      Anyone can look like a beast against a player who struggles to even breathe (thinking back to the final against the COVID-affected Elena Rybakina). As for the highly talented Kasatina, well she just had an off day (definitely not her usual self). 🎾

      @@Amazing_Mark looks like Kasatkina lost a lot of energy during her semifinal match vs Pegula and that contributed to her loss today, but Collins definitely deserves to win this title because of the quality of her play.

      Always been aggressive. The problem with her has historically been consistency and mental strength. Simply take a look at her pre-Miami record and you’ll see she barely imade it to the SF of any given tournament. Sometimes she would lose against random players, and almost never won against the top players. So this last two weeks have been like watching a totally different player, really focused. This game against Kasatkina and the previous one against Sakkari are typical ones she would lose.

      @rattata30 no disrespect to you, but the two you are referring to were playing against inferior quality opponents compared to today. Every tennis expert are in agreement that the quality of players nowadays are at an all-time high. The difference between the quality of players ranked 11 to 100 is small, so much so that anybody can beat anybody inside that rank range and upsets are very common these days than during the pre 2000s years. Players nowadays are so much faster and stronger and technically sound than players in those years due to the science and technology at their fingertips. Even the great Serena Williams wouldn't be as dominant today as there are many players who are even stronger than she is. We saw what Rybakina did to Serena at Roland Garros 2021. Admittedly, that Serena was no longer in her prime, but the last thing to leave a tennis player is strength and Serena still was as strong physically as in her prime that day. Remember how she trashed Halep at the Australian Open.

      @@tennisobserver995 Actually Serena's era is the strongest. Now there is a dip in quality (raducanu can even win a Slam!) - u can see from the relatively weak top 10. On the other hand, Serena's era from 2000 to 2020 - u can see so many iconic champions and tennis legends that played during those decades. Just too many to list here.

    • @dukeon
      @dukeon Месяц назад +3

      Serena was unbeatable for a number of years in the 2010s… I remember her score being over 20,000 at one point (having won 3 of the 4 GSs the previous year) and the #2 player had like 8,000 points. I don’t remember the exact numbers, but the gap was insane. Same with Graf in her prime. Seles, Hingis, Henin all had their time of glory.
      I don’t think anyone is a Serena or Steffi on the current tour. But I do agree that in the 70s, 80, 90s there was a big dropoff after the top names. Even players like Sharapova would run off long winning streaks if Serena was out with an injury (lol). Nowadays, I don’t think the top 5 or 10 is as strong (my opinion), but 1-100 is stronger than ever. 🎾

    Is no one going to talk about how weak kasatkina’s serve was? For being ranked number 11 in the world that’s ridiculous, there are teenage girls that can serve better than that.

    It's like last breath. When she decided to hang out her racquet and she started to play for the crowd and not for her. Hence the best results at the end of her career. Memorable year.

    Crazy tennis from Danielle Collins right now....I find American players play their best on the American courts! Let's see if Danielle can take this energy and confidence to the European clay season and grass season... if she continues to play like this...she will win a grand slam this year! Would be an even more incredible way to end her career!
