Hey man, very nice video! Loved your photos from around Tokyo! I just bought a Sony A7 III, a 35mm 1.4 and the 85mm 1.8, and I'll be traveling to Japan in July for 3 weeks! Cant wait to get my Street photography on! :D Btw my Instagram is: "ebechphotography", any comments would be appreciated :D
Been using manual mode for studio shots but I get frustrated and flustered at times when Im trying to do street photography with manual. Glad you suggested apeture mode with the settings! This should set my mind at ease. Thank you! Funny enough, the publish date of this video is the same day I was in Akihabara! Recognized many areas you shot at~
personally, the 70-200 f2.8 on FF is the best street lens for me as it helps train me to frame and take the pictures in public without taking a long time to get the shot, and since I take less time to take the shot with the camera up to my face it makes me less intimidating to others, if I want a small compact setup I use my xt10 with xf18-55 f2.8-4 and a Meyer Optik Gorlitz Orestegor 200 mm f4
I need a notebook so I can take notes on videos which i actually plan on doing because theres so much to learn. It's intimidating for me because I haven't touched a dslr in years but your videos makes it easy for me to learn. Hope you ignore the negative comments, theres a difference between constructive honesty and just being outright rude, please continue to do things the way you are doing them. Thank you Pierre!

The street photography I learned in the 90s was more about images that told a story and the focus was more about capturing emotion vs interesting lines and shadows.
Hi! Thanks for watching. Yes, I focused mainly on that in that video. Had to cut was getting too long if I added the rest ha! Planning on doing another video on that specifically. Writing down your suggestions. Any other aspect you would like for me to talk about? See you in the next episode tomorrow :)
that'll be hours of video. You can always show the audience how to do that in 5 minutes if you're that good. my suggestion to you is go to B&H videos where they go through some of that in a little over and hour.
Lots of negative comments here, but Pierre this was really helpful for me. I'm about to start traveling around indefinitely and street photography is where I struggle often. Learning to get the shutter speeds, aperture, and ISO right for the crowds and environment is crucial. This is probably one of the best, and simplest, videos on the technical aspects behind street photography.
Beginner question, if your shooting city/landscape at f8/f11 etc to get everything in focus do you focus on something in the foreground or distance or does it not matter ?
Hey Avi! For just video vlog with no need of low light, I'd use the GH5 because the stabilization is amazing, it's small and lighter than the Sony. Downside of GH5: the AF is frustrating at times and the low light sucks.
Thank you for putting up these videos. As someone completely new to photography, I find them helpful. It's a shame that people have such negative remarks. If the information isn't useful to you and doesn't improve your undoubtedly superior mad skills, then just move on.

Well done. You suggested 24mm and 35mm prime for street photography that's a good one I use 30mm and 50mm. It is great to use aperture priority when the subject is stationary but on the other hand we can change the dial to shutter mode if the subject is moving on the street. Anyway your presentation is fantastic.
ThNk you!!!! :) Great choice too with 30 and 50!! Just published the new video! Hope you enjoy :) ruclips.net/video/qUinONrOLz8/видео.html Have a great day!
"start crushing street photography" come on really? all you have done is take about camera settings. "It really doesn't matter about your gear" (at the end) you just spoke about gear for the entire video. The vlogger phenomenon with "photographers" making a channel and "teaching us how to crush" is in reality people who seem to be obsessed with technique and equipment. You rarely if ever get anything remotely insightful or interesting on these videos just a load of waffle about mirrorless vs so and so and how many af points to use. A tip to anyone wanting to take "street photographs" go fill your shelves with books, ensure that you get bored talking about and obsessing over cameras and lenses as soon as possible make lost of mistakes and do it on your own, not in a workshop with self proclaimed expert or watching videos that make people think photography stops at f stops and megapixels,
Hey Inigo thanks for watching. Did you watch part 2? As mentioned this part was settings and gear so yes... I will speak about it. Second part is about what is behind the technicalities of it. Have a great day
thats ludicrous, what the hell has spelling got to do with it. When people use the grammar and spelling card on picking people up on there comments it I pretty clear what kind of person they are, criticise what I say by all means but picking up on spelling and grammar is pathetic.
Interesting, educational. You also take great photos. Asia for street photography is very hard to beat. I prefer a small camera. I use a Olympus tg 2 with different filters. Street photography is very interesting. Thanks Pierre.

The title should be camera modes, not street photography...
Thanks Pierre. Great video and advice. I was out yesterday and was using single and then realised many subjects I was photographing were moving. I switched to continuous and got much better results, so it's good to hear you do the same. One thing I wish people would confirm in vids is when they're talking about about lense size, is whether they mean for example, 35mm on a full frame or 35mm on a cropped sensor. That would be very helpful. Other than that, great. Thanks!
I guess the phrase can easily be dropped and even considered useless, especially for the written word. But vlogs are more personal and informal face to face conversations, the phrase recognising that others entering the conversation may have different views. So, "in my opinion", it is fine to use the phrase at least once.
Thank you Pierre for sharing and hope your wife and you enjoy the rest of your world tour! One thing that is very obvious here is that it is essential to have the right gear for travel and certainly the FF Sonys and DSLRs are not the ones to take! I have a Nikon D750 and recently bought a Olympus EM10. I simply love the EM10 Mk II for travel, street photography and landscape (the Live Composite mode is wonderful for long exposures) . It is very light, take great photos and with a prime 17mm f1.8 and a 14-42 kit lens (not the pancake version), it weighs less than my Nikon D750 body! Indeed I find very little reason for holding onto my D750 since I have not even used it this past 4 to 5 months. The Oly is a joy to use, weighs next to nothing and I am re-discovering the joy of photography once again.
Hey T! Damn right I hear so many good things about the Olympus! I had my GH5 and G85, the size and weight was a blessing!! I could see myself with a fuji or oly for everyday! :-) Keep it up!! New episode is out, don't miss it we talk about photos during the world tour! ruclips.net/video/fLKDu0mgGoU/видео.html :)
You give some good tips for beginners. Street photography for me is a hobby. The first requirement for any street photographer is that they have a camera of course, and any camera will be fine as long as you are comfortable with it. I prefer small and unobtrusive cameras for street work but I have also used Canon full frame with long lenses (not conducive with long stints on a busy street though). But cameras alone won't work unless you are an obsessive observer with a social and emotional connection to what is going on around you, and to your work of course. You need to have an adrenaline rush every time you put the camera to your eye and get excited about the finished image. I used to always shoot at 400 iso, f/5.6 for exteriors and 800 iso f/2 for interiors when I had my Fuji X100. With my X Pro 1 I set iso to auto and forget it, aperture value anywhere from f/5.6 to f1.4 through the day depending on the DOF I'm after. I shoot mainly for black and white but see the value of colour street photography more and more these days. Keep up the good work and promote our wonderful craft as much and as often as you can. keithtowers.zenfolio.com/
Hi Pierre! and thanks for all your video, amazing and super helpfull! i want to make you a question, Do you use the aperture priority also for landscape photography? When you decide to use A or M? thanks!
Keep this coming Pierre.....I been making music but its all done in front of a screen.....Got some kit so I can get creative outside....Thank you man....Will report back with the results in due course :)
I think the images of The Geishas are great it tells a story even because like you said there are only 300 left and the fact that she seemed like a mystery adds to this
BRAVO Pierre, really very knowledgeable, and hope that you enjoy being in Tokyo, and I'll bet that the food was very interesting there.... Great Shots!!
Thank you for this video! I am a student and you have answered some questions that don't normally get talked about. I had no idea I could set a minimum ISO / Shutter speed on my NIkon, I went searching and figured it out! Now to slap on my 85mm and head out for a few shots.. Again..thanks so much!
Hello Pierre I like your videos and I am learning a lot, also it's fun to watch a pro doing his things out and about. I have a Nikon D3200 and a 35mm 1.8 and a Sigma 105mm 2.8 macro lens. I am wondering what do you think about the macro lens for street photography? Is it suitable or just better stick with the 35mm?
Hi Daniele! Thanks a lot! Macro lenses totally work for street too - not common and that's exactly why you want to use them! You can get a unique pov. Also you can use it just like a normal telephoto lens :) Hope this helps! See you in the next episode!
how do you get things in focus all the time? I tried every af mode on my camera and it is inconsistent. What settings do you use in AF and how do you do it?
Love the tips! Hey what do you think about using an 18-140mm? Its a pretty good universal lens IMO and gives you some telephoto ability without being too obvious as you say. Curious of your thoughts on something like that
Ive just finished 3 weeks in China 1 week in Bangkok doing some street photography for my first attempt and it was a lot of fun. Got some amazing shots. Normally I do landscapes and buildings. Good suggestion about minimum shutter speed.
An eye opener for sure yes it was enjoyed. I had my Chinese partner to speak for me. Im going back for all the shots I missed out on, especially the west enchant China.
Hey Pierre, loved the video. Quite new to photography so everything you talk is inspiring and so helpful. Just a question, when you shoot in aperture priority, how do you have your metering set?
Shutter speed won't necessarily freeze action at 1/250. It depends on your lens. If shooting with a 200mm lens, you won't freeze anything at 1/250 and introduce lens blur. If you're shooting on a 50mm, 1/250 is fine.
Very good point Michael! It does depend on your focal length, kept it simple for the video - even for me most of the time that works out ok - the lens stabilisation helps too :) Thanks for watching!! See you in the next one :)
Thanks Pierre for allowing us to travel w you I can’t wait to see Tokyo once again you clearly love this city thx for sharing your tips I’m now rethinking prime lens for my travel
Hey Karen! Thank you for watching! Yes Tokyo really motivated me again to shoot street photography in an urban environment! :) Primes forever hehe (unless you have no space... haha) See you in the episode - I just published it :)
Hi Pierre. Would you recommend on crop sensor (Canon 800D/T7i) Sigma 18-35mm 1.8 for Street Photography. I'm currently using Canon 50mm 1.8 STM and still feel that in low light I'm not able to get sharp photos. Do you have any advice on sharp photos in low light situations? Regards
Thank you for this Pierre! I just realized after watching your video that I could set a maximum ISO on my A7ii, and that is almost life changing - lol!
Hello sir.. Your videos are really inspiring and provide gave great learning experience. Thanks for it. I want one suggestion as i am going to buy sony a7iii and I'm confused in lens which one to buy from these two: tamron 28-75 f2.8 or sony 24-105 f4 as my first lens
@@Pierretlambert tamron 28-75 f2.8??? 🤔 It is working properly with A7iii without any issues??? Actually this is my first camera so I'm confused and enquiring a bit. Sorry for asking again n again. 😊
Pierre, fantastic work, but around 8:23 you seemed to imply that Fuji had a Micro 4/3 sensor along with Panasonic and Olympus. To be clear Fuji is APS-C. But since owning the Fuji system I have found the prime lenses to be quite small and comparable to Micro 4/3 to some degree in terms of size. Thanks for the tips, great video!
Thanks for the tip about setting the minimum shutter speed of 250. It made a world of different in my photos today!

Thank you for this video! I am a student and you have answered some questions that don't normally get talked about. I had no idea I could set a minimum ISO / Shutter speed on my NIkon, I went searching and figured it out! Now to slap on my 85mm and head out for a few shots.. Again..thanks so much!
Hey Marlene! Thanks a lot, glad it helped!!! Happy shooting ;)
See you in the next episode!
Also you can use it just like a normal telephoto lens :)
Hope this helps! See you in the next episode!
I’m glad I found this video, I’m in the Tokyo now
Awesome! Thanks for watching :)
ps: just published the last video! ruclips.net/video/KJmgGMipbyw/видео.html enjoy!

Pierre T. Lambert Thank you Pierre! And then you just color grade and apply luts in post ?

Is the canon L series 100mm macro good for street/city photography?
I know it's 4 years old! But I love your channel! Thanks for Sharing!
Big help!
how do you get things in focus all the time? I tried every af mode on my camera and it is inconsistent. What settings do you use in AF and how do you do it?
Love the tips! Hey what do you think about using an 18-140mm? Its a pretty good universal lens IMO and gives you some telephoto ability without being too obvious as you say. Curious of your thoughts on something like that
Thanx so much, i been looking about 1000 vlogs but this i the one with the best tips for me.Thank you so much!!
Man you are so good. I would like to attend your Master class. Love your photos.
Very informative😊
I always use Autofocus on nikon d7500. Your video help me a lot.
Question - if I have a 35 mm or 85 mm/ f 1.8 lens with me, how high do I set the aperture for street photography?
Thank You for this incredibly informative video
Thanks for watching ;)
Ive just finished 3 weeks in China 1 week in Bangkok doing some street photography for my first attempt and it was a lot of fun.
Got some amazing shots. Normally I do landscapes and buildings. Good suggestion about minimum shutter speed.
Hey D! Thanks man. Oh that must have been great! Yeap pretty different - how did you enjoy?
An eye opener for sure yes it was enjoyed. I had my Chinese partner to speak for me. Im going back for all the shots I missed out on, especially the west enchant China.
Hi, nice video
Can you please let me know which AF area do you select more ? (Wide, zone, spot,...)? Thanks
Hi Romain! Spot 98% of the time :)
PS: new video just dropped! ruclips.net/video/FhMbOnOhIDs/видео.html Enjoy!
Hi, I like your videos. Can you do street photography by just using a 18-55mm kitlens?
Hy! I would like to ask you that what do you suggest objectiv to me for street photo, because i like your street photos very much!!! Thx
Very helpful, great job 👍🏼👍🏼
Thank you 😊
The photos are extremely well done, good work
Thanks Will!! See you in the next episode ;-)
Awesome video! Full of useful tips and advice! I just subscribed📷😊
Hey Tatiana! Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
See you in the part 2 (released last week) and the new one!
Hey Pierre, loved the video. Quite new to photography so everything you talk is inspiring and so helpful. Just a question, when you shoot in aperture priority, how do you have your metering set?
Hey Rod! I made another video on that topic actually - good timing ;) ruclips.net/video/njmKjuBt_Fg/видео.html
Pierre T. Lambert thanks mate you are a legend
Shutter speed won't necessarily freeze action at 1/250. It depends on your lens. If shooting with a 200mm lens, you won't freeze anything at 1/250 and introduce lens blur. If you're shooting on a 50mm, 1/250 is fine.
Very good point Michael! It does depend on your focal length, kept it simple for the video - even for me most of the time that works out ok - the lens stabilisation helps too :)
Thanks for watching!!
Primes forever hehe (unless you have no space... haha)
See you in the episode - I just published it :)
I love this video!! This is why I subbed.
Hey Sean! Awesome! Welcome to the adventure! Don't miss the other street photography videos, you'll love it :)

Amazing videos. How film you POV? It's a GoPro? Thank you!
Hey pierre did you do color grading? If yes what settings, I really love the quality. I cannot stop watching all of your stuff
I found your video interesting and informative. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching Louis :)
Regards
Depends on your shutter speed! Check the night photography video I have out :)
First time watching your videos, and I love it! Keep up the good work!
Hey Lee! Thanks a bunch man!
See you in the next video ;)
Thank you for this Pierre! I just realized after watching your video that I could set a maximum ISO on my A7ii, and that is almost life changing - lol!
Hello sir.. Your videos are really inspiring and provide gave great learning experience. Thanks for it.
I want one suggestion as i am going to buy sony a7iii and I'm confused in lens which one to buy from these two: tamron 28-75 f2.8 or sony 24-105 f4 as my first lens
Hi Thanks!
2.8! :) but check the tests ;)
ps: new video is out, enjoy!! ruclips.net/video/nZ7K42v5Ce4/видео.html
@@Pierretlambert tamron 28-75 f2.8??? 🤔 It is working properly with A7iii without any issues??? Actually this is my first camera so I'm confused and enquiring a bit. Sorry for asking again n again. 😊
Me like this, as a beginner information like these helps so much, thanks man :D
Thanks Staz!!
Hi Pierre! I have a Canon E0S M50 and my camera doesn't have a shutter speed minimum setting unfortunately. Is there any way around this?
This video convinced me to subscribe ! Found the tips helpful . ( especially about min.shuttter speed limitation).
Hey Maximilliano!! Welcome to the adventure man :)
Hello Pierre, had a question for night shooting on aperture priority what would be the best minimum setting for shutter and iso?
Hey Pierre which camera and lens do you vlog with? Please and Thank You
Heya! You can find my gear here: kit.com/pierretlambert or in the description :)
