  • So I was driving down the road a few nights ago and saw this beauty on the side of the road and boy did it catch my eye! I did a quick u turn and went back to check it out and to my surprise it was for sale. So i called the phone number on the sign and found out that the owner was asking $3,050 for it and that was a little more than i would like to spend right now so i decided to pass. The following day I thought to myself that its not every day you see an awesome 1974 Sprite vintage camper. So i gave the owner another call and asked if I could make a video of it and he said yes! So I was so excited that i left my shop early and drove all the way back just to make this video. Id like to thank the owner of this camper for being so willing to let me, a total stranger film his camper. Hope you all enjoy this vintage camper tour just as much as I did recording it.

      I think there was a small fixture on the roof next to the air vent. But other then that I'm not sure... kind of strange, nice catch! Thanks for watching.

    The Sprite was very popular here in New Zealand and there were plenty of them around back in the day. There still is but you'd be lucky to pick one up that needs full restoration for less than $7k. You will not see a Sprite or similar quality caravan that has been restored for less than $15k and likely way more, even up to $35k. Small caravans in this country have made a major comeback in recent years, I just purchased one a few days ago myself, a 1969 10ft Clipper in orginal condition. I had been looking for maybe 6 months to find a really good caravan at a decent price. It was listed on a site and I went to see it and owned it within 90 minutes. There had already been a dozen calls and others were on their way to see it also, that's how quick you have to be.

    As an Englishman and a caravan owner, I've had a few Sprite's over the years. Old ones obviously. I'm skint! (Broke). I didn't know they flogged (sold) em in America. Lovely to see one still going strong. You can pick em up for a song in the UK. 5 or 6 hundred quid will get you a pretty good one. Really enjoyed watching this. Cheers mate! Jez. 👍

    I have a 1971 Sprite. It was in much harder shape, as it was in the woods at our family camp for man, many years. The front couch actually had two beds. One above the other and the upper bunk folded down to be the back of the couch. We turned that couch into the dinette so you did not have to make your bed every day. I do like the idea of putting an air conditioner under that closest. Although with the giant windows and vent in the roof it cools down fast with good air movement. Other than being a really cool camper it is the best to tow because you can open all the curtains and see right through it. Makes it so much easier to back up and see vehicles behind you. 3000 is actually a very nice price for this great camper because I put at least that much in repainting, rebuilding the dinette, put a new stove and countertop, brand new cushions and rewire. The only drawback is you can not get hardware for it. I have tried everywhere to replace the stays without any luck. Another pro is the fact that two people can push it around easily and even I can put it on and off a hitch and it can be towed by almost any vehicle.

    Sprite caravans are very rare in North America, but for the rest of the World, they were the World's biggest caravan manufacturer, turning out 33,000 units per year globally at their peak. Sprite bought the old Covered Wagon factory in Indiana to ship a flat-pack Sprite over from the UK and assemble it in the US to get around high import taxes. You can read the full history of Sprite in the US here: www.classicspritecaravans.co.uk/sprite-caravans-in-north-america

    I have a 1975 Sprite, built in the US as Sprite had subcontracted with an American company. The one in this vid may be built in the US because the door to the trailer is on what we know as the passenger side of the trailer, not behind the driver. Mine also has that hideous linoleum. Yes, we know what the storage is for. lol ...

    • @rosemariebuchanan7683
      @rosemariebuchanan7683 2 года назад

      My Sprite also has an actual room for a bathroom, but it's not a bathroom as it has no toilet, etc. The dining area arrangement is something I've never seen in a trailer, or in any of the Sprite vids I've seen. The table is 17" x 47", long and narrow. It is used as part of the larger bed's platform, but it doesn't break down into the typical trailer dining area. I have thought of taking out the bathroom and making the dining area more typical, but that's too much work and I camp alone, so it's not that big of a deal to me.

    I have a 1973 Sprite 400 caravan. It is very similar to this one except the cupboard above the sink is a little different and it is green and white on the outside. I wanted to say that it was incorrectly mentioned in your video that these campers were shipped all they way across the ocean from the UK. That is not true....these campers were made for a 2 or 3 year period in the early 70's by the Sprite Manufacturing Company, Inc. in Nappanee, Indiana. The Spec sheet is still in my trailer.

    I'll give you a subscribe for the help on your first 1,000. I know the struggle, even though I am a heck of a lot newer to channel creation than you are. But we both share a love of vintage trailers apparently. I am currently restoring a 1973 Shasta, and have been visiting vintage trailer rallies for a couple of years now.

    If its still for sale i would get rid of that narrow couch and move the sink, fridge and stove where the couch was and put a bigger bed. I would change out that ac to a ceiling ac onto the roof and put a solar panel on it
