Wow. There are Centauri ships in that armada! I never noticed that before. Think about it. In what reality did you EVER think you’d see a Centauri warship and a Narn warship ON THE SAME SIDE?!
When I watched this in 1997 here in the UK used to record every episode on VHS, I remember noticing the lone Centauri ship. Almost like it was a token gesture
Also a Vree saucer. No Brakiri or Drazi, though.
@@danielqmul agreed totally a token gesture. I'm sure Londo even had to promise his sixth wife's daughters hand in marriage to the ship captain to even make that happen.

No hesitation… just a solid belief in her commander, in her forces and her mission
Delenn has given some impressive speeches (If you value your lives, be somewhere else; the breaking of the Gray Council; the invitation for Earth to join the alliance) but three simple words shows her true spirit, determination and faith.
1:59 Delenn is such a powerful character. She just walks from the shadow into the light, says 3 words and that can send chills down my spine. Epic
This right here. I was also a fan of Star Trek, but the emotional content of Babylon 5 space battles can't be compared.
One of the most astounding scenes of all SF scenes and movies I have see in my entire life. A space battle over the Earth, you can see the continents, seas, and the space warships shooting, and the net of orbital defences is realistic and terrific.
The Omega class destroyer, perhaps the most epic spaceship ever.
Imagine being a Starfury pilot all hyped up to liberate Earth. Then you are the first casualty taken out by one of the Defense grid's missiles....
My favorite part always was when the Apollo jumps in to save the day at the last minute.
I remember Carolyn Seymour in the role of Commander Toreth from the TNG episode "Face of the Enemy". Marina Sirtis was excellent in her dual role of Deanna Troi and Major Rakal.
Yeah Seymour was in a few episodes of Trek.
Thank you very much, after more than 20 years I finally know what order Sheridan really gave. The German synchronization for ramming speed made no sense for the following events. Ramming speed has been extremely wrongly translated as space speed. The correct German translation would have been Rammgeschwindigkeit. I'm sorry if the word sounds aggressive, but according to my American pen pal, the German language sounds aggressive and angry when people have an argument. I don't feel that way because he has, for sure, never heard what it sounds like when two Germans argue.
I like the German for tank, Panzerkampfwagen, far better imo.

When the Centauri and the Narn get together and say " Hey, what's going on here is pretty messed up.". Time to step back and evaluate.
1:16 - imagine the reaction of the rest of the Earth fleet at Mars, getting a copy of that transmission.
They were first disabled, so are stuck at Mars listening to the 'traitor Sheridan' attacking Earth. They hear that the defense grid is online, and know that it will buy them time to get their ships back in shape to help protect Earth. Then they hear her announce that Clark set the defense grid to target Earth. Figure a whole bunch of 'are we the baddies' went around the Earth fleet there.
We saw their reaction... Apollo was the Mars defence fleet's flagship. At the very end, Capt Sheridan and the Agamemnon were saved their former enemy.
@@BenjaminPitkin We only saw the reaction at the end. I was trying to imagine the reaction on their bridge as the message was transmitted. Imagine a whole bunch of 'oh c---' reactions on the entire fleet.
Just The Best! NO TV Series Even Approaches The Greatness Of Babylon 5 !
Always loved how JMS had Earth act and actually say we are the best , all the while our ships are outdated.
Aside from the obvious fake out explosion and the horrible shocked face Delenn had, this is one if not THE favorite scene in that season.
I cut out her shocked reaction, never felt right in that sequence

my favorite part of this entire show is even when human ships had no right to still be alive from the amount of damage they took they kept on fighting, even during the war I mean it didn't help but they did, it really personifies "Take a Licking and Keep on Ticking"
@@David-jt9nt Kind of reminds me of the absolute pounding the USS South Dakota suffered during the Guadalcanal campaign. Sure, none of the hits were mortal, but she was certainly swiss cheese after the fact. Much like the Agamemnon here.

Nearly a case of scorched ass too. A timely intervention if there ever was one. This was why UK based Sunday nights were worth waiting for. West Wing was also on a couple of hours later. Channel 4 again if I remember correctly.
Like most people, never much looking forward to the working week very much, that must have sent me to bed in a more positive frame of mind. Yeah, I'm well sure it did. In style!

I love the little vree saucer cruising along with the fleet, prolly comming "the element is aggregate stable!" (translation: "I'm doing MY part!")
I was very surprised that none of the ships appeared to have any sort of point defence to counter the missiles.
Then again, I expected the missiles to be nuclear tipped. The planetary defence grid fired a lot of them, to little effect.
Leave it to a politician to drag things out when time is of the essence.
There is an adage from hard sci fi which if followed would change the whole tide of this battle
" Any starship engine is functionally a weapon"
If Sheridan's ship had just turned itself over and decelerated hard into the defense satellite with the big nuclear torch engines those ships have, there would be no more satellite
No matter how well you can maneuver, it is never a good idea to have that many ships that close together for any reason, even more so when you are planning to engage in combat operations.
Regular anti-ship missile not even nuclear tip and G O D cannon didn't even fire - what a crappy orbital defense platform

Yeah... how to they have a particle weapon that destructive? And why? That's like using the full deathstar beam to swat ships. It will work, but a lower setting will easily get the job done at a much faster firing rate and even the entire Vorlon fleet won't risk crossing swords with that.
Decades ago I decided that there is a reason why various sci fi star ships almost never use nuclear weapons. It is because the technology clearly exists to accelerate normal missiles / other objects to extreme speeds and there is some sort of shielding capacity that allows space travel without being killed by high energy rays. These must exist or 1) they would never get anywhere and 2) everyone would get cancer by the end of the first season. This means that the destructive power "add" from a nuclear warhead is not particularly useful compared to just making the missile faster. I made this up and as far as I know, no show explicitly states this concept. But it is physically sound so that's how I ignore this apparent plot oversight.
I wonder how many of those Minnari crews has been at the Line and now they are fighting to save the humans who not only took up a war that was old as hell, but pushed it while also fighting a civil war? Dont mess with humans, we will fight eveyrthing just to keep pur home safe from you and ourselves
I really hope they keep the distinctive look of the EA ships, especially the Omega, in the reboot.

We had conservative security chief Michael Garibaldi. Sinclair and Sheridan who both were tough white military guys, very cliched. People of color were not per se perfect heroes and the ultimate good guys. We didn't have that much PoC crying and drama, unlike STD.
It wasn't "in your face" messaging and it wasn't all about black people and them becoming saints.
A question. In addition to his Earth forces Sheridan also has a sizable alien fleet that he held out of the final battle for Earth. But what if things had gone wrong and his Earth forces were defeated. Would he have called in the alien fleet? He made a big deal about keeping them out of it but what if things had gone wrong? Just a “what if” question.
He keep mostly Minbari ships. Too many people remember battle of the line. He try to keep it as human problem, but not enough firepower make him to cal reinforcements
This is as awesome today as it was when it first aired.
Notice how Earth is brown and dead looking.
I love this scene, amazing how it was designed.
An absolute cracking TV series all round, some of the episodes are a bit corny today but it's still superb

Ok so the Mars Fleet of 40 destroyers was disabled but doesn’t Earth the homeworld of humanity have a reserve fleet protecting it? And no fighter squadrons? I know they have the defense grid but that alone would not be enough.
Probably Clark sent them all away so he had a better chance to get his "Scorched Earth" plan done. A typical dictator move

I know it's late but Clark circled Scorched Earth in a page of the same line written again and again, I forget the exact line but it was spoken by Cartagia (the Centauri Emperor) when he was talking about the destruction of Centauri Prime, when the whole planet is destroyed he will be raised up as a god.
I suspect Clark believes something similar about him and Humanity, the Shadows have influenced both groups
Some people would rather lose badly destroying everything rather than surrender when they know they ar ebeaten.
Because Clark was a sore loser and wanted to give a final "Screw you" to Sheridan for defeating him and foiling his plans to turn Humanity into a genocidal superpower like the Dilgar, to make Sheridan's victory as bitter as any defeat basically.

That Ramming Speed Scene was kinda cheesy.
A lot of the "impact" was lost due to my editing I think. I cut in minimum info to just get us to the sweet sweet space battles.
Guessing its a fan remake of the last battle in the earth civil war ark. It would make more sense if this was the battle against the drak from a call to arms

Light travels faster than missiles .. These defense satellites should have been no threat to the starships since they all use ENERGY weapons .. They could have destroyed the missiles miles away from the ships
