Human Punishment: The Beginning is a stand alone game and the Prequel of Human Punishment: Social Deduction 2.0 and it is a semi-cooperate, social deduction & pick-up and deliver hybrid!
3-6 players try to avoid the secret Machine revolution, but Machine spies are everywhere and they try to corrupt the Human players. There are also Outlaws, Fallen and Legion just as in Human Punishment and every faction works for their own goals.
This game features a new mechanic called CWS (Connecting World System), which gives you the option to combine Human Punishment: The Beginning with Human Punishment: Social Deduction 2.0 to experience an epic theme night with YOUR OWN outcome!
The Beginning is a fully stand alone game, but you can also combine it with Human Punishment: Social Deduction 2.0.

Unless something changed, a few corrections (I recognized) based on the current rules draft:
12:20 For the Action in Sector 2, the one chip not taken by the 2nd player (who got 2 of the 3 chips) will not get put back on top of the stack, but will actually be placed in the "Junkyard" (region).
13:08 Actually those chips in tier 2 won't be revealed (nor shuffled).
I just backed this game, also because they now have an alternate board art on the back which is less distracting. But it‘s so nice and gentle how you describe that this board looks like an overloaded crappy eye sore.
Excellent review. Got the chance to play the prototype. I really love this game. And I'm not the biggest fan of social deduction games, but this one is really different.

A gameplay would be a good add to this amazing review, as I'm concerned if it's to difficult to put on the table (regarding my friends and the fact that I don't usually play with the same ones). Anyway keep it up champ ! QUACK
It is a pretty easy game, u just have lots of options to do. There is a great learning curve and all player are ready after just 1 round (each player had 1 turn)
A 3 or more players playthrough would be very nice! Great review! I just want to see you play it now 😉
I agree :) - we haven’t been able to get everyone into the studio over the last few weeks. One has a baby on the way and I have been a bit burnt out due to some behind the scenes things!

We offer 6 player sheets with: All areas and their actions, all player actions, and symbols, all winning conditions... so this makes the game pretty easy :)
Great preview! The art and deluxe components are fantastic, but I think it will be a pass from me. Just too much going on and too many games to invest the time it'd take to get a group comfortable with it.

I absolutely love when design alone brings such table presence miniature pr0n games are blown out of air. I like hardcore social deduction, but BSG has filled that "need" for me. for those who cannot afford it nowadays this looks like something at least not worse in the feel of subversion. I wrote that even before reading any testimonials and now see people really really want that void filled with this

Artwork is fantastic and I really am intrigued by it. I own Human punishment and while enjoying it a lot, experienced 2 issues with it. Rulebook was a bit messy, but I can live with that. My problem was it felt like it was too complex for my light boardgames groups and my heavy boardgamer friends tend to not like "pure social deduction" games. I wonder if this one would capture the latest group's interest.
Obviously that is very much up to each individual... I both like lighter games, especially Social Deduction, but mostly play heavier games (Vital Lacerda ones mostly).
Social Deduction games often lack any actual gameplay mechanics, like, if you take away the Social Deduction part, the game falls apart or to be more precise "There is no game left", which - if played too often - usually starts to bother me as well. This (HP: The Beginning) is one of the few which beside that Deduction component, seems to have enough "meat" to really make you feel like actually playing a proper boardgame. So, I think it might come down to if your friends usually tend to not like "pure social deduction" games NOT because it's social deduction, but because those games usually lack proper gameplay mechanics... If that is the reason, I think there is a fair chance that could enjoy this one.
Obviously this is all based on from what I've seen/read... I never played this one personally... but I'm very hopeful. :-)

How long is a playsession? Probably depends a lot on the number of players, but roughly how much time should I reserve to set it up and play a round with - lets say - 4 players?
And can you already say if it works better with 6 players than it does with 3?
Creator says 2-3 hours (playtime, assuming, not including setup?) and that it's balanced well and enjoyable for 3/4/5/6.
2-3 hours playtime, player count don't matter... it always belongs to players, trash talk and stuff like that :) We played the hell out of it with 3 and 4 player counts in Lockdown.... so the game starts awesome at 3 layers. but I personally prefer 4,5 or 6 players :)

Thoughts on this vs Veiled Fate?
I love BSG, own it and all expansions. That is probably the reason I won't back this because I'd rather get BSG to the table and my group play that instead. Does look like a good game though, given how difficult it is to get BSG now, I think it's worth it for others.
I love BSG too, but I'll get HP:TB because: I only like to play BSG with a player count of 5! No more no less ;) Human Punishment works fine with 3,4 and 6 players. A nice little boot camp for the next round of BSG.
Holding on to my beloved copies of BSG and the Pegasus Expensions. Didn’t buy the other two back in the day though, it’s too late now.
i really love social dedication game, but i don’t usually have a high number of groups. and this play in low number and have depth in it. i think it is good for me?

if it’s a strategy social deduction game, how can i play strategy without showing which team i am. i think it’s hard to bluff you not have a time! just want to do you owns objects. Like Veiled Fate, a bad social deduction game because you don’t have a time to bluff!

Really Interested in the game, love the game mechanics, but the board seems really messy. I would really love to see an alternate board with less text on it.

@@HatterM111 I like that "hint". I think an alternative "expert" board which leaves out all the action descriptions (or with pure "iconography" - in general would love to see a more advanced "iconography" to get rid of more of the text in general - rather than a mix of words and icons) would be a great addition, so once all at the table are familiar with everything could enjoy more of the art versus reading the text.

The game sounds like an amazing experience, but I just hate that game board so much 🙈 it's so bright and overloaded.. I just don't think I'll find people that are down learning the game when they get overwhelmed by it this much from the get go..
This game is very boring. Very very boring. One can share his lotalty openly and it doesn't matter at all. It really is pointless.
