    In Jan 2012 my hair broke off down to the scalp bc I used a out of date color I purchased from Wal-Mart. So I basically had to start from scratch. I was wearing a ponytail and decorative scarves on my head. I don't care how much oil you slather on your head, you still have to open the cuticle of hair shaft with heat. I'm not against oil but use ,natural like jojoba,avocado,almond Shea, etc.But hair growth start from within . It has a lot to do with what you eat, cleansing like your liver when the blood is cleansed it can properly nourish the hair. If your body is toxic nothing grows. You have to give it the best. Also nutrients are a plus like Chinese herbs, bao shin, ho Zhou wu, msm w/ vitamin c, biotin, silica, horsetail, vitamin a, collagen, hylauronic acid, acid balanced shampoo for your hair not a alkaline which is a mistake a lot of ppl make bc of the silky feel. That's a no no . Also what's great is to trim your ends on the new moon for long hair and full moon for thick. My hair is slightly past my collar bone due to the fact that I have a long neck and ultra thick hair.People always give me. compliments on how pretty, thick and long it is. I noticed when my hair started growing back my ponytail was short yes bc of my thick hair. If you're on meds or doing drugs your hair might not grow as fast bc of the chemicals in your system. I'm not talking about dreadlocks and weed. Overall , your hair growth depends on you and if your hair is thick, that's bc it's more dense and will appear shorter than someone with thin hair. We have all hair types, not nappy hair just dry hair, coiled, z pattern s pattern loose wave it's still hair and Yahweh created us unique individuals. It took me time to realize that, it called acceptance what I cannot change I make the best of what I have.. Oh one more thing essential oils help oxygenated the cells and help hair growth such as basil, lavender, cypress, rosemary, sage, hyssop, Lemmon, ylang ylang, grapefruit and ginger to name a few. I hope this was helpful to those on their journal.

    Real talk: I don't know WHAT the point is of having waist length hair if you're going to wear it in a bun, braids, weaves or wigs (as another video suggested). Why bother?? So you can SAY you have waist length hair? What is this obsession? Better to have shoulder length hair that you can actually wear out and enjoy. Hell, even short hair, if it's healthy, is so much better than restricted, hidden hair of any length. That's just my opinion, but I think we Black women need to keep our eyes on a different prize. That being, loving what we HAVE instead of coveting or faking something we don't.

      I happen to like wearing my hair in braids. Whatever length ones hair is braids are beautiful.

    • @chrisallen1934
      @chrisallen1934 9 лет назад +7

      +tequilashots875 I agree that braids are beautiful, but I'm troubled by the obsession with "waist length hair." Healthy and happy hair is way better than super long hair. I was trying to say that being happy with whatever length your hair is at its best is better than struggling for something that's so hard to achieve.

    • @tequilashots875
      @tequilashots875 9 лет назад +2

      +chris Allen I agree with you wholeheartedly. I don't get the obsession with waist length hair either. you can't do anything with it. I rather shoulder length hair that I can do various styles in.

      @MimiNwabuokuMD 9 лет назад +6

      +chris Allen I concur. I want to enjoy my hair and glory in its beauty regardless of its current length. I fail to see how I would be able to enjoy waist length hair ( or shoulder length or hip length or whatever the case might be) if I found myself feeling constrained to keep it all hidden away for the most part. Where's the pleasure of that?

    I wouldn't say washing your hair once a month is a bad thing. It just depends on your hair type and what your hair can and cannot handle. With that being said, even washing too much or not enough can be both damaging. Great video by the way!

    All I did was went natural, and wash my hair every month sometimes every two months, and deep conditioner my hair or sometimes a leave in, clip my ends every six months and my hair is growing like crazy. All this you're telling these people isn't necessarily. But thanks for your time going out your way to try others. May God bless you for it.

      I can not wash my hair once a month, my scalp would smell sour. I have Type 2 Wavy Fine Hair. I shampoo my hair every week, 52 times a year. I only use
      natural products. I do Deep Conditioning every week. I clip my ends every 4 months. I'm growing out my 1/2 inch Pixie Cut from 2016. Then I went to a DevaChan and cut it back down in 2017. So, now my hair is 11
      inches long. When I cut my hair for my Pixie, it was 21 inches long. It should shouldn't take me long to grow it back.
      My hair grows a 1/2 inch a month. It was always so expensive to keep a Pixie Cut. I have to go back every two weeks to maintain the shape😒

    I just removed my weave, and relaxed it and saw this crunchy, afro ball of fur that's been there since the age of 5, I decided that if I want long hair, I have to stop wearing weaves to improve it's growth and follow your tips, I just really hope that it reaches at least to my neck so I can have hope in having long hair again.

      Please buy the book The Science of Black Hair or you can watch my review of the Science of Black Hair - How to Take Care of Weaves & Braids. The book is worth every dime. Her tips on weaves are 100% on point. I wore a weave for a good 8 years and never had thinning edges and grew my hair to armpit length. There are lots of rules you have to follow. My hair is Brastrap length now. I hope it helps you achieve your hair goals.

      Girl! I LOVVVVVEEE the book. I followed all the scientific advise and now my hair is really thriving. I was stuck at a plateau for a while bcuz I was doing a random hair regimen and randomly trying products. Now, that I know how to read the labels and understand what the ingredients will do to my hair I have finally pushed past my plateau. My hair is the longest and thickest it has EVER been in my ENTIRE LIFE! :-)

      I had the braid weave in my hair once and it took out the back of my hair. I'm never getting them again. I usually get my hair pressed with a hot comb, flat iron, or Dominician blow out (which is very hot on the scalp, makes you want to jump out the chair, but is very healthy for your hair and makes it look gorgeous). I have never had any chemicals in my hair, 100% natural, but when I get a Dominician blow out, it looks like I have a relaxer. For some people, weave grows your hair, but it breaks out mine. I have shoulder length hair, but I am only 12. My mom has waist legnth hair, but she also has a relaxer. Her tip is (will work for people with chemicals in their hair and natural) is that you have to have a hair dresser with a good attitude, good life, and won't be scissor happy. Have a nice day everyone!

    As for trims, I typically trim every 4 months or twice a year. If you do healthy hair care practices, you probably won't have to trim your hair much. Since you are trying to retain as much as length as possible, I recommend you keep your ends hidden and tucked away, keep them moisturized, and restrict your heat use to once or twice a month. This will help you keep the trimming to its minimum. If you need more help, feel free to PM me. Thank you for subscribing. :)

    Great question. It can be depending on how much manipulating you are doing. Try not to use combs or brushes everyday but maybe every other day if need be. Try to use your fingers instead. Re-doing your bun everyday is fine as long as you are being gentle with your hair.

    Thank for the vid. These are constructive tips, but they don't scratch the surface of actual methods for growing hair. Essentially your info is based upon how to care for your hair (and possibly maintain the length). Most folks are seeking ACTUAL ways to GROW their hair. We've seen tons of videos on how to care for our hair. But that doesn't necessarily mean that the hair will grow any longer. It's my understanding that what goes in must come out i.e. the nutrients that you take will give much more aid to growing our hair - provided we're healthy.

    Hey girly. I suggest to oil that part of your scalp every other day with some castor oil to help promote noticeable hair growth to that area. Do not under any circumstances put weave in your hair while trying to grow the edges back . Refrain from manipulating that area as much as possible. Brushes, gels, and can slow down the progress. I hope that is enough to help you get on the right track.

    The best moisturizer for 4c hair is water,conditioner and DAX AND THE YELLOW SHEA BUTTER I grew my 4c/4D hair to 19 inches with DAX AND SHEA BUTTER. Oil is NOT FOR 4C HAIR IT MAKE YOUR HAIR VERY DRY AND IT DOESN'T HOLD MOISTURE FOR VERY LONG, OILS WORK BETTER IN TYPE 3 HAIR OR 4A HAIR BUT 4B/4C/4D STAYS MOISTURIZED WITH DAX NOT BLUE MAGIG DAX.

      Your hair is growing Sweety, you just probably have some breakage at the end. Keep you hair moisturized every day. You can just spray water on your plaits and seal it with olive oil. Snip splits ends when you see them.

    It's funny you should mention shampooing your hair once/week, when I just saw a few videos where it was said once/mth is the best way to go (just rinsing in-between with ACV or co-washing). Personally I prefer once/wk, to get rid of product build-up etc.

      Really i think its a personal preference thing, neither is wrong nor right. We just have to see what works best for us, some people use more product, some people sweat more and might need to wash more often....some people dont :) No head of curly hair is exactly like another.....do you

    Hey. I'm sorry to hear this. I suggest you talk to your mom and tell her exactly how you feel about her using so much heat. No, weave does not grow your hair. Your hair automatically grows but you have to take very good care of it to retain all of your length.

    You don't sound stupid. Sew-Ins are trickier when it comes to the LOC method. You would probably just have to spritz a moisturizing mixture into your roots. Something that contains a liquid, oil and cream all in a spray bottle. If you have a leave-out that would be the easiest section to do the LOC method on. Otherwise, you may have to wait until you take the sew-in out to use the true LOC method.

    At least once a week. Maybe twice if your hair really needs it. I stuck with once a week myself.

    I was below my bra strap, but now I'm a little above it, I had some split ends from lack of taking care of my hair the last few months. So I had 4 inches cut off and ready to get back to doing my routines. So I can get back to below bsl, I am aiming for wl by the end of 2014. Thanks for the tips, and hairlista is a great start for help. =)

    Hi longNhealthy, I'm new to your channel and I was wondering if you have any tips for growing out your edges? I took at my sew in a few weeks ago and I lost a lot of hair around my hair line and I really want it to grow back fast. Also how often do you trim your hair? I usually get a trim only when I go to the salon to relax my hair ever 2-3 months. My hair is currently neck length but I want to grow my hair out. Do u think I should stop cutting my hair altogether to retain length?

My hair is real actively thick everywhere except that section. I've started using doo growth thick oil but I'm seriously getting discouraged :/

    Love this! #10 is my #1 tip. May I ask, how often you use a comb in your hair?

    • @longandhealthy
      @longandhealthy  11 лет назад

      I try to limit a comb to wash days. So maybe once or twice a week.

    • @longandhealthy

      Try deep conditioning your hair once week while moisturizing and sealing every night. I deep condition my hair once a week in sections and leaving it on my hair for an hour under a plastic cap.

    How long did it take you to achieve waist length hair?

  • @dnvrmom
    @dnvrmom 10 лет назад

    Love your videos - and am so glad I found you! I would die for your hair, but genetically, it's just not possible. I am so desperate to connect with someone who will respond to my problem. I have just ordered some of the products you use and am already using others, but I continue to lose hair - suddenly. I have so many "nearly bald" spots, I can't do anything but try and flat iron the top of my hair for some kind of style and leave the back alone. A wig is something I just can't do. I'd give anything just to have the amount of hair I did in this photo just 3 months ago. I made the mistake of trying WEN, but not for long. In Sept I had scalp surgery to remove cysts. I already had a weak spot on the left near my ear. When my scalp was nearly healed, I had a Design Essentials relaxer and it appears to have taken out tons of hair - especially in the weak area and around the injured areas. I've always loved that perm. Can you recommend another one? With my genetically weak hairline and other issues, I look much better with straight hair. I'm combining raw shea, lavender, avocado oil (best discovery ever thanks to a black skin care specialist), jamaican black castor and rosemary. In the dry, high Colorado climate, it barely makes a difference, although my scalp seems healthier. Can you suggest anything? Sorry for the lengthy post. deongillespie@gmail.com
