Late 30’s, early 40’s??? I’m middle 50’s and was 17/18 yrs old when the 205 GTi first appeared and trust me, I wanted one with a passion.
Btw, I have a Miami Blue 1.9 GTi in my garage 👌🙂

Yeah that age range didnt make nuch sense for "buying them when new", perhaps he mentally thought they were at least 10 years or so newer than they are.

Late 30s, early 40s? I had to think on that one. Still remember a shiny cardboard brochure I had on my bedroom desk maybe 1989/1990 & I was 15 or 16. Bought an mx5 about 12mths ago(another childhood dream) hated it & have since sold. I gotta look into the little Pug

Probably shouldn't say that as I know Terry Pankhurst who owns Dimma.

When at Peugeot back in the 2000s, when they pulled the plug on the Ryton Factory (Back in those days cars were pilled up high around a manufacture factory) they did a inventory of what was on site and they discovered a Brand New 205 GTi that had been sitting in the car park for years, clearly missed of a spreadsheet, this was 2006, now that where ever it went would be a collectors item.

The only car better than a 205 GTI is a 309 GTI after all. Only have a regular one, but even that handles and drives better than anything else I've driven. Unfortunately I doubt I'll ever even see a GTI, let alone own one, I own one of 15 309s remaining where I live.

I was lucky enough to have a 1.9GTI that I bought 32 years ago when I was 20 ish, it was the first gen 1987 model. I had it for about 10 years and truly immaculate when I sold it on. I still regret selling it but I did not have the space to keep it. As per the reviews, it was just so tactile and alive to drive, so direct and the throttle response instantaneous. The scare of lift off over steer was not as bad as reported and it was a true 130 mph indicated top speed (of course reputedly 😀).

I bought a secondhand 1988 Renault 5GT Turbo back in 1996 when I was 19. It cost me 90% of my monthly £300 pay packet to own it and a shed load more to keep it on the road. But I cannot complain, I used to drive it between Germany and the UK 3 times a year with little fuss. Okay, once it decided to throw the exhaust down the autobahn and another time the clutch cable snapped at the gearbox/clutch bracket and I repaired it with celotape and drove it over 600 miles home but I really loved that thing. It wasn’t good for me but I loved it. Even looking at videos of one today makes my heart thump. ❤

Interieur can by better is not original what you have in the 205 GTI. The front seats are in mine upion not nice made. They missed the orginal look. But the 205 GTI best car ever, because I have an 205 GTI 1.9 Griffe almost 17 years and stay by me. Can not life with out it 🙂

The Xr ,Xt , Gr and Gt were much more fun to drive than the Gtis ,1.6 Gti was crap ,you had to reset the injection system every time you changed the oil and filter ,worked for peugeot for 30 yrs, just because it’s got Gti on it people wank theirselves silly!. The TU engine was a nice little revvy engine the XU more lumbering and unexciting!.driven all models extensively definitely not impressed with the GTI although the wannabe boy racers and car magazine readers did and still love them!.

One big reason to not buy one: I want one too but my wallet won't like the future price.

No i don't.! Cool car at the time But the 1.9 was hideous to drive round town. Lumpy engine and no power steering, Ok on a run but as an every day driver, No, thank you.
Btw owned about 5 over the years, the 1.6 was the better drive imho.

Great commercial for Tolman, but the original 205 is a dog!

I can give you the biggest reason not to buy one, it’s outrageous price 😂 it’s really not worth it
