I can't get over how great of a story teller your are. Your photos are always inspiring but the way you weave them into visual story telling and cinematography blows me away
thank you so much 🥲
completely agree !
I agree!
You and your channel are going from strength to strength, Faizal. I could not enjoy your videos more. The combination of creativity, outstanding imagery and education is unbeatable. Thank you .
❤️
I just love everything about your RUclips channel. Your videography, your calming voice, your storytelling, your beatiful pictures! The low key, none stressfull approach and the mood you set. It’s soo calmiing and enjoyable, it’s a bit like ASMR to your soul 😊 You could make videos about anything really, it’s your storytelling, it’s a gift 🙏🏻
Thank you!! :)
Overcast and cloudy days are actually my preferred days to shoot because the sky is dramatic in backgrounds and the light is incredibly even and soft, like the sky is a giant soft box.
Yes! I really think color can pop nicely, too.
Great story telling.
Talking about “bad light,” just look at how many car commercials are being made under bad light (night, cloudy days, rain). This is some great motivation, Faizal.
just remember that when the light is in these conditions, it gives you even exposure which is really useful for getting images like gary winogrand, where the focus is on the moment, and not on the color/shadow
Someone once told me that as long as you can see, you can make a photo. And, there's no such thing as "bad" light. What matters is that the light is right for what the moment means to and feels for you.
The Creative Act is a must read book for any creative Pierson. It gives strength to be creative, explains what it is and celebrates it, in a way that it makes you feel truly empowered to be yourself. Incredible book.
"When life gives you lemons, make a youtube video"
this is one of the best contemporary qoutes of any genre...
for most photographers bad light is bright sunny lol. but gotta love it in street photogrsaphy
I've watched this video may be 4 or 5 times already. Thanks for making YT a nice place where the art actually matters. Cheers from Chile!
actually enjoying your content the most when its about photography, no matter the topic. your calm and reflected way of storytelling is very a very good contrast to the daily busy life we are living. thank you for the valuable contribution.
I appreciate that!
I don't know if he coined the phrase, but Joe McNally always says, "Pray for bad weather, makes for good photos".
beautifully made video!
German photographer Siegfried Hansen is one of the people I look up too when I feel uninspired because he shoots in any condition and just focuses on great composition
A strenght of overcast light is that it's super even. I've found it's great for making reds and greens pop in particular. Or, like you might see in your own black and white stuff on here, it makes for shadowy monochrome.
As a film girly I live overcast or cloudy days. For me its seems to elevate my compositions, because I’m not chasing the light.
this video is a breath of fresh air, thank you
Thank you!
Well done Faizal. As others said, you have a way of blending videography and stills that makes for an excellent story. It is clear that you spend a lot of time and energy on your YT videos. It shows. Thank you.
man Urth makes me feel so good about my photography, i feel like their stuff is professional quality without the professional price. Plus a big point on buying them is ive already had 15 trees planted in my name, not a lot but it feels like it helps
wow i really needed this for inspiration. Ihave been wanting to play with motion blur. I always resort to panning shots of cars which I enjoy but this opens up so many more possiblities. Great video Faizal!
So delighted to have found your channel. I’ve just gone down a rabbit hole on your videos. Great body of work. The pigeon shots are phenom and such a great example of you using the technique! Thanks for sharing your talents with the world
Great video. Struggling with the same thing and this certainly gave me some motivation to go out and experiment with different techniques. Thanks!
Bad weather makes for good photos...I prefer shooting when it's raining and snowing. Makes the images more interesting and adds mood.
Fantastic way to show how your work is done. The video is just great, calm, peaceful and so interesting! Love to watch them.
Easily one of my favorite channels. Thank you for some of the most tasteful and relaxing videos touching on creative content and for always inspiring others
We’ll said. I definitely agree.
Thank you for the love ❤️
There's always light…what's missing is the reliable crutch of definitive shadow.
This body of work is mind-blowing
This video made me feel things. Rubin's book is incredible and helped me really understand myself better.
I love everything about this video
OVERCAST..... or gray scale seems to fit my work very well. thanks for all your work.
every video is like a piece of art👏
❤️❤️
I love this video. Something most of us struggle with for sure. I love the ideas about motion blur!
Rainy weather and jazz make for great photography IMO. Also, all my filters are URTH - nice sponsor! 👍🏼
I don't have that camera!
@@FaizalWestcott it was a limited model 😂
Wow i just found your channel and it's like food for my soul. Also, clicked on your "best light for video" link and literally laughed out loud 😂 you feel like a kindred spirit.
eyy nice to see Urth reaching out. I've had filters from them since they used to call themselves Gobe,, nice local Aussie brand :)
Love that one ... thanks
I have been finding that the same conditions do not inspire me either. You Faizal have shown me the way to get out there and experiment more. I'm certainly going to give motion photography a try. It's something I have never really done. Thank you for inspiring me with your latest video.🙂
finally getting around to this video and I can't lie man, this made me tear up a bit. I've been in a rut myself and this was a perfect reminder to experiment and reduce expectations - that's where the magic happens.
I could not enjoy your videos more. thanks you for the great story teller😍
Every time i watch a video from you i get inspired to do something new!
I’m living in Boston at the moment for about 6 weeks and have gotten to shoot a ton in the city, so it’s really cool to recognize all the locations here and see how you capture them. I feel like I am definitely too light-dependent at the moment, and dropping the shutter speed is something I always forget about, but such a great way to change things up. Definitely need to remember that for future grey days! Haha
"When light gives you lemons make a youtube video."
Brilliant video! Thanks you for sharing your photographic voyage with us. Weather here in MA is always a mixed bag. Summer 2023 has been hot and rainy!. Always great content!
This summer in Boston might be one of the worst in a long time!
Just love 肥牛火锅城 when I was studying in Boston, nice video by the way, learn a lot thanks😊
Hello Faizal, your video caught my attention. It was "shooting in bad light," which seems like all we have of late here in Minnesota. I am very inspired by your black and white ICM photos, and one of my favorites is the street pigeons. ICM gives the image a fine art feel; its unique and different and makes use of bad light. You have inspired me to give this a try. Best wishes
Been out nearly everyday for the last 5 years on the street no such thing as bad light or bad weather, just bad photographers and bad clothes.
I'm currently reading this book and just found your channel. The book is great and easy to apply towards photography. This video is very nice work as well!
"The worse the weather, the better the pictures." - Pentti Sammallahti
Inspirational, makes me want to get out there whatever the light. Thank you.
Great ideas for photo techniques to try again, but even better ideas on how to enjoy photoraphy by going into new or under-explored environments.
A lot of videos about ICM or shooting in bad conditions have been appearing on my feed lately, this was the best of them by far. I've been going through a rut lately and not only because of lighting conditions. Ive moved to the countryside (i used to live in Montmartre, Paris) and its been difficult to motivate myself to go out. Ive been giving myself too much pressure to do what Im used to doing and looking for the same types of scenes. Maybe its time to go hunting with exercices in mind and not just to fill my portfolio. I might just find something new to get me out there again. Cheers mate 🍻
I'm so glad you found the video inspiring 😌
I love this video! Thanks for the footages, photos, thoughts and music! Bravo!
thank you so much!
Funnily enough, I love the rain and low light for photography.. I just have the cold and getting wet!
Our battles are different my friend!
When light gives you lemons, you make light take the lemons back. “I don’t want your damn lemons!”
I like some of the pictures a lot, and the video shots were mostly pretty cool, despite the weather.
Danke!
Thank you so inspiring me to start photographing outside my comfort zone. I have Rubins book as well. It is a great book. I agree with you to recommend it.
An usual day for photography 🙂 Greetings from the UK
Great video, great thoughts! Thanks a lot
I’ve been recently super into motion blur! Liked it so much I got an VND to utilize in full sun and allows me to quickly swap from slow shutter to a faster one . A lot of fun 🤘🏼
Faizal, you're reading my mind right now, as weather is shifting (here in the UK) and I've done less photography as a result. Maybe time to change up Fuji film-sims, too? That's my focus right now to keep me outside. Thanks for the video.
Found your channel some weeks ago. I love everything you have and are currently putting out there, just wanted to share my thanks.
thank you for watching
clicked for the Chinatown alley. enjoyed many pastries there while taking a break from shooting
see you out there!
You should try incorporating flash into your intentional camera movement images to freeze the subject (keeps them sharp), and then move the camera in the direction you want the blur or light trails, I love using this technique with flash, especially on days like the one in your video 😊
I actually did a flash video last year! It was so difficult for me. Your comment reminds me I should give it another go!
@@FaizalWestcott oh cool! I'm going to look up that video you did then on using flash. I did this technique with bands and dancers to try and capture energy of the performance (having stage lights in background definitely helps with cool light trails) and I would use something like ND8 filter so I could do exposures of at least 1 second. It might be cool to try this technique at night or during blue hour, or on rainy days where the pavement and stuff is reflective. I love your videos, I find them calming and beautiful; all the best!
Hell yeah Faizal! You’ve blended the world of cinematography with street photography so beautifully (again). Always love to see what you create!
Thank you man!
This was inspiring! Thank you!
This is one of my fav channels on youtube!
Thank you for this and the book recommendation!
Great video and very cool photos! I live on a city thats have a good light, but its a really boring place, so i use this tecniques quite often. Thanks for your videos!
my experience tells me there are not many photographers who know how to take street photos of no photos, it takes a minimum of 20 years of experience to achieve something
love that good inspiration
the pigeon shot!!
Wow...I should try that ..thank you for sharing Faizal
Great video, hope that I will remember how creative you can be on "not so nice" days. Will try it in NYC later this year
Wow! You have absolutely inspired me to start my photography/videography journey. Love the videos
From Southern California. Envy for your rain, but makes me want to find what keeps me from using my camera. Another intelligent and classy video.
I've never understood ICM. It's neither art nor pleasing to the eye as my brain finds it difficult to process. Some blur can help convey a particular sense of movement alongside stationary objects. But you're right. There's no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothes.
I love that last sentence
What an episode, man! Loving the exercise!
thank you!
every video from Faizal kicking my lazy ass to take camera and go outside, even in rainy day
I love this video. So inspirational.
I can only get out one afternoon per week so whatever the weather I'll be on the streets of York (UK) with my camera. It's therapeutic.
Sadly this is me approximately 30mims..light changed and my mood changed...so thanks sir for this awesome video will be bookmarking it for the future to come back to
glad you can relate haha
woaw... so inspiring and soothing
Just wanted to say that I enjoy your art very much. Stay inspired bro.
Thank you so much 😀
12:14 amazing frame
thank you!
love all what you did, especially in this video 👍👍
Another great inspiring video!
The first pigeon photo is awesome ❤👌👍🔝📸
12:10 I think this is the best picture using blur technique in this video
Another brilliant video, can't wait to try some motion blur shooting too - some of these shots were beautiful.
This is a great video!!
Another amazing atmospheric video. Noticed the Chinatown motif goes through many of your videos. Head to Shanghai if you have a chance, it's a perfect city for street photography!=)
Great vidéo as always
Love your stuff man. i hope to bump into you someday in Boston while on a photo walk! I usually do Cambridge after work.
Everything is photographable. Garry Winogrand.
One of my favorite quotes
Naaah that truck shot was 🔥🔥🔥
this is gold.. thanks for this content Sir
Awesome video !!! You’re so inspiring ! Thanks man
ASMR photography ❤
I've always thought that what you're calling bad light was the best light and my favorite condition for shooting. But maybe that's because I'm heavily influenced by Saul Leiter.
