For the fingerpickers out there there is also a difference in the width of the neck down the fretboard. The OM has the wider standard taper neck. The 000 has the slimmer high performance taper.
The MDs have the same “vintage deluxe” asymmetric neck
@@JPStarCase No he's right, the OM28 MD only has a different, wider taper to the other modern deluxes.
I’ve played a 000-28 for almost 30 years and love it. This OM sounds amazing. I have to try one!
buy it now!!!
The 000 has the larger pick guard, the om has the smaller pick guard. That's a way to visually designate between the two.
Also don't forget that these guitars have Adirondack bracing with protein glues, and maple binding (D18 has rosewood binding)!
You beat me to it! The OM pickguard is very distinctive
I like everything I've heard in this series!
@@slbolfing56 these are nice guitars
@@slbolfing56 I think it's because the 000, given it's shorter scale length that makes it easier to bend the strings, generally attracts bluesers and guitarists who play with picks to bust out guitar solos. That's why you have a bigger pick guard. The om, on the other hand, is more for fingerstylist, hence the smaller pick guard. The OM28 MD is especially made for the fingerstylist because of the wider string spacing at the bridge.
Listening with good speakers hooked up, the OM has a slightly fuller sound with a little more midrange and bass frequencies. The OOO sounds a little thinner and more trebley.
Went NGD shopping today and was comparing D-18s and J-45s. Back and forth. Preferred the D-18. But coming from a Taylor 712 I wasn’t real comfortable with the bigger body so tried some 000 and OMs. Left with an OM-28. The smaller body but with rosewood got close to the D-18 but with a little more balance and enough warmth. For me, playing soft strumming, arpeggio chords and stuff like Nick drake/isakov/lamontagne/ Clapton acoustic numbers it hit the sweet spot!
Nice! Both sound great in my opinion.
Both sound good but I prefer OM the sound is richer and deeper.
"... little sausages ..." hilarious. Maybe not intended to be but hilarious, especially considering the formality of Andres Segovia's genre.
Both very nice guitars. 000 sounds brighter, OM sounds warmer.
The OM sounds warmer, but all the strumming was done forward center of the sound hole and the OOO was strummed closer to the bridge. Finger style I heard very little difference
Brilliant playing
great!can you please do a video on om28md vs om42?
PPPPLEASE put text on screen of what guitar it is being played
There is text on the screen for the comparison at the end of the video. You can also tell by the Pickguard, teardrop on the OM and standard on the 000.
Play it! Talk after recording...
It's my intention to buy a 000-28/OM-28 in 2021. But I will will reserve judgement until I'm in the store playing them one right after the other...back and forth...until one calls to me.
Tapered neck...made for ease of play...yes I read the brochure..lol
How does this 00028MD compare with 00028ec?
The mighty eric clapton it’s on a whole nother level.I kind of hate all the 000 with their closed sound. But the tone of EC it’s richer, fuller which reminds me almost the sound of a Collings that’s why I like it so much.
xchalibur77 But take a look on the price: 00028ec - $4799, 00028MD - $5199. MD should on a higher level than EC...
I haven't played them back to back, but heard someone else say they bought a 000-28MD bc it sounded better than their EC. Of course, this is all subjective. I've had an EC and thought it was a great guitar, but given both options, I ordered the MD last night. I like what they've done with this one.
EC has heavier bracing
Yeah pretty similar sound, strum position different on chords
What is the fingerboard and bridge material? Not listed in spec on website.
Ebony
in a hands of a pro both guitars will perform its best
I the was a young sting
Sounds like A Collings OM2H now
"Don't know which is which" Please.
Both guitars are compared at the end of the video with onscreen labels but the easy way to tell is the larger pickguard on the 000.... smaller teardrop shaped guard on the OM.
The pickguard on the 000 starts at the top of the soundhole, while the OM pickguard starts halfway down the soundhole.
*I* know the difference between the two, visually and otherwise. The quote was lifted from the video itself. Paul said that Quinton didn't know which guitar was which. The two of them often do this sort of thing often where Quinton (the guitar player) plays dumb about certain aspects of a guitar, and Paul (a drummer) steps in to set Quinton straight. It's annoying and makes Quinton look ignorant when, in fact, he is far from it. For me it takes at least some of the enjoyment out of the demo.
