I fear stupid good players more than evil players. Some are so dumb
We need a season two (but we need an atheist episode)
When asking yourself: “how much money should I donate for a season 2 of NRB plays BotC?” Your answer should be “a dumptruck full.”
Yes yes yes yes yes
honestly never seen a board game channel crowdfund a series before... kinda feels iffy
Ghost lawyer should be made into a role. Something like: Outsider - You can't nominate/vote until you are dead, then you can nom/vote as if alive
OMG this sounds awesome. I want this character!
One of the Travellers called the Voudon has the power that only the Voudon and the dead can vote and votes don't need a majority to pass. Only alive players can nominate but it is pretty similar to what you were suggesting. It's a cool role
Outsiders getting a bluff so they can avoid dying while still claiming Outsider would be great on its own, the fact its something that also works with a 3f3 a powerful information role might want so that particular outsider could bluff a powerful town the demon wants dead is also great. The sheer passivity of it and its effects on the good team's potential behavior doesn't feel like it belongs on faster highly deadly scripts, but any that want to go slower and might include Legion on it could work out. Spies and Widows are always annoying so we skip over those. Boomdandy getting themselves killed by claiming it and getting executed at their assertion would be hilarious, depending on the fidelity of Goblin rulings a goblin getting themselves hung and only part way into the vote claiming goblin, but before most got to vote etc., could also be Glorious to watch. A good player getting better on their death and not specifically only by demonic hands, gives a demon that claims a one and done power breathing room day one, as either a sacraficial minion (Baron, a self poisoning Widow, or Boomdandy, really are the three most consistent achievers of this) or a true Ghost lawyer taking the hit would be better in the eyes of good than just arbitrarily killing a "spent good," not to mention the minion giving the demon cover if it wasn't one that spawned an outsider until the minion gets outed for suspiciously lacking behavior after death. The way this simple ability is written creates plenty of unique opportunities that would honestly do great in a lot of cases and generate agency in a lot of areas players are currently pigeon holed and trapped in with currently available powers. Thumbs up for good stuff👍
Ghost lawyer should be a television spinoff.
@@midgesmoot1739That theme was a banger. I would definitely give a TV show with that intro song a watch.
"Cut to a dumptruck of money."
Absolutely _brilliant_ bit of improv from Adam, holy cow. Really sad it didn't count
It was only because Ken was dead during the night
I love the mezepheles so much. I wish we could see it more often
Would have been so much more fun had it worked.
Fair play to him for being willing to join Laurie's team
I feel like it should've worked, we've seen that gossips still apply during the night if the gossip dies since the gossip is said while they're alive, why does the mezepheles word not work during the day?
The redemption of Jon Gracie! He absolutely called the game, didn't have a meltdown, didn't doubt his info, and cut through evil's BS by being assertive. Finally we see the master werewolf take the stage. Bravo!
Yeah, this was peak Jon. Terrifically played!
A Jon meltdown is always appreciated tho
Jon and Dan absolutely smashed this one
The editing is always exquisite, but the wide cut to reveal Dom burping, immensely pleased with himself, while Sully and Carley are having an intense chat is truly a god tier choice. Phenomenal.
Immensely pleased with himself 😅
1:10:30 XD
The way Adam integrated dumptruck in that sentence was genius; it was hilarious, in the moment, and something EVERYONE would glance over
Why didn't he switch over? Confused is he only allowed to be evil as Ken is alive? He should have switched.
@@Gadg3t_01 It requires the Mezepholes to be alive in the Night phase, as the switch happens at Night.
@@Gadg3t_01 The Mezepheles' power (essentially) only converts on their turn in the night order, which is effectively the first turn but other weird cases like Amne could go before it. Killing them the day before the night their power triggers will prevent the conversion; if the Mezepheles power worked only during the day, the storytellers would be forced to tell the converted immediately and not in the night. The only way to make it so converted are told in the night is to make the conversion only happen at night, and that fundamentally means it must be after the Mezepheles could be killed during the day and thus preventing that activation as we saw in the video, as the Mezephales must be alive when their power activates for it to work. The conversion power only activating at night also means it only checks in the night, and thus the moment in the day that could trigger it is kept in memory and does nothing until called for, and a dead Mezephales cant call for it as it cant check if dead.
Ben has described the qualities of Dead players before; I interpret these sayings as a player that is actually dead is effectively stripped of their power that works when alive and the power losing that quality of "being in the game", with on death abilities being an exception as they specifically dont work when alive and then activate only after death, and Pit Hag being able to not trigger due to a dead player having a power due to Shabaloth and Scientist shenanigans creating the chance of doubles when their explicitly shouldnt be living doubles of some roles. Farmer works due to being experimental, the Farmer, and that its not like say Dreamer or something getting doubled, just a role balanced around multiples of it getting that.
@@casualmarkit9969 thanks makes more sense now -- so many aspects to this game.
Ken set him up for it perfectly as well, with the ‘you won jane’ monologue he quoted featuring ‘you have all the grace of a reversing dumptruck without any tyres on’
Vizier was absolutely MADE for Laurie. Such a great vid, excited for the next season which I have no doubt we will meet the goal for considering how great this one was
the pure aura of smug evilness just suits him so well
I was so sure at the beginning of the episode he would win with this one. Alas.
Really happy to see Laurie in his element, wielding power over life and death. Well deserved, mate!
And he somehow still lost 😂
@@beastunleashed657 Still, in his element
Finally, a game where the win was worked out and based on info and they didn’t follow one persons view. MVP of game to Jon and Dan for sticking to what they believed. Also Laurie was the best person to play vizier, a really entertaining role can’t wait to see in future games!
Yes, it was delicious to watch. I confess I got a little bit frustrated by Sully (I love you, Sully) not trusting his info enough, following the "Carly was saved by the Tea Lady" worldview instead of "Carly is the leech that's why I read two evil players and died as soon as I told Carly my role" worldview. Bless his Innocence lol
@@rafaelchampion yeah, Carly did well to remain undetected as long as she did, she's so good at the game it's almost frustrating to watch because she's so believable and can easily sway the whole group!
Yes!! Carley is so good at this game, but her evil tell is her need to control the conversation. Any time she talks rings around the rest of them, its so obvious that she's evil and it's sometimes frustrating that they haven't picked up the tell yet haha Felt vindicating to see Jon and Dan work it out
Great series all the same!
@@rafaelchampion there’s ALWAYS some vital early game piece of info that the group forget. Sully, you got a bloody 2! Ben: "We'll just give Adam the role the minion bluffed as."
Ken: "No, I don't think you will."
@@darkwanderer1965 and Rosie...
I truly believe Ken can make a game of chutes and ladders end in chaos.
I thought it would have been more fun if he actually played the game.
Whilst it should be said that Carly played really, really well in a very tough situation, especially when she was hacked into a corner, Jon played an absolute BELTER of a game this session.
SPOILERS
Considering how Dan seemed to struggle quite a bit in earlier episodes trying to wrap his head around all the complex systems and bluffs going on in this game (which I don't blame him) it was genuinely really nice seeing his face light up near the end with same kind of satisfaction as one does when completely figures out for instance a complex math problem before everyone else.
But whoooboy was my butthole clenched the whole way through the final day. At first I was little confused on why Carley didn't kill Laurie based on what Ben said earlier about not leaving confirmed evil players on the final day but then I realised her real plan was probably the whole way through to just convince Sully to use his ghost vote on Jon which would have allowed Laurie to make votes on Brooke completely irrevelant. It didn't help that the group realised that danger only at the very last second.😂
Usually it seems better to nominate 2nd on the last day, because people want to hear both cases and you need a majority. People may save their dead votes on the first vote. But in this case since you only need one good vote for Laurie to pass it, I really think Carley should've nominated first. All she needs is a single vote.
Also a good Carley never makes that 2nd nomination. If Brooke was the wrong kill Laurie would've out it through. Once he doesn't you just have to leave that choice. Carley even said as much BEFORE nominating, because she had no other chance to win without nominating. But she knew the play made no sense if she was good. Which is just another reason she needed to nominate first. (Totally using hindsight here though. She was hoping good would change their mind before they nominated, but it seemed very unlikely.)
"hello, lil brooke!"
"hello, regular-sized adam"
i love brooke so much LOL
Can I get a timestamp?
I've only just noticed this the second time watching, but what great sportsmanship from Dan after the game ends. Instead of celebrating with the rest of the good team, he goes out of his way to walk to the other bench to shake Carley's hand. Lovely gesture.
Just started the video but I’m excited to see how Adam uses sound logic to latch onto the completely wrong conclusion.
I was just happy to see Laurie have a smile on his face the entire time with his role.
I've backed and I doubled my pledge; that's how much I want this to happen!!! Full season 2 baby, everyone get on board!

From the moment Laurie drew the Vizier token I was was both excited for such a perfect character to fatefully nuzzle itself within his palm, but I was also mournful for what would be the Evil Team's inevitable loss. Laurie can only win with Christmas juju.
Thank you for putting on this series. It is truly so much fun to get a chance to watch this. Let's go Season 2!
They really did save the best one 'till last, what a game
Also - shoutout to every member of the crew during that credits sequence, thank you for being the unsung heroes that brought us these great adventures
Idk, to me it wasn't as much of a photo finish as some other episodes. Losing team needed a miracle to win there
I LOVE Laurie in this episode. He's absolutely hilarious and actually really strong plays!
Laurie’s play to execute his own demon on day one is one of the best plays I’ve seen.
Phenomenal job by Jon, Dan, and Brooke this game
I love how Adam gave Ken a bluff and Ken just went with it, very well done.
After countless failed convictions in previous games, Jon finally leads his team to victory with a stunning deduction.
@@kloaf1131 I now it's been a long time lol but think it WAS probably wrong, if I remember correctly. She was arguing it was a puka, but at least Adam got true info before he died (Dan as seamstress), and Brooke gossiped that it was a puka with no effect. So the only way Carley's theory stans is if both of them are evil with Laurie and Jon (so a team of four), but that would mean Ken is good and Adam guessed his role correctly out of the blue and withouth any hints. Of course this would need a lot of tracking and remembering which would've been difficult while playing instead of watching like me. Another option would've been that Sully just believed his darn info which was strongly reinforcing Jon and Dan's world view.
@@kloaf1131 That's what makes them deductions, hardly anything in BOTC is ever provably true.
Had to pause the video at "you've won Jane" because I knew exactly what Ken was trying to do and was so shocked at it. Wow.
@@11th-lemon That's bloody genius, it was the set up for Adam to naturally put 'dumptruck' into the conversation.
Kudos to Mr Layton. He got the best info first night, backed up by both pings essentially outing themselves immediately, and kept that logic the whole way through.
And Carleys face getting the Demon token as last pick is a whole mood 😂

Great for both NRB and the Pandemonium Institute to have NRB showcase the new roles (since, spoiler alert, the new roles were coming out anyway). I already can't WAIT for NRB to show off the pure chaos monke, the Organ Grinder. :3
They've actually already played a Patreon game with the Organ Grinder, and I definitely recommend it if you can afford it - It's a good one. /shill

I'm surprised that no one accused Carley of not being the Sailor by virtue of her not drinking with Laurie. If you know who one of the evil team is, why wouldn't you repeatedly drink with them to make them drunk, or at least save town from being drunk? Potentially stopping a Vizier-force could have been huge. In my view, that's the most suspicious thing she did.
Poor Laurie, he played an absolute blinder, but there just wasn't enough juice. Ken swiping the noble bluff from Adam and then giving CORRECT info was also a great move, and did a lot to pull Ken back into respectability.
I really want to give props to Dan, though. Not only did he and Jon solve the game, but when everyone was celebrating joyfully, he came over to Carley and still put her over as playing a good game, which, minor sailor/vizier nitpick aside, she did. Just good sportsmanship and emotional intelligence. I think Carley's rep can put an unfair and unrealistic amount of pressure on her, and she can become visibly frustrated in games she loses. While I think it's admirable how she's mature enough to keep that frustration to herself, it also sucks to see her torture herself. In another universe without a Dan, poor Carley is stewing off to one side while everyone crows and dances around her, and that's a crummy feeling. Good on Dan for thinking to include her.
I think the defence there is "ST will just make me drunk every time."
I was thinking the same thing. So suspicious to claim to drink with the gambler instead of the outed evil. But I think she was doing that so that she could pretend that some of Brooke's gambles were untrustworthy because of her choosing her. (for example, trying to keep other demons as possibilities for as long as possible)
Actually I just thought of another 100% slip up too with her final story of who she was drinking with each night. One of the nights she claimed to have drunk with Jon (2 nights before Jon first got info) Brooke gambled that the demon was on her side of the town square. So therefore there should've been 2 deaths if Carley wasn't the demon. That basically 100% outs her as the demon in any world to Brooke by the end when she clearly hasn't been puckered, and then because Carley is so clearly pushing a Jon execution way more than Brooke it outs who is the host too.
It just happened in my watch so I don't know how this ends, but I couldn't help but notice Carley describing her Sailor bluff to Tilly and Sully as picking someone and 'poisoning them' instead of making them drunk. Could be dismissed, but the Lleech poisons, so maybe a slip up?
Poison and drunk are essentially the same status effect, so yeah it could be easily dismissed since Drunk is also a role (who is 200% drunk)
I think it's likely a slip up. Carley is a really good player and if she were the sailor I don't think she'd say poison instead of drunk
50:35-50:55 this is the moment that Tilly released the world that Carly could have been the Leech. She was so trusting Carly and Sully at that point, Jon for the MVP on that one.
42:23 Laurie and Brooke peak Team Rocket energy
What an incredible season. Thank you so much for all of it NRB and TPI!
Also love the shots of the crew at the end of the video! The heroes that keep the show running!

And, like, because the content is good also.
dont normally rewatch things like these but coming back around after seeing the playlist and getting to know the cast. think it makes it a lot better
We've graduated from "Laurie's my demon" to "everyone's Laurie's demon". The NRB Clocktower lore progression accelerates so fast! 😂
I need a season 2! Which is why I've backed the Kickstarter 😁Only the lowest $50 tier, as I can't *responsibly* afford to back more than that (I am financially capable of *irresponsibly* backing more than that, I guess...) but hopefully it helps! Looks like you're nearly at 50% of the four-episode goal after less than a day, so YAY! 🙂
And I wrote that before learning of the season 2 gimmick! A new, custom character, made especially for the NRB crew, in every episode? PEOPLE, PLEASE, THROW YOUR MONEY AT THIS LIKE I DID! 😂 (I'm kidding; don't donate if you can't afford to... but if you can, please do, as I want this so bad!)
i know on the Are You Evil podcast, adam mentioned wanting a 'story' through the BOTCT episodes to play out - i definitely think this satisfies multiple endings. laurie getting to be openly evil for one - if i didn't know better, i would swear he was manually assigned vizier. for jon, who a lot of people have been incessantly mocking for less than stellar plays (especially during the legion game), to step up and solve the game - and for the 'champion' and ultimate evil/demon carley to finally be toppled by a final application of trust and teamwork even while she was playing incredibly well for her circumstances. couldn't have asked for a better final episode and i hope everyone at nrb is satisfied with the way the storylines ended. im definitely hoping that season 2 goes ahead and will be scrounging up the cash to at least get the early access to the episodes, but if it doesn't go through - it'll be sad to see botct leave the channel, but i'm glad it ended on this note.
Definitely a redemption game for Jon. He played really well as Long and for once trusted the exact right people

I feel like Carly left her minions, especially Ken out to dry. He got no bluffs no info just left in the room alone with the known evil person. With no info all they could do is chaos but easily dismissed chaos. She seems like a very solo player especially with the taking over maras demon game

I found that Carlie basically dug her own grave by "targeting" Brook and John as sailor when "targeting" Laurie would be the wisest choice, particularly near the end where ST may very well "sailor drunk" the Vizier the longer the game goes on to give players a chance to kill him... that way they could've sunk a towns kill on someone who's likely killable.
Tough game for Lleech though.
As ST, I probably would always drunk a sailor targeting an Outted evil like that
@@Moleoflands I would, depending on the balance of power allow the sailor to drunk one who's unkillable like the Vizier on select days, because it's a gamble for the players if the Vizier or Sailor is drunk, and it's can't be tested more than once a day.(and the sailor can't verify who's drunk)
@@DKannji Sailor's drunkenness is meant to be a consequence of having a powerful ability, not a targeted power.
The only circumstances I would allow it in a game like this is if the sailor was the only good alive against 3 evils
@@Moleoflands I would say that you can try to leverage your sailor drunkenness. Using it to try and disrupt an evil player should be a valid tactic.
@@DKannji maybe. But drunkenness from sailor is intended as a drawback, not a benefit. It would be like Bounty hunter some how making a klutz evil and klutz choosing a evil player, so good wins or something. Bounty hunter making a player evil is meant to be a drawback

And there's also the correct role given on Brooke to the dreamer who should have been Pukka poisoned. Which isn't impossible, but would be odd unless Brooke was evil. And if Brooke and John are evil together then Carley would have died in the night on final four (remember sailor is no issue for a Pukka, since they die poisoned).
What a fitting end to the series to have it be the best game of the series! Massive congratulations to the good team who finally managed to see through master bluffer Carley's tall tale!
This was wonderful! Talk about going out with a bang. As soon as I get paid I will go to the kickstarter, I need more BOTC in my life!
Thank you all again for this series and all of the BOTC entertainment xxx
When Laurie pulled the Vizier.... just magic
Just looking at the roles I can already tell this is going to be an incredible final episode.
Its amazing how Carley controls her interrogators. Nobody stopped to ask her "How many times in a row did she drink with Jon?" She just went with a vague "I drank with Jon until he would've gotten info" without specifying days because at that point she knows her lie doesn't hold water
@@kloaf1131 but her lie required the STs to make the demon drunk in the very late game, after a sailor already survived execution
I think she does a good job of acting exactly like a Sailor would in that situation, while still being vague enough that her story maybe could be true. Focusing on the key moment to switch rather than counting days is fully legit.
@@kloaf1131 her story with the days drinking was predicated on her being made drunk all of the days she was drinking with Jon, which would have meant that kills were going off still. There's no way the storytellers would make a sailor drunk over the demon for nights in a row unless evil REALLY needed it, yes Ken was dead but they had the Vizier who can basically push anything through if good votes, no way they were on the back foot, so they would have realised that and Carley was a bit too focused on trying to get that view out there.
Honestly I think Carley's bluffs could have worked with another team but Dan and Jon stood together, Sully got information that Carley was evil very early and hence lying (meaning her story can be disproved unless he was made drunk that night, where Carley insisted she only drank with Brooke and Jon) and Carley was clearly starting to focus Jon after the not killing the Vizier play so good would vote hence allowing Laurie to force the execution.
She even said herself that she only switched from drinking with Jon when he was about to get info, which is suspicious if she really believed he was the Pukka, you wouldn't stop trying to block the demon just on a whim that they'd get info (which hints you know they aren't the role they claimed)
Idk just my idea on it but there were little things that disproved her
@@wulfricr7635 The idea that Jon was the Pukka only started to be considered after the King would have been triggered. Since in that hypothetical Carley would still choose someone she thought to be a king, her story would make sense. The issue isn't that she claimed to switch at just the right moment, it's that Brooke gossiped that the demon was sat on her side during a time that Carley claimed to be drinking with Jon and, as she clearly didn't die to a Pukka, that meant it had to be Carley.
Awesome series, thank you so much guys! Never have I so quickly backed a kickstarter in my life. Looking forward to the next (fingers really tightly crossed!)
Appreciated the screen time for the behind the scenes crew, teamwork makes the dream work! Or nightmare in this case, I suppose.
Wow, what an absolutely fantastic crescendo to this series. Well done all
Man just watching you all do this 1:53:55 after a feature length video 6 more times is well worth the money, let alone with brand new mechanics.
Vizier was literally made for Laurie and I love it.
'What is this play?' This play is Laurie enjoying being openly evil and chaotic. And you can't even execute him to take him out of it.
Ken just outright TELLING Adam his word and fishing for a conversion that way. Wooow. And Adam is so anguished about it.
Though with Ken dying before that could ever happen, it's kinda sad really. Not only because they set that one up oh-so nicely. No one would have noticed.
Oh no, and Adam thinks he LIED to him. Love it.
The best thing about Laurie saying that the baddies are Ken and Brooke is that killing Brooke would have solved the game. So, while she wasn't evil, she was vital to the evil team.
'I nominate my evil twin, Dan.' And everyone is so suprised, and Adam just goes 'Oh yeah, surprise.' That would have been a hilarious play! Just go and swing out of left field on the thrid damn day.
Jon worked it out beautifully in the end though. Go and dooo ittt.
This is amazing. I love it. I really like the dynamic the Vizier adds to the game.
I really want to see Season 2 so bad. Please!
Bravo! Bravo! Congrats to all players and crew for such a lovely production. Can’t wait for season 2
Please do online games. I can't wait 9 months. You guys are the only ones doing games in good quality. Even the online games are better than other people's in-person games
This is one of the best ones ever! Laurie is having the best time.
I felt so bad for Carley in the end. She was trying so hard, but I guess that was just Ken, Kenning it.
The main reason is because it's a leech game and with a live Vizier, its hard to get people to vote wrongly.
Kind of no outs and killing Vizier just confirm Leech
Yup, Ken Kenned it
Ken was definitely Kenning. But also, Gracey was ruthless, and had her bang to rights :)
@@yugiwinninglex killing Vizier doesn’t always confirm leech. Killing Vizier before final 3 is a good call for any demon. For a normal demon, you want 2 other viable demon candidates rather than just 1. Same as wanting 2 leech host possibilities instead of 1. Carly made a good play there not killing Vizier and sinking a kill cuz trying to get 1 good vote on Jon and forcing it through was the only Hail Mary option for evil. But in general demon will kill their own Vizier eventually no matter what kind of demon they are
It looks like they filmed the whole series in one day, so I think she was just tired. If anything, it should flatter her to know that she needs to be absolutely wrecked tired for them to beat her haha
I’m gonna go back and re-watch the other 5 BOTC vids now! They’re all just so good! Laurie wins MVP this time🏆!!! Runner up goes to Dan & Jon for sticking together and staying the course🏅. Honorable mention goes to Adam for d*mn near immediately switching teams🎗, that’s my boy!😁
seeing everyone excited about winning is the sweetest thing
Such a great way to end the season! I'll be backing the second season for sure.
