We had a constant collective confusion. So when the ending came up one dude just went “wait what?” And then the entire theatre burst into assorted confusion. And then we left. Disappointed yet oh so satisfied.

Grudge 3 had one of the scariest scene out of any horror movie ive watched. The part when the doctor was running from kayako in the psych ward literally made me shit myself.

And the multiple victims of the Grudge spread the curse everywhere. It's a guaranteed end-of-the-world scenario, assuming there is no way to stop the curse (which isn't touched on in the Japanese films AFAIK). The original Japanese films hinted at this, with entire neighborhoods depopulated and littered with Missing Persons posters.

Remember when the grudge was a Japanese family who had a decent story and went for a sense of dread throughout the story rather than jump scares?

Believe it or not Ju-on the grudge genuinely is based on a true story.
I remember finding out from some Japanese ghost RUclips channel that went to the Grudge house a couple years before it was completely condemned / destroyed.
Even now seeing certain parts from the film & actual proof of her on cam & most times I see her, my blood goes completely cold practically…. Insanely sad + harrowing outcome for that family I honestly hope her & her son is living happily. Where-ever they may be now.
I'd love to see Angry Joe and his pals go to a metal concert. That sounds like fun.
But this film, isn't fun.

I liked both equally and actually didn't mind the Rings movie from a couple years ago. Ive found plenty of movies entertaining that AJ shits on. But I have no hope for this one

The one before this grudge,scared the living hell out of me,I was afraid to use the shower for weeks,or even go to bed,ofc I was like 12 when I watched it
I was in my late teenage years when I caught up on the grudges and ju on movies (ju on Japanese grudge movies) and that version of the grudge terrified me to the core where the moment I closed my eyes I saw flashes of her and her son very clearly. Scared me liked hell

I was surprised by that. Granted, it's been years since I've seen it, but I remember loving it. He does listen to heavy metal so classical music might not be something he enjoys.

Yeah Amadeus was a masterpiece and the performances are phenomenal.
@@brandynicole7410 it's kinda accepted in the metal comunity that if you like metal and don't like classical music, you're a try hard that actually don't know about music, since metal is exactly like classic music un it's composition, with the difference being the instruments.

Personally, I had low standards since the beginning

Actually it takes place during the events of the other American Grudge films.
That's the Grudge 3 that movie trash but I even consider that movie over this one.

Just finished watching it I agree with Joe it's trash there were some scenes that almost felt intense but got cut short and the girl and the cat boy aren't even in the movie which makes it suck even more

Shame, I feel like the Grudge universe has alot of potential.
I mean so does the American Ring series, problem is American Studios are more focusing on jump scares than an actual story.

The movie was fine. All of these critics are just jumping on the “January movie sucks” bandwagon.
Seriously, compared to other recent films like “happy death day 2 U”, “countdown”, “black Christmas”, and “crawl” - this was a fine movie.
I do not understand how this guy can sit on “suicide squads” dick, and then turn around and say a movie like the Grudge is “a waste of time”.
If you are looking for a cliche Jump scare film that’s a solid 5-5.5/10 then The Grudge will be fine for you.
If you’re looking for compelling world building and layers of story then this movie will disappoint you. But who goes to a film like this for anything more than temporary moments of surprise?
They’re acting like they expected “Hereditary” levels of atmosphere and terror, but it’s the fucking Grudge. It has never ever been anything more than jump scare bullshit.

I dont think it can go any further. It had its time back in the 2000s and they didnt even explore it that much. It was basically the same thing. They could have done something different like actually trying to break the course like in the ring
Chris Ramirez that’s why Japanese did it better. The story with them was really creepy and the set ups was great compared to the American ones
Saw this on Saturday. One part that made me laugh was when Elyse jumps off the staircase and when she landed my friend says "She's a ketchup packet." We both lost it at this point. I turned to him afterwards once the credits started and say "Reece... we paid money to see this."

The original, Ju-On: The Grudge, is multiple stories based on a Japanese Yo-Kai. Of people who die horrible deaths and become spirits. There was quite a bit more to it than killing and such.

So, you're saying the Japanese don't have their fans and they don't cater to those fans? Ever seen a Yakuza game? Most Japanese media is shit, IMHO and by evidence of this film, the US should just ban Japanese influenced media from EVER entering the States.

We got Dragon Ball Super Broly January 2019 though
Matthew Torres Well, yeah that movie was pretty good. But my point is January has more BAD movies than good ones and unfortunately, that Dragon Ball Super film was the first movie of January in a while that I came out of and said “Wow, that was awesome!”
Other than that, (not all of them, but...) the majority of films released during this month are just a waste of money and a waste of time.
The first warning signs wasn't that it was in January, but that there hasn't been a new iteration of this series in almost 11 years. It's pretty clear that, in combo with this being a January movie, it was just a way to keep the movie rights more than likely
Wow I'm here earlier than I've ever been for any movie.
I still remember the end scene from the original Japanese Grudge, the one of the dump... now that was an ending. That wasn't the only amazing shot from the original, the attic being full of corpses in bags was also interesting. A real grudge vs ring would be far more interesting than this pos, since both were originally Japanese horror movies. Btw, the apparitions in both movies are ghosts (Yūrei,) vengeful spirits to be more accurate. They are basically revenants that come back through the power of rage and they spend their afterlife consuming the the life force of anyone who wronged them. Entering their domain is similar to the mummies curse you see in Egyptian mythos, the curse sticks to you and will follow you no matter how far you go. As far as the Grudge goes, the reason they don't outright kill people is because they take a while to gain enough strength to kill them (draining their life slowly and driving them insane.) Even though all the ghosts are killers (minus the boy) they aren't all that bad. Don't get me wrong, they will still kill the cursed, eventually, but only the source of the curse actually has the power to outright kill the cursed. That is usually the mother, but it can also be the husband that killed his family. Everyone else involved, the other cursed who died and were brought back by the power of the grudge, are just there to drive the new cursed more insane (making it easier for the source to kill them.) The Ring is similar to this in that the girl is also a vengeful spirit, but her domain is the video. Moral of the story, always have a Shinto priest with you when watching odd videos and entering random houses ;p

Know I'm commenting extremely late, but this isn't really a remake or hard reboot. It's a soft reboot that's a "sidequel" to the original Grudge. The maid who gets killed in the attic in the first is even name-dropped in the beginning.
Don't know what the timeline is for 2 and 3, but happening parallel to 1 was the only main connection anyway.

I remember actual Roman Candles that fired real fireworks. It's a pity there are too many Tide-pod smokers in this world who ruin it for the rest of us by forcing fireworks companies to start manufacturing "safe" alternatives like the one you showed in this video.

I honestly liked this movie. I really appreciated the lack of LOUD NOISES every time something happened. I feel like the timeline was a little all over the place though.

First movie I walked out of super early. I usually can sit through a pretty bad movie, but I was easily 25 minutes into it and just thought, “How was this not a direct-to-video film?” Good thing it was a free screening for me. 🤦🏻♂️

The thing in Japan with the baseball was not for the new Grudge it was for the release of Sadako vs Kayako (The Ring vs The Grudge) and they were advertising the hell out of the film especially since those two are big horror films

Worst thing about the movie is that Kayako only appears briefly in the BEGINNING OF THE FILM AND THEN SHE'S GONE FOR THE REST OF THE FILM
Sounds like the problem with this Grudge was the same problem I had with the other grudge movies. Kayako is supposed to be this vengeful spirit but when it comes to the main characters of the movies she would fuck around so much. Also she has no restrictions to what she can do. She can appear from literally anywhere and do literally anything.
