I wondered why Marcus couldn't just give part of his life but they actually addressed that way back - someone who is terminal like she was would require all the life energy of another to pull them back. If he had not given everything, she would still be dying but with a bit more time before the end. He would have had to have arranged a bunch of people willing to help and even if that occurred to him, it would have taken a lot of time to set up, and time was one thing they didn't have.
"Choosing Ivanova" is unfortunate, because ... [SPOILER] Claudia left the show at the end of the season but Jason would have continued if Marcus had survived. [Dont forget to listen to the audio commentary episodes ... of which there are far too few.]
But it fitted both characters very well. I wouldn't say the new character never fitted into the show, since she is mostly likely one of the main trapdoor prep specifically for Ivanova. It's more correct to say she was never given the enough time to develop.
I always interpreted President Clark's final scene as him being controlled by a keeper. The keeper forced him to turn the defence grid on Earth but Clark sneaked a message through of "Scorched Earth." As we saw with old Londo, the keepers can be tricked by their hosts. We know the keepers were active in Earth space - did they really target just a random resistance fighter? Of course, the interpretation that Clark was a coward and a madman is also a valid option.
The bloodstain on his lower neck gave it away, despite the fact he shot himself in the temple on the other side of his head. Always wondered where the keeper crawled off to avoid detection. At what point did they place it on him?
@@dalewight6623I don't recall any blood stains on his lower neck. My attention was always drawn to the plasma burn on his left cheek and upper neck (from where the shot to the upper right of his skull burned through). I don't have good eyesight though, so I could have easily missed a minor detail.
The idea that if war is horrible then humans won't want to do it... sounds reasonable. But unfortunately history teaches us otherwise. No matter how horrible the war, we humans keep repeating it.
The flower children protested the war in Vietnam. Any American protesting our last drone strike? Does anyone even know it happened? No one cares, because it's not our lives on the line. No one is trying to bring the drone home.
Also, some ship details, just for fun (stats not always consistently listed) Minbari Warcruiser: 1.5-1.6 km; White Star: variable across the show, but usually 100 to 200 metres; Omega destroyer/EAS Agamemnon: 1.717 km. Babylon 5: 8.064 km. Centauri light/Vorchan-class cruiser: 286 to 608 m estimated (depending on scale to fighters, Whitestar and other ships) Centauri heavy/Primus-class: 735 m (in past RPG sources) to 1.56 km. Narn G'Quan class cruiser: 0.8 to 1.4 km, estimated. Minbari fighter: 13 to 24 m, estimated. Vorlon cruiser: 1.3-1.4 km. And finally, Shadow Battlecrab: whatever d*mn size the Shadows want, frankly... (they likely grow, too)
You've been wondering for a while why nobody utilized the alien device? I tend to wonder why the Shadows never made a portable device that would brainwash a person the way their ships do.
I'm actually glad they show a consequence for the alien medical machine - it would be very easy to have it solely have a positive effect every time they use it, and excuse not using it with "oooh but it's baaaad actually" without ever showing us that fact after its introductory episode, thereby turning it into a horrible deux ex machina.
@Nikioko well, I think the problem was she came in to an established show with established characters after the main chunk of the show ended. Tracy Scoggins was a huge fan of the show and she is really fun at conventions afaik. Her character needed more time to be developed, I like her in Crusade though. Season 5 with her is not bad. I enjoy her performance, but she indeed is no Ivanova.
@@Petrosman The problem is that Ivanova not becoming captain of the station and introducing Lochley as a new character created a big break in consistency. When Sinclair was replaced by Sheridan in season 2, it fitted in quite nicely, although this abruptly ended the whole Catherina Sakai plot, who would have had the role of Anna Sheridan somehow. Replacing Talia Winters by Lyta Alexander was just a return to the original plot. Lyta was replaced because Patricia Tallman had other commitments. And to explain why her replacements had augmented telepathic powers, we got the Jason Ironheart plot, which also abruptly stopped, when Talia's personality was destroyed. So, Lyta got her enhancements from the Vorlons. But all in all, the first two replacements in the main cast worked way better than the third one.Lochley being an ex-wife of Sheridan also never quite fitted. You can just imagine how great season 5 must have been if Ivanova ran the station.
@Nikioko yeah but Claudia left the show. And overall it makes sense that in order to mend wounds with Earth over the Civil War there needed to be someone brought in from the other side who Sheridan could trust. Him being married to her was brought up for that reason alone. Yeah sure, it's not perfect, it was JMS's quick try to replace Ivanova, but I don't hate Lochley. She has her moments. I wish we got more of a character development for her, even though we got a lot of it. Crusade should have gone longer.
This episodes a meh in my opinion. I mean, apart from the cool space battles, awesome payoffs and satisfactory ending to the earth civil war. What's to like??😂
Dammit, I cried again, even with it just being a blurred image. Gets me every time.

Glad your new computer is up and working, and we can see the edited version now. A favorite episode of mine! Tops Into the Fire!
Hello to Carolyn Seymour, a real Survivor.
"Choosing Ivanova" is unfortunate, because ... [SPOILER]
Claudia left the show at the end of the season but Jason would have continued if Marcus had survived.

Yes, tragic. This brought us the introduction of an new character which never really fitted into the show.

I think it's more impactful if he's just a typical petty, spiteful little tyrant.
This was my interpretation as well, otherwise writing that sentence over and over just feels out of place.

Just look at what's happening right now in the Middle East.
Because the people who lead us into wars are never the ones who suffer its consequences.

What a great episode ....
Do we really need the east coast?
Mega's reaction to when he finds out Ivanova is going to leave the show by the end of season 4 is gonna be gold.
Unfortunately. I never liked her substitute.

Great Value Ivanova is what I call her.
Finally your new computer works.
Well, how will Ivanova react on Marcus' sacrifice? Considering that she always treated him like shit, and she was everything for him...
Yep war has to horrible to learn a lesson to dictators. Just look at France

I react to it almost weekly. When will the reactions make it from Patreon to RUclips? I have no time frame.
