have is that OMEGA 3 fish supplementation is also loaded with OMEGA 6, that by all accounts from what i read, is very bad for you. Is this true? Is taking flaxseeds better than fish oils and what's their content of OMEGA 6s as well? Thanks for the information and happy new year:)

Isn't Flax - oil, crushed or sprouted regardless - high in mainly ALA Omega 3's of which only 10% get absorbed by the body? Is EPA and DHA (for ex salmon oil) with high absorption/digestion not the preferred choice?

I can't remember the name but there is a German brand of golden flax seed that comes pre-crushed. Very tasty. That is the one to get. Otherwise, just grind 'em immediately prior to use.

Yes. I use them all the time and when I don't get it there is also a Canadian brand I think it's called windmill that has the same. Both works wonderfully.
