You shouldn’t feel bad getting your dog neutered. If anything it’s an excellent decision for his health. If you are not using him for breeding neutering may prevent testicular cancer. He won’t know the difference. And God forbid he gets his mother pregnant…. If his mother happens to go in heat he and his father would fight and you don’t want that. You made the right decision. This surgery is nothing like a female spay. 👍🏻
That they both would fight in this case is not realy true some doe it some dont but the stress for him will be gone also wheen he smells a Female dog in heat that is also a big and good point for neuter a male dog beside what you said :)
I am getting my puppy a vasectomy instead so he will still have the hormones but not make babies! I have done research and it is way better and healthier for them. Good luck and God bless your family.
Big reason is hormones are big part of bones and joints development until age of 18 months. Large breeds is more important help keeps bones and joints strong gives them healthier start.
I respect any décision you make. However, I just read that a breed like Russell is far too young at 7 months to get neutered and cause other problems as he's still a growing boy. Especially, if you're not sure if you want Kora having pups again so soon with Leiski, I'm confused why you don't give her one more round of megestrol acetate. This would give Russell time to grow and Kora a break. I might be influenced by what à perfect spécimen Russell is 😢
Your daughter is so beautiful, just like her mama The pups are so fantastic, wish you could hold off on getting Russell neutered, I do understand why you are doing it, but for his health it is better to wait for several years. I waited for 4 years on my boy, he is doing better than I expected, and he now weighs 90 pounds. He was a very thin GSD, one of his testicles was hidden in his stomach so his surgery was a little intensive. He is eating though and looks nice and chubby Love you all so much
😅 I just googled neutering in large brreds your dogs are considered giant breed and the recommended age for neutering is 14 months. Neutering too early can cause growth plate problems leading to hip dysplasia and other bone problems, it can also cause cancers.
I'm not anti neutering, studies just have shown that it's better for the dog, health wise, to wait til they are done growing. Growth plates need the hormones & neutering takes them away. Large breeds take longer to fully mature, as you can see with Russel, he's tall but very lanky, he still has another 8 Mos left of growing, easily. I don't know if it will stunt his growth at this point but it can cause issues with the joints. Some studies have also shown it could trigger certain cancers as well. Hope all goes well.
One of my Anatolians had to be fixed at 3 months because of a health issue. He grew to be huge...189 pounds. He was the size of a little pony. No worries about it stunting his growth.

I've had the stray cats in my area fixed at 3 months and they've never had a problem, even living outside with "no cones around their neck" afterwards.
Kevin, you and Rachel are just great people all the way around in everything you do. You take such good care of your family AND your animals. I never worry about them because I know you two are always there to make sure they have everything they need. I can't get over Kyah's looks changing so fast. She's lost her little girl look and now she looks like a little woman and she is beautiful.

Bone broth is helpful for pets and people. Glad Mojo likes it. It's definitely time for Russell to get neutered before Cora goes into heat again. That could cause major problems between Leeski and Russell, including fights. Plus, Mojo is already neutered and I think he would be more accepting of Russell if Russell were neutered as well. Mojo knows that right now he's intact, and, therefore, Russell could actually try to challenge Mojo. Once Russell is neutered, that tendency should disappear and Mojo should become more accepting of him.
Russell is so adorable. He's like a skinny teenager with all legs. 😂. Cora is laying around like she did when she was in heat and when she was pregnant. ❤

At the end of the day, the animals are yours! You make the necessary decisions about them based on your perspectives. People love puppies, but you are the ones who have to provide for them and take care of all their needs!!
After surgery they usually don't want them doing much so you may want to keep him there on the front porch with Mojo because he will be a little loopy for a while, so he doesn't get his stitches wet also. Silly Betty is determined to keep on hatching babies, LOL, I hope lil Russel does well just give him a few days of not over doing himself.

As for Russel being neutered now this is a great time. Right before he becomes reproductively mature. It’s much easier on them as far as the surgery. It’s pretty hard on them after maturity. I think you’re smart for getting Russell neutered. He’s definitely old enough to breed Kora; which, is no good. You’re already taking a chance since Kora and Leeske are not fixed. You know that once she comes in heat Leeske will know and breeding happens quickly. You might ask the Vet tomorrow when Kora may come into heat again so that you’re aware of the timeline. Russell will be just fine if you neuter him and can live a very happy and healthy life. I think you and Rachel are doing the right thing. ❤❤❤❤
It is not a sad day when you have your male dog neutered. You have made the decision to extend his life and to give him a healthier life. To have your dog spayed or neutered is strictly between you are your veterinarian

I was taught from about 3 years old to watch the cycles of dogs as moma and daddy raised them. I have found they either come in every 6 months or once a year. I would say came in around November last year since she had pups in January. Watch the moon cycle too. This has never failed me. So happy Mojo is feeling good on the beef broth. Ours got it naturally from scraps back when everything was home grown and cooked. Happy days
Getting a dog neutered can actually be good for his health, and I’ve heard they wander away from home less. You surely don’t want him getting together with his mom. Have a happy day.
Since I do TNR (trap/neuter/release) often, I know the difference it makes in their lives, I've been doing it for years, and it makes a male so much more happier, and it's a relief to them not to have those harmones that can make them aggressive, and he is NOT too young! In my city in Texas, it has been in the 100's+ every single day.
10th-13th got a break from 100+ temps. Also got rain 2 mornings (17th & 18th) in a row from thunderstorms. Much needed!! Trees are shedding leaves so dry. Now back to searing heat. Ready for the hot, hot, hot to end!

We live in McKinney Texas about 30 miles north of Dallas, it has been insanely hot here 103 to 106 with heat index in the 110-115. Thank goodness to central air. I agree with you about having the neutering done now. I had all my GSD done at around 8 months, it does not stunt their growth, and with all the outdoor activities your dog's get, they will build healthy muscles and maintain a healthy weight. It's genetics that play the biggest hand. plus, Russell will focus better for you. He is a handsome boy. All the kids are back in school here.

Russell is thin but they don’t bulk out till after they are year old. He is wonderfully proportionate.

Since I do TNR (trap/neuter/release) often, I know the difference it makes in their lives, I've been doing it for years, and it makes a male so much more happier, and it's a relief to them not to have those harmones that can make them aggressive, and he is NOT too young!
In my city in Texas, it has been in the 100's+ every single day.
10th-13th got a break from 100+ temps. Also got rain 2 mornings (17th & 18th) in a row from thunderstorms. Much needed!! Trees are shedding leaves so dry. Now back to searing heat. Ready for the hot, hot, hot to end!
8:17 p.m. in Weatherford, Texas, it is 99 degrees but feels like 101 degrees. Hot. Tomorrow's high is expected to be 107 degrees. Ugh, there's no chance for rain.

We live in McKinney Texas about 30 miles north of Dallas, it has been insanely hot here 103 to 106 with heat index in the 110-115. Thank goodness to central air. I agree with you about having the neutering done now. I had all my GSD done at around 8 months, it does not stunt their growth, and with all the outdoor activities your dog's get, they will build healthy muscles and maintain a healthy weight. It's genetics that play the biggest hand. plus, Russell will focus better for you. He is a handsome boy. All the kids are back in school here.
