  • An update on our off grid cabin build! We have been making progress on the cabin and wanted to share it with you. One big step is having solar power!!! Our small solar system is set up and running. We also have the board on board hemlock wood siding on the cabin. Finally, we have finished the insulation so our cabin will be warm and cozy this winter.
    Our solar set up and propane units were purchased at the cabin depot: www.thecabindepot.ca/backtoth...

    Do you have double glazing, or how do you keep the heat from escaping.

    Sorry to tell you this but you do not put water in lithium ion batteries. Not sure, but at a glance, yours looked like lead acid batteries, which DO need water. However, it's not good to have lead acid batteries IN the house, as they leach out dangerous gases.

    • @Off-Grid
      @Off-Grid Год назад +1

      We have AGM Lead Acid in our house. Of course AGM is sealed so there's no gassing unless you over heat them and they pop.

    Hi, just discovered your channel. Thank you for all your videos, it's really interesting to watch. I might have missed the video where you mentioned the cost of the land you purchased and how much was it to build the cabit (at the stage that it is now).

    • @backtothelandliving

      Hi, glad to have you following along! I have talked about the land in some of my older videos. My parents own 75 acres of forest and allowed us to build on their land, which we are so grateful for! Our original budget was $40,000 CAD, however we priced everything before the pandemic so things went up quite a bit. Right now we have spent that budget and still have a little ways to go so we will be going over. Most of our large purchases are done, so hopefully we will be able to keep it under $50,000. I plan to do a video on cost once we are complete, however I can say we saved A LOT by shopping second hand and doing the work ourselves with family. Thanks for watching!

    nice project !, 2 questions, how did you isolate your floor ? and how did you vent your roof ?

    • @backtothelandliving
      @backtothelandliving  Год назад +1

      Thanks! The floor is not yet insulted, but is on the list to do. We will be putting insulation under the floor of the cabin and also foam insulation on the subfloor, under the flooring. The roof is vented with true vents between the roof and insulation and we have venting under the eaves, which allows for air circulation. I hope this helps, thanks for watching!

    Are you going to live here full time when it's finished or will this always be for part time living?

    • @backtothelandliving
      @backtothelandliving  Год назад

      At this point in our life it will be just for part time living as we live on ranch where we work, about 1 1/2 hours away. Thanks for watching!
