But yeah, basically this is the ongoing struggle for anyone who was left in Ithaca. They are all waiting for their loved ones to return home, but in the end it’s only Odysseus’s family that hold out hope for his return

The saddest part is how Polites and Odysseus's mother don't even notice him, like they're trapped in one moment for ever. I knew it wasn't going to be a happy reunion, but this is worse than I thought. This is even worse than if they had gotten angry and blamed him for their deaths.
Yeah, the dead in the Underworld can't community/see the living without drinking a sacrificial blood.
According to Jorge, in his version, the spirits are repeating their last thoughts before they died.

This hit hard for me cuz i was supposed to go home for Christmas in 2012 but couldn't afford it. So i planned a summer trip in 2013 to make up for it. I was two weeks away from going home when my dad unexpectedly passed away. TWO. WEEKS. Unlike Odysseus, i had called home the day before so i got to hear him one last time but still... that feeling of being so close and still missing the mark... 💔💔💔
