I'll be honest Andrew, I am pretty happy with CarPlay the way it is and I would plug it in anyway so as to not kill the battery. I chose my last car in part because it supported CarPlay. I never use anything but maps, music and the podcast app. That's all I need and they work fine just as they are now. I'd have to buy a new car to get those cool dash features and I won't be doing that for a long time so...

Yeap. I’m also happy with the current setup. I only use Apple Music and Waze. And phone calls too. The point is to keep it simple and out of the way. I rarely touch the screen once I start driving. When surveying new cars, CarPlay is a must have in my wishlist. But I have to say this though, I saw in one video the dashboard view on a square screen and that looks terrible!

I'm relatively new to CarPlay, and so for me, it's like **high** tech. I had no clue that the kind of displays you showed on your dashboard were even within the realm of possibility. So the things you mention would be great, but I'm still awed by having the software at all!

I want them to incorporate lossless audio through wireless CarPlay. Also show what format of audio is playing through CarPlay without having to go on your phone app. It gets annoying having to plug in if you want true uncompressed audio.

    • @lucasdivine9131
      @lucasdivine9131 Год назад +2

Bluetooth doesn't support lossless audio... it simply can't handle that much data. Until that problem is overcome lossless via wireless CarPlay is simply not possible

    • @JDoG867

@@lucasdivine9131 this is true, Bluetooth is not capable of sending that amount of data transfer. But…. If you turn off your Bluetooth (completely in the system settings) after CarPlay does the start up handshake, the audio still plays through wifi. The audio does not transmit through Bluetooth as far as I can tell. This is why when you are hooked up with wireless CarPlay and pull down the Control Center, wifi is greyed out.

I use Apple CarPlay daily. Mostly just for music, but a few times a year that I use the Maps app, I love that I can set the route on my phone while in my home, get in my car and it carries over to the dash screen. It pretty much is a must have, imo. I love what Apple showed off for the future of CarPlay, but I don't expect it actually becoming a thing for a very long time. Very likely won't be in any car I ever own, which is sad to think about.
What is scary is car manufacturers are looking at monthly subscriptions for built-in features of cars. Things such as more horsepower or heated seats might come standard in all models, but require a monthly fee to activate.

BMW tends to adopt CarPlay features first. For example they rolled out wireless CP years ago. I find apps over wireless CP have more issues than wired CP in my other two cars. Such as an app saying it can’t play a podcast although it has gotten better in iOS 16.

My only problem is that extending CarPlay to the gauge cluster screen is it doesn’t do anything better or more reliable than the OEM UI. Sure it is prettier but that’s the only improvement. It seems like they just need a reason to sell a more expensive version of CarPlay

I was shocked when I unplugged my iPhone and the CarPlay was still working! It was so nice to be able to then realize I could charge my phone via the cigarette light adapter and not worry about my music and navigation not working until I plugged it in. After numerous complaints from customers that the App simply does not work on many functions, there seems to be no attempt to fix the issues by the manufacturer or OIS. I should say Android Auto users do not have these functionality issues, so the choice is do we change to Android on next phone upgrade to have these functions working?

I use CarPlay all the time. I got a dongle to make it wireless. I think wireless CarPlay is nice for short trips but for long trips, the battery drain is pretty high. So you really have to use a wireless charger or plug it in. What would be nice is for vehicles to have a place in the dash so I can insert my iPad and use that screen and avoid the auto tech screen all together.

    My main gripes with CarPlay:
-can’t even search for music within the Apple Music app.
-scrolling through a playlist in my Apple Music library is extremely slow and makes me look down at the screen for far too long, would rather just pull out the phone to find a specific song.
-Waze, Google and even Apple Maps all have a limited interface
    for example:
when searching for a specific store or business (whatever it may be), it doesn’t show any details like the store’s hours, doesn’t zoom out to show you a view of other stores matching your search but instead only shows you a list sorted by distance and you basically have to guess which location it is if you don’t know the exact address. it’s a pain in the ass to get around, especially in somewhere you are not familiar with. (which almost always happens to me because i’m always traveling or taking trips out of state.
-and to agree with the video, every app that is supported by carplay seems to be oversimplified and barebones.
-no support for even the most popular of apps.

What I do is open the app in my phone first and pick my station. I then click "now playing" in Apple Car Play and XM app shows up and it's graphically superior with album art and song info. Android lacks this feature. I use Apple Car play for music, maps, phone calls, listening to messages and "listening" to youtube videos such as yours. I pay for RUclips Premium so I can download videos into my phone and not use data. I make a playlist and then listen to them through the "now playing" feature. A video still of the youtube video shows up on the screen. I'm very happy with Apple Car play.

My car is equipped with wireless CarPlay and qi wireless charger but I still prefer to plug my phone in. Wireless chargers can heat up the phone with wireless CarPlay, my iPhone 12 will become overheated pretty fast.
I’m also quite happy with the interface currently available, since what I only need is to play music and sometimes use google maps.
Don’t get me wrong, the new CarPlay looks pretty cool and I would like to see those hit the market, but if I only got limited budget I would rather spend the money on better speakers or better build quality and higher resolution screens instead of fancy Apple CarPlay.
I hope one day we can get a better wireless charging system that will not generate a lot of heat.

I’d love to see improved performance, stability. Honda CarPlay just stops working pretty regularly; toggling the side view camera fixes it.
Better Siri interactions. Asking Siri to play certain playlists or music can be painful when it doesn’t get it right.
Also even the Apple Music UI is poor, with missing options to quick play from the current list (only shuffle or song selection in some cases). This, from the company that invented the initiative click wheel UI.

I have an 2022 Audi A4 Allroad that has wireless carplay. It's really convenient BUT it absolutely destroys the battery. For short drives around town, I just leave the phone in my pocket but any travel over significant distances means connecting it to charge in the center console. Furthermore, the UI performance is a bit laggy at first connect and there is input latency when pausing or changing tracks. I have gotten accustom to wireless though. It completely throws me off when getting into my wife's 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe that only has wired carplay.
Still, in my opinion It is a convenience feature more than a must-have feature.

I was disappointed when they Apple announced the new carplay updates which consisted only of the new vision and no update to the current, actual, CarPlay. As said in the video, car manufacturers aren’t gonna implement it, and even if some did, it’d probably be cars that most people can’t even afford.

I think the exactly oposite, but I dont know what apple charges for integration. Most like "budget" cars would really benefit of this, cuz you have a stable and good option for everything, without having to do an own solution.

The proposed CarPlay across all screens can definitely make the user experience within the car, way more seamless. Apple can do software much better than any auto manufacturer. It’s the auto manufacturers who need to start adopting these features to provide a more user friendly interface to the customer.

I bought a new Honda early 2022 and it included wireless CarPlay. Honestly, I love CarPlay. My biggest request is more wallpaper options an especially to add our own pics as wallpaper. I just the built in apps, Music, Maps, iMessage, and Phone the most and don't have any complaints with them. As mind-blowing as the total dash take over of CarPlay seems to be, I suspect it will take a good five years or more for it to filter in to most cars. Personally, I plan on keeping my current car for at least 10 years if not longer, so it's not really a concern.

I have only wired CarPlay in my own car (Volvo) and I rarely use it. Basically I use it only for longer trips to have Waze on the screen, but even still I use the car’s own navigation mostly because it’s integrated with the HUD and to the gauge cluster. In rental cars I prefer BMWs and Audis for their wireless CarPlay, but if there’s only available something with wired CarPlay like Mercedes and Volvo, I would use it, but not be very happy about it.

Wired carplay has not that much issues like wireless carplay and your battery will go down very fast, so you have to plug it in anyways. Its a thing of a second to plug your phone in, but you only get benefits out of it.

You are so wrong about this. I use Apple products and I love CarPlay but this video does not account real world problems like patent legal issues, logistics, nature of manufacturing industry, costs, etc.
    1) car manufacturers don't get financial incentives for adopting Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. Manufacturers are the one who has to pay fee. Every auto manufacturers decide hardware specs like screen size, screen spec, memory, touch screen or touchless, ram, etc based on their models, pricing, and target market. Unlike any other devices that Apple decide and unify system specs for manufacturing in order to maximal optimisation and cost effectiveness, but this is not the same for auto manufacturers.
    2) there has to be a default/base system for the auto to control vehicle settings (audio, drive mode, climate control, language, etc etc) which doesn't require any mobile device or connectivity. which means manufacturers will always have to spend developing their own system and fees for adopting mobile car OS.
    3) This is similar to number 2. Android auto and Apple Carplay will always have limited function since manufacturers will not let drivers to control everything via these systems for security reason. and neither Google or Apple will grant full access to manufacturers to modify/customise functions and features.
    4) Manufacturers don't want to be dependent on Auto or CarPlay, because the more dependent they get Google and Apple have more service fee negotiation leverage
    5) The more autonomous driving capability a vehicle has, it has to use GPS and map service (also for HUD system) on top of many sensors like radar, radar, cameras, etc and this brings technical and legal limitation to use third party (other than their own system unless they codeveloped with either one) OS.

I just wish CarPlay would have an option to NOT automatically start playing the first song alphabetically in my iTunes library EVERY TIME I use it. It still amazes me how that ever got through user testing in the first place. Searching on Google you can see it's a long-standing issue with a number of hacks to get around it, including making empty music tracks or making Shortcut scripts. Not what I expect in an Apple product, it makes me wonder if the reason is related to the car manufacturer's software implementation (which are notoriously terrible.)

Greetings. I’m a Lyft driver. My passengers and I like listening to Sirius XM while driving. I also use Google maps through CarPlay for navigation. I’ve recently noticed my navigation alerts are interrupting my Sirius XM music requiring me to constantly restart my Sirius channel. I’ve also noticed volume changes in my Google maps navigation alerts. This is a problem. I noticed these issues just within the last month or so. I use an iPhone 13 with the most current operating system 16.2. I drive a 2022 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid with the most recent infotainment system. At a loss for a fix. I’m confident it lies (sp?) in CarPlay and not a problem with Sirius XM or Hyundai. I’ve looked through all of the Carplay and Google maps switches for a possible remedy to no avail. Suggestions?

I've put CarPlay into the last three cars I've owned (older ones that I used Sony XAV-*** head units to enable the feature, first with a cplay2air wireless adapter then the wireless integrated Sony XAV-AX6000 I'm using now) and I can't go back to not having it. I think the main issue with car manufacturers implementing the feature is they can’t expect users to use CarPlay or android auto so they will always have to make their own software that can run independently of a phone. The investment of time and money they put into their own systems that *will* be used instead of the CarPlay system that *might* be used is a no brainer. The solutions I see are car manufacturers take the hit and prioritise both their own system and the integration of apple and android, sacrifice development time on their built in systems in favour of integrating apple and android, or apple and android allow their systems to work with cars without the use of a phone so manufacturers never need to make their own systems at all. This is a bit dicey though because apple would need to allow an android phone to connect to a CarPlay equipped car to stream music and maps etc, and vice-versa with android. That doesn't look likely anytime soon, so I expect the full integrated CarPlay to be only present in premium automobiles if it is available at all.

I use CarPlay and only CarPlay in my car if the radio is powered on. I have an aftermarket wireless adapter, but have to plug in if the phone needs charging. Prior to having the wireless, and whenever I plug in my phone now, I will forget to take my phone with me when leaving the car. This is where having wireless CarPlay and wireless charging from the manufacturer comes in. I hope to have these features in my next car, but they are still not so common. I would never buy a car without CarPlay.

You nailed it! Fully agree. Thank you for doing this video! 1- Apps like Waze and Spotify have gone downhill after the IOS 13 update, you have to do some funky stuff to make them work properly now, as far as I know, this still has not been corrected, why? 2- They are contradicting themselves by trying to use an integrated system in your car using touchscreen apps, I may be in the small percentile, but when I want to adjust the temperature in my vehicle, I want a button, not going through a bunch of convoluted touchscreen antics, I just want it to happen. Drivers are already distracted enough, let's not go that route, with having to navigate menus to make something simple happen....Apple....you can be better than this! Yet they limited you what is possible with carplay, which leads me to... 3- I could dive into it more, but when something words, leave it alone, yes offer functionality, but don't destroy the purpose of what it was meant for originally. On a side note (that you kinda of mentioned), CarPlay is far more capable than most people think it is, we are just limited to a simple functionality that could be so much more. (...and YES!, you can watch videos when you are sitting parked on your vehicles screen, if you jailbreak, which should not be needed at all, but they just chose to not allow it at all for the general public, which does not make any sense. [END OF RANT]

I think the problem is more the users. The majority of people don’t even use 75% of the features of their iPhone. They don’t even take the time to learn how so every time the owner do something new it’s only a hope that somebody would actually use it.
Discuss the same for cars as they get smarter and smarter people use less and less of the features because they simply don’t understand them or don’t take the time to learn them, how many people use the active cruise control and other features that are cars very few because they just don’t understand it and don’t take the time to learn it. Plus there’s dozens of other features. These cars have that most people don’t even know so until people take the time to learn what they have they’re not gonna push for something new simple.
