@@falsche9tv312 It’s not cheating because interacting with madness is optional, but given why madness was introduced in this script and the fact Adam made sure the storytellers couldn’t hear him was not in the spirit of the game and and was just bad form and a bit underhanded and kind of unfair to the general planning of the script.
I think Adam’s conduct should mean he has some wins removed from his board game club blackboard
Or he has to play twice as many games of Monopoly if he fails
@@nerobattlebeardwolfgang-cl6514 of course it's cheating. If madness is broken, the storyteller is ment to be told. Blampied breaking madness when no ST is present, so that he couldn't be potentially executed, is cheating Tom out of his ability. It's really poor conduct. I have gotten rid of a player in my group for doing exactly this twice, even after I had spoken to them about it.
@@bufftucker the act of breaking madness is not cheating any player has that option. Where the grey area is and this is partly due to the online nature of these is that he actively avoided storytellers to do it. There have been other games where storytellers just missed people breaking madness, it happens. It’s just poor form to actively work to elude the storytellers imo.

Jon’s logic is like occum’s blunt hammer.
This game has everything:
-Demon thinking he's a Lunatic
-Townsfolk claiming evil to the Magician
-Politician immediately solving the game, then keeping it secret
-Dreamer immediately finding politician, but being driven mad that he's the goblin so he can't tell people.
-Cerenovus making the Dreamer mad that he's the Dreamer
-Townsfolk trying to lure minions into thinking she's Damsel, BUT she tells her to roles ONLY to the ONE minion in the game.
Just wild all around.
hands down its the best BotCT I have seen, nothing comes close so far, its a shame there was no Sully in it that is the only thing that could have made it better

@@zacdredge3859 Her genuine and honest defense of herself almost got her killed instead though, which I think still would've handed her the win! It's amazing how she was just constantly in a set of circumstances where she'd come out on top no matter what happened.

As amusing as Ken is, I would absolutely never play with someone like them for a second time.
Chaos is fun, but their decisions are often so detrimental to their own team, I’d get way too flustered and annoyed.
I like the implication that he's able to be be the most chaotic player while someone else has his napalm

on the final day couldn’t have tom made blair to be mad about being for example, the savant. then blair can simply just say “im the politician”, which breaks madness, executing blair which causes evil to win. that definitely would count as a large contribution to helping evil win which means she would win with evil.

This episode was bonkers in a great way.
Jon's social reads continue to be hilariously bad. He can't even read himself now.
His logic is even worse than his reads. At least his reads occasionally are right. (but still worse than random)

I thought evil had it the entire game... then boom... Adam was finally allowed to tell the truth. At that point Jon was pretty toast. He STILL almost got out of it.

I was absolutely losing my marbles at Jon yelling “I’M THE LEVIATHAN” and Blair with a story so specific only Carley would be able to come up with, and begging on her knees for them to kill Jon. And the cherry on top, people around them were just like

It was a rough one. I really don't know if I could've taken it if they somehow didn't execute Jon, who outed himself on day one, correctly named his minion, and correctly named the magician, and was literally only cleared from being a demon by someone that admitted they lied.
It was basically almost impossible that Jon wasn't the demon ...
Its genuinely impressive and infuriating how often they've solved who the demon is, have them on the chopping block, then letting them live another day to disastrous/nearly disastrous consequences
Blair should have nominated herself to save Jon. Either they tie the vote and then vote for Jon again
Or they execute her and she clearly becomes the reason evil won.
But Thats just not Blair, isnt she?
@@Lucarioguild7 you're right but then I sometimes think ... these guys know they are an entertainment show. If they just 'solved the game' and it ended after 3 rounds, would it really be fun? Pretty much nobody who plays is a try-hard, thankfully

More than half of players openly claimed evil roles, most of them doing so on day one, and it still went to the final day. This was one of the most insane games I've ever seen...
Blair's Empath play on day 1 would of totally given her the politician win no matter what happened on subsequent day. That was the best thing to watch.
She could have even pretended to be the demon and still won at the end. She could have literally just sat down, and said anything, at all. Get executed? Evil wins, Blair wins. Out evil? Good wins, Blair wins.
Not sure what evil could have done at the end though. Tom could have 'novus'd Blair into empath, Jon could have continued to go Lunatic (which if Adam dreamed Jon the STs would have supported), either could have pointed out that a worldview where Blair was the Demon was consistant with a Dreamer seeing Blair as Leviathan...
@@DracoSuave I think Blair was bulletproof. Best way to handle it would have been to ceronovus Blair to try and make it seem to her like evil was the easier way for her to win but...for Blair I'm not sure if she would have done it.
@@jonofpdx I mean it wouldn't matter to Blair, but who knows. Forcing Blair to decide whether or not good wins or loses by her own sacrifice would have been thematicly perfect given how much of an impact one little lie had on the entire game--how it caused evil to never talk to each other, never corroborate.
At the end, it was Tom forced to act completely alone--evil won, or lost, based on Blair and that was just insane to behold.
Ben and Laurie gossiping over Ken, Dom, Tom, Jon and Blair was perfection. Laurie’s hand over mouth moment was brilliant. He thought he had the best news then Ben came in with “get this” oh boy, no idea how this’ll play out but I can’t see it ending well for Jon’s mental health 😂
This game’s first day was so funny

The politician manages to guess one of the actual Demons Bluffs to make the actual Demon think he is a lunatic

this is probably. the biggest clusterfuck of an early game. ive EVER seen from blood on the clocktower. great job daddy ben.
Am I right in thinking Tom could have cerenovused himself on the last day to force his own execution and end day 5 without executing the demon? If that's right, the game was even closer than they realised.

@@TomDufall Good idea, but they storytellers have the option to execute someone that breaks madness. They don't have to.
I'd have to assume in that case they just wouldn't do it to prevent such a cheap mechanic (and their own decision to follow through on it) from deciding the game.

Love how Blair could've just voted for herself and win with evil but decided to stick with Good, in the end Holly played more as a politian than her
Actually I think the way she gave it away in the end could have costed Blair the win. When she came clean she opted for the good side, and in my eyes she shouldn't have qualified for the Politician win in case nobody believed her.
I literally. A game where I Was good I was the monk I went to talk to someone I heart claimed I was the monk to them they hard claimed they were the soldier to me And we agreed to roll swap. Then a washer woman comes up to me ask me if I Are the impact and I tell them no I'm The soldier. Oh good that means the other person On the washerwoman ping is probably the spy. And The person that was Not the person that claimed soldier to me. Fun fact I Later found out that I had day 1 Hard claimed to the demon I was the monk. And because of So many insane coincidences this little lie. I was going to tell to just keep The demon off my a** just Immediately topples. I somehow make it the final 3. And we won. Good players lie all the time. Holly. Holy Had a plan and it blew up in her face. It happens and literally no one would be questioning it if it didn't blow up in her face. I also argue Holly really didn't play badly she only did That on day one realized it wasn't going to work and then dropped it and started telling people The truth set for that 1 time that she lied to Adam but conversation with Adam was insane.
I've seen a game go off the rails before. 45 minutes in, I'm not sure this game had rails. I love it.

There are tears streaming down my face at Adam and Holly's goblin conversation. I'm sure there were better ways to play that for the team, but 10000% this was the best for the content.
You gotta respect Holly sticking to her guns on not trusting Adam there. She knows that Adam might try a "Mad Goblin" play if he were the goblin and he's a good liar who commits to a bit, even when he's lying. She was wrong, in this case, but just because she was wrong doesn't mean it was the wrong play.
Poor Tom is totally frazzled for this game.
Jon's absolutely insane logic/plan of just telling everyone is one of the maddest things I've ever seen in BOTC.

But the point of these games is not to win as fast as possible. It's to create an enjoyable watching experience so we want to come back next month and watch. And I don't think you can deny that this was one very enjoyable 3 hours of free content.
@@HarryBuddhaPalm I play a few other video games, and board games. I will use an example of one. Dead by Daylight. I like to play killers in that game, but this applies to survivors too. The games can be over fast. A bad set of each side can make games short, but shirt games stop you earning more points. The aim of the game isn't so much to win fast, but to put on a show for the games "Entity". Not every choice you make should be for the benefit of rushing a game, but for having the .ost fun. Two shorter games would be nice to some, but we got such wonderful chaos due to this that it was more a fun game, rather then a competitive one. When you've played enough games of something, the change of pace is refreshing. :) Try viewing it like that. I'm not saying you're wrong for how you feel. I respect and get your side. I'm just saying I think it helps.

I think the biggest missed opportunity, by Blair choosing to play for the good team is seeing Jon's face after learning that he is the demon AFTER evil won the game.
Blair speech coming out as politician is just so good!
You can see the moment when it dawns on Adam (2:22:37) that basically already knew, on Jon (2:22:47), on Dom (2:22:54) and on Holly (2:23:08) before she even says it.
So entertaining
This was the most gaslit game and it somehow didn’t include Carley.
I second politician Carley, and not as an in-person game either; I legit would rather have that as a Zoom game because of her ability to have private chats and just marionette everybody simultaneously

I think my favourite episode since Billiard Boys. I spent two and a half hours thinking "Jon's beefed it, they must be playing two games". HOW DID THIS GO SO LONG?!?
It’s funny because when the leviathan premise was revealed I was like “I’m surprised it’s only 3 hours since they have to deliberate a lot more and get to 5 days”
And then half an hour in I was like “how is this three hours long???”
One word: incompetence.
Jon freaking out when the penny finally drops is just priceless. One of the best episodes yet, no doubt about that.
I LOVE how Blair screwed evil more than she screwed good round 1 by tricking the demon that he was a lunatic in a Levitan game
And at that moment I fully understood why we can buy a shirt that says... Eat Shit Blair

Regardless of how you feel about Adam's play here there's one thing I do know, Blair 100% won this game.
Wait. How could you think Adam did anything other than an amazing game? He perfectly followed madness as best any person could in the situation.
A Golem would not just say "Am a Golem. Always was one." but they'd instead try to sow some chaos before being forced to out as evil, which he did perfectly. When he was about to break, his panic asking Holly to give her info could be read as a Minion desperately trying to act like a Damsel so he can get the name of the Damsel (acting desperate to tell her something but unable to on the off-chance Holly is evil).
When he was mad as Savant, he came up with 3 days of reasonable info on the fly. I couldn't do that. I'd panic and say I need to out my info after I talk to the ST and clear up a question I had on a piece of info and just HOPE that nobody notices I never whispered with the STs alone before that while I panic make up some believable crap that points at the right people. That's a huge ask for someone to do right off at the start of the day and I think he did the best anyone could.
If he didn't break madness, he'd never be sure to convince town there's actually a Cerenovus. He didn't need to be blatant about the madness breaking, and honestly he might've screwed it up for town if he was blatant and Ben/Laurie didn't execute him. Think about how much less the stories could be corroborated if Adam just looks like a desperate Leviathan/Golem trying to point at Jon. Yeah, the executions are much more dangerous with Leviathan, but his death confirmed Holly, Tom, and Blair. Not executing could be huge for evil team.
Also yeah, Blair was the MVP here, though there were so many solid plays in this game. (Also huge kudos to Dan for asking great Amne questions.)
@@kyleb8117 Adam totally cheated at 1h 28mins. He used the fact the storytellers weren't listening in to break madness to Blair and avoid being executed for it.

@@8han Nothing in the rules says you cannot do that. The players he talked to can out him. If Ben suspects it happened, he can execute whenever he wishes. It is when the ST suspects the player has broken madness that matters. Cheating would be something like peeking at the grimoire, nominating when you're a spent Golem, voting against your master as Butler, etc. He wasn't cheating. He was choosing to not follow madness and risking the consequences.

@@eazyleezy85 I had just started watching. I think Tom was just so confused by what John was doing that he didn't even know what to say or do. I would not mind if he played again to see if it goes better. I really enjoy Tom in other videos.
@@slothdance2020 Tom is great, but to have him rejoin in such a chaotic game, was rough. Impossible to think what the game would have been if unpredictable Isaac and Rosie were in the mix.
I think Tom is also unwell. For someone who always seems very on top of his rational deduction in games, he seemed tired or some kind of brain fog.

I think in a normal situation he would have gone to Jon on day 2 with the realization that Blair wasn't the empath and basing his belief of being a lunatic on her claim was a mistake since she definitely shouldn't have gotten a zero sitting next to him. He definitely wasn't in top form.
Oh my god. I don't have words. I don't have WORDS. This game was incredible. Jon not realizing he's the demon until day 4. Tom out in the cold with no bluffs. Adam driven to actual madness. Ken and Dom both on the good team, but trying to play each other. And Blair just seeing where this unbelievably lucky lie will carry her. This was phenomenal. Thanks for three hours of adrenaline.
I've not seen a Leviathan, Politician or Magician before I think. Always nice to see new characters.
If you go to the pandemonium institute youtube/twitch there's a ton of videos with all the experimental characters. Some of the roles are crazy.
One of the characters' ability, The Heretic, reads, "Whoever wins, loses & whoever loses, wins, even if you are dead."
So if the Imp finds out there is one in play they have to kill themself in the night, and good want to play to help the evil team without them finding out a Heretic is in play.

Did anyone else sit there internally screaming at Tom to make Blair mad so she could break it and be executed to win for evil?
Tom doesn’t know what he can pull though he STs so much and often refers to Ben for rules clarifying when they ST together
When someone breaks madness the story tellers *may* execute them. If I were them I would not execute in that situation, because it would feel cheap.
“Who would do this to me?!” Basically everyone, Adam. You are a lightning rod in this town.
Absolutely insane episode, loved every second of it, but I am once again very put off by the madness mechanic. Adam just straight up ignored it multiple times when the storytellers weren't there, then got popped for being annoyed he was the goblin after spending the whole day annoyed he was the goblin. It does lead to some nice moments like the conversation he had with Holly, but I really feel like it needs to be clarified what mad people can or can't do in order for the game to make any sense as a whole.
The storytellers can choose to let someone break madness, it's kind of like being poisoned or drunk, in that they can let the truth through if they think it would be more entertaining or confusing, or if they need to balance the scales of evil and good
The storyteller is never obligated to execute someone for breaking madness, for example, if proving you've been Cerenovused will help the Good team the storyteller can just refuse to execute you and confirm it.
@@KaleidoRose Yes, but the biggest point here is not about the storyteller's deciding when to execute or not, its the fact that Adam purposefully broke madness behind the storytellers' back, so that they wouldn't know. I don't know if that's technically cheating or not, but sure as shit feels like it.
@@zachmyers9204 the fact he did it when the storytellers were distracted tells he knew he shouldn't do it. He reviews wrestling damnit. How can he not see he's a heel, cheating when the refs back is turned. Adam is mr fuji to me now.
I think Mutant is a much better implementation of Madness than Cerenovus is, since as long as they don't get smart with a double bluff of Mutant-as-townsfolk-as-outsider they're not going to to get caught out. The Cerenovus gives a bad storyteller much more leeway to intervene when they shouldn't, since actually making a genuine attempt on day one to convince people you're the Klutz would get you executed for not attempting to convince people you're the Klutz.

Blair and Adam in a chat talking about Jon being a lunatic and Ken(who’s bluffing as the Lunatic) asks if they want to chat. Funniest bit ever. Ken is a absolute madman.
Jon accidentally sabotaging his and Tom’s entire game has to be one of the most entertaining but strategically worst moves I’ve ever seen. Good game everyone! Tons of fun as always
Oh my GOD, Jon on Day 1 is just an extraordinary helicopter crash.
Todays game in a nutshell was basically what happens when your Town Cryer is a conspiracy theorist.
Laurie finally won! He may not have played, but the way he watched them all twist themselves into knots, he totally got his revenge.
This has to be one of the maddest episodes of BOTC that I’ve even seen! Between Adam going insane to Blair’s bluff that led to Jon thinking he’s the lunatic, I couldn’t believe what I was watching. The leviathan is a really fun demon and added a whole new dimension and mechanic to this already excellent game.
I don't know how to feel about Adam being able to break madness as long as he isn't caught. Because if it is "technically possible," then fine that's the rules. My problem with it is that I can't help but feel that someone like Ken or Blair in the same situation would not realize that you can basically cheekily reveal madness like that because it honestly just feels like cheating from the outset. @@mykeCA82 The point is more that such a play seems less like a valid move and more like cheating, and that I wonder if the others even know you can do that. Like, if Sully knew he could sneakily break madness if the Storytellers weren't looking, would he have done it in that one BOTC game? If Tom knew his ability could be sidestepped like that, would he play the role differently? That kind of deal.
@@Paper_Smith And Blair 100% could have told the STs, and didn't. Again, it is a risk to tell anyone that you've been made mad. It's still not cheating as much a people want to try and force it. Hell, Adam was executed once for breaking Madness.

I do not agree that this is cheating as there is a huge risk as I mentioned above. Blair, for example, as the Politician, could have informed the STs that Adam broke madness. She did not. Jon could have informed the STs that Adam broke madness, he did not. Adam was already executed once for breaking madness.

This was such a great example of what I've always been saying: Lunatic is such a great character.
So many people discount it because of bad plays plus the Lunatic often finding out day 1 that they're the Lunatic, but boy does this video (and some others) speak volumes about the insane paranoia it can cause by simply existing. Same goes for Magician (and Marionette is so good for that, but it "just works(tm)"). I've had people say they're not impressed with Magician, but the paranoia it causes for evil team and the way it could potentially just shut down their communication is huge. Throw them all together and boy do you have a fun time. (Just avoid having a Marionette that thinks they're a Lunatic, IMO. I know Steven said it's okay to do, but man do I hate the idea on so many levels.)
What a great playthrough. Definitely one of my favorite NRB plays. I have to save this script.
*P.S.:* For any fellow late-watchers that are curious about the thoughts behind this script, I dug up Theo's (i.e. the designer's) statement on it:
“ *Harold Holt's Revenge* (For anyone who doesn't know, Harold Holt was an Aussie Prime Minister who went swimming in the ocean one day and never came back. Now we have an aquatic centre in his name. He has come back as a terrifying Leviathan for revenge)
When I first learnt what madness was, I was really scared of it and our group would always make efforts to cover up who who was mad or they'd get executed. I wanted to re-create that feeling by including Leviathan on the script. This almost forces players to be mad and, since the consequences are much worse, makes for much more tense situations. Other characters increase this tension as you might not know what team you're actually on and a few extra win cons for evil. I personally enjoy this feel but it's not for everyone, especially for players who don't like engaging with madness -- this script isn't really for those kind of people.
This script features no misinformation (unless you're the Marionette) and relies on madness and the outsiders to give the evil team some room. None of the outsiders will be public, which means there's little chance of players being confirmed good by player count. You know you can trust your information at all times but you probably wont be able to trust most of the information being thrown around by other players. I didn't want to overload players with information and create too many possible worlds because some player could be drunk or other player is the Recluse.
Unlike other Leviathan scripts, players are still incentivized to lie about their roles and not info dump making the first 3 days just feel like 1. Due to the Cerenovus and Pit-Hag, the evil team can still take out useful information gathering roles from the good team. This is quite important because it stops characters like the Dreamer or Courtier confirming themselves as good and evil team feeling powerless”
Three things:
1. I thought I had seen all the fun BotC has to offer in the previous episodes. I was wrong: This was absolutely brilliant.
2. Props for the Milan Kundera reference in the title
3. Blair for president!
I was marvelling at the debut of heel Blair, only to be even more delighted to realise that she just booked a babyface turn for herself.
Holly “I am having all of the fun” while tearing her hair out - that should be the tagline of BOTC.
This game is so wild, I love that people are actually openly double bluffing as the demon! I have never seen this.
It's 1AM and Adam's absolutely desperate insanity mirroring the madness imposed upon his character has me laughing so hard that all sound has been consumed by my inability to breathe 😂 We need Adam to be made mad more often. Not for gameplay, but for Schadenfreude based comedy.
There was a moment in the game where someone could have believed that there were 2 demons, 2 psychopath, a guy with a top hat, someone full of hot air, a goblin, and the president
What a topsy-turvy BOTC episode. I was incredibly entertained... because Daddy Ben and Laurie were so incredibly entertained. And who could blame them? I'm truly going to school on learning BOTC via NRB's plays of the game, and this one completely flipped my lid! I did feel a little bad for Tom, who I think was genuinely unsure what to do at some moments. Yet his smart moves were also pointed out, too. Blair's opening was a fluke for the ages! I just can't thank NRB enough for continuing to gift us these episodes, and I'm happy I was able help back the funding of more episodes, especially in-person games to come. Just top notch content, and a treat to watch this group play these games with such fervor, fun and yes... madness! Cheers.
From a gameplay perspective, this episode makes me want to jump out of my skin. As entertainment, this is hilarious. Never have both teams been so discombobulated and bizarre in their strategy, thinking, etc. That conversation between Dom and Ken 😭 so good
I genuinely cannot express how much Jon's face at 2:36:55 got me. I've been using that gif on Discord for weeks without knowing what video it was from, and seeing it just appear in the middle of such a funny and complex BOTC episode had me in stitches. I had to pause the video and laugh so hard I got a headache. Cheers, Jon!

When Adam desperately needed Holly to trust him that he wouldn't use the he wouldn't use the info to guess the Damsel, he could have just publicly guessed someone as the Damsel. Holly would be able to trust him then, because if he indeed was the Minion he would have wasted his teams one try already. Of course he still could have been the demon, but we was being mad about being the Goblin at that time.
More than any other episode in the history, I want a watch party of the players of this episode. Have them sit through the edit and explain their actions.
Since I saw the first episode of BoTC three weeks ago, I’ve watched every episode and finished them all just in time for this one to come out! It did not disappoint; easily one of the most entertaining videos I’ve ever seen. Jon’s face when he realised killed me. Thanks for all the hours of juicy content so far!
I don't know if Jon realised this himself, but his "I am the Leviathan" shtick near the end was such a Politician thing to do: if they vote you while you claim to be demon, you made evil win and therefore win; if they vote the actual demon, you're on the good team and win. If I were sitting at this table (as a good player), that would actually make me consider very seriously if Blair was the demon and Jon the Politician. Luckily for the good team, they were too mindfucked from all the other chaos and ignored Jon's mumblings altogether...
I've actually watched a game where someone claimed Leviathan all five days and every time they were put on the block, the defense was along the lines of "Don't kill me. I'm the Demon and need to survive for 5 days." and that mindfuckery actually worked. It was an absolute blast to spectate.
(It was done over VC in the unofficial Discord a good while back. Also, for full context, the script was Lassiez un Faire, so there was no Politician.)
Rewatching this - an hour in and it's one of the most chaotic episodes yet.
For seemingly no reason, everyone is trying some big play - hard claiming roles they aren't, playing Demon double bluffs and all that confusion around magician, lunatic and all.
It is simultaneously one of the most entertaining yet infuriating episodes yet!
Adam getting away with breaking madness was absolutely insane.
It would have been so glorious to see a demon win when they don't think they're the demon and they don't know who their minion is.

Ben: what's interesting about a leviathan game, is the good team is pretty much free to talk about who they are and share information, and really, its a deductive game. so, they win by sorting through the information that they have

After much anticipation, there is finally an NRB Politician game! Wooo!! And boy howdy did the Politician make this entire game insane!
This is also a very good showcase of the impact the Magician can have. There was what, 3 or 4 people claiming to be some potential combination of the Leviathan, the Lunatic, the Magician and the Minion on day one? Amazing!

35:47 I missed it on my first watch as my eyes were glued on Jon because I couldn't believe what I was hearing, but on a second watch, Ben's reaction throughout Jon's confession is hilarious af 😂 At first, when Jon speaks, Ben is trying to figure out what possible scheme has Jon come up with and as soon as Jon says "Leviathan" he drops his head 😂The entire conversation between Blair, Tom and Jon and Ben's reaction is definitely the funniest moment so far in the BOTC series 😂
P.S. - I'm watching from Old to New so still have a few BOTCs to watch
Always enjoy these. I'm consistently amazed at how 'drunk-scared' (for lack of a better word) the group is. The first thought when someone gets info is 'I'm probably poisoned or drunk' instead of being aware of the possibility but waiting until there's any evidence of misinformation. Like in this, Jon leapt at 'I must be the Lunatic' instead of 'oh cool, we're both good, this is my role' and then having a moment to think.
I'm looking forward to Ken in several games time as well. I think he said in-game that it's what, his 6th game? He comes up with interesting chaos plays but then doesn't seem to have figured out quite what to do once the chaos bomb has gone off, although he's better every time.
I think Adam played quite unsportsmanlike by breaking madness when Ben and Laurie weren't around. An entertaining game though
Tom's mad cackling during the roll call had me WEAK 😂
I mean, this whole episode feels like a perfect moment in time from what I am watching already... gonna enjoy this one...
