This video is PART 2 of my first z parts reveal video! As stated in the video- I have NEVER driven a vehicle with an aftermarket intake but boy did the 280zx need it! Small upgrades like spark plugs, spark plug wires and a newer intake honestly made more of a difference than I would have originally thought.

Ha, same here about the sound on my ZX when I upgraded to a CAI, was definitely let down when I didn't hear a difference but of course there should be a slight performance increase so that's the plus.

Looks like your shifts are getting better and better! Glad to see you winding out those RPM’s!
See if you can predict when you're going to shift and begin moving your hand over to the shifter JUST BEFORE you need to shift. You can listen to the engine wind up, when you get close to the shift point, start moving your hand. One other tip about a manual, if you need more power, you can "grab a gear"... "Grab a gear" means down shift one gear so that you have more torque. So if you're trying to pass someone in 3rd gear, go to 2nd gear for a second then go back to 3rd (depending on where the RPMs are at). Practice this a lot and you'll get used to it.

Heyy! Fellow 280ZX owner here, just subbed your channel! If you want the honest truth, a (clean) stock intake on a 280ZX will consistently make several more hp than aftermarket CAI's on the dyno. If you look at how well it's designed it makes sense, the stock filter is massive. What I would recommend for starting your build is longtube headers and a high flow exhaust with cat-delete. The L28 LOVES headers and sounds badass with a cat-delete. After that, focus on your suspension and tires before bumping up the hp further. I completed my suspension mods and upgrades this year, so if you need any advice on that let me know, I also have made some 280ZX mod/upgrade videos on my channel which could help give you some ideas!
In most cases a CAI won’t increase hp. It’s noisy because the air is rammed through a straight tube, not going thru a stock intake manifold meant to quiet the noise. Noise doesn’t always mean increased hp
You go Sarah! I didn't notice much of a difference on my Subaru until after a couple weeks with my pod filter. It's like the car had to adjust to it first before I noticed a real difference.
While editing I thought “do I notice a difference or did I just get more confident in my driving” 😂😂😂

Swap the belt driven radiator fan for an electronic fan. Will free up power and quiet all that air noise you hear. Seriously worthwhile upgrade for older cars

The reason you aren't hearing much induction sound from the intake is because your fan clutch is stuck and spinning way to fast drowning out the sound lol. If you replace that, fan noise will be way quieter and you'll really hear the intake.
How can you tell this without seeing anything on the engine? Genuinely asking
@@SenCityOfficial If it makes sense, the fan itself is supposed to stop gaining speed after around 2200 RPM. So no matter how much higher the engine is revving, the fan has to stay at that speed by design. Otherwise the centrifugal force can wear out the bearing on the water pump (Where the fan attaches). It sounds to me like the fan is staying in sync with the engine speed way above 2200. Sounds like a hairdryer on steroids when you do accelerate hard right? You cant physically see this because the fan spins no matter what. Its all in the sound. One way to tell other than this, is to try and turn the fan with your hand with the engine off and cold. If it feels really stiff, the clutch is sticking. It happened to my car last year. If it helps, I can dm you a before and after vid of my car on instagram. Hope this helps!
Sarah, you got to eventually learn how to Heel and toe downshift. I mean not now but sometime in the future, it helps keep a longer life for the transmission.
That is true. Atleast for me in my 280zx I find it hard though because I wear a size 13 shoe and the pedal box is kinda small...

you should get alot more from an exaust now that the air isnt restricted from entering, it made little diffrence right now because it can inhale but it cant exhale.

I love the 280ZX and I’m inclined to suggest keep to the spirit of the car; this is a GT and not a sports car like the 280z before it. As for engine mods, if this is the NA L28 and not the L28T motor - the one with the turbo - that would be where I start and done right you could maybe get 200bhp, which would be an absolute blast in such a light car. Better still, if the mechanicals are good, I’d probably sort out the interior, any rust, body, maybe brakes, etc, before moving to the performance improvements. This will give you the opportunity to drive the car and get a feel for it before any major changes.

IDK where you live but is there any worry about rain getting in the intake. It probably doesn't matter if you are in California or something.

Cold air doesn’t make any difference, it just lets the engine breathe easier when you have a bigger exhaust or turbo etc

Well I dont know how far in the future you plan to engine swap, look into headers they really make the engine come alive I got mine from MSA the Z store good place.
I appreciate this. I’m honestly extremely anxious to swap it. But I currently have a engine swap jar that I’m saving my money for it in lmao so we will see

@@kermieflo4125 I did too. When i got my 280zx i wanted to do a swap then after a compression test i decided to keep it. It still has a long life. One thing that should be done regardless a swap or not is rust removal

@@neocerebus yeah man. L series engines are like a dying breed because people been engine swapping Z's for some time. I love mine tho even though it's just 1.8 4 Cylinder, it's screams like a agitated bee hive lol
