    Great tip!! This relay is often the source of problems on all cars equipped with Free Choice-derived AMT systems! It takes a fairly hard hit every time the motor pump is actuated and can get its internal contacts worn really bad over time. Just a small reminder, 70A relays are also usually the same size, and there's absolutely no harm in upgrading it even further. I usually go for the 70A on my repairs. Again, great tip!!

      Good call Sam and I agree completely! If I could get a 70 amp I would use it but for 27$ for the BMW E36 ABS relay, you can't go wrong!
      There are some vendors out there that sell solid-state relay replacement kits. I was thinking it would be a good video to compare SSRs VS electromechanical relays and how they pertain to the E gear pump.

    Hello friend I always follow you from Italy! My E-Gear drives me crazy, it often happens to me that the 5th gear does not engage and goes into N and once it happened to me that I had to stop and have the pump recharged to be able to disengage the gear! It's like sometimes he doesn't have the strength to put the car into gear.
    Help me?❤️

    • @TheBullRider
      @TheBullRider  Год назад

      Hi Angelonero, it sounds like you have an issue in one of three areas. 1. Not enough E gear fluid. 2. A bad E gear pump that wont allow your system to build adequate pressure or 3. A bad E gear accumulator.
      Your best bet is to read e gear pressures with a diagnostic system like TEXA or LaRa to determine the true cause of your problem!

    Thanks man. Just ordered one from your link. E gear sign came on the dashabout a week ago. Reset e gear. Then today it wouldn’t shift into gear or reverse. Turned car off/on, worked fine. But I’d hate to be stuck somewhere and it doesn’t reset as easily. Time to upgrade.

    Hey Richard, does one have to disconnect the battery to change relay? & what are your thoughts on the Smart eMT Relay ECU made by scuding?

    • @TheBullRider
      @TheBullRider  Год назад +1

      Forgiato, no you don't have to disconnect the battery. Just leave the key out of the ignition and you will be set. I like that relay from an engineering perspective however in real-world use, I think it's a bit overkill for the application.
      Save your money and get the OEM relay and use what you have left to take your significant other out to a nice restaurant!

    Great info Richard, I had a battery failure(2012 LP-550) a few days ago and now I have e gear warning light and and won't start the engine. I replaced to the new battery still no luck. connected obdII erase the e gear fault code still won't start. e gear pump still primes when i reconnect the battery also when I the open door. Do you think this is relay problem? In worst case, I will have to tow my car to the shop :(

    • @TheBullRider
      @TheBullRider  Год назад

      VooDoo, that is no good! I don't think it is a relay problem. For your car, you will need a more advanced scanner like VCDS or TEXA to remove the fault with the transmission ECU. Always keep your car on a tender if you dont have one already!!

    I have been having this very intermittent issue for 3 years now where if I'm at a complete stop it won't allow me to put it into gear. It happens about 1% of the time, as long as I'm slightly rolling it never does it. Wonder if it could be this relay acting up...

    • @TheBullRider
      @TheBullRider  Год назад

      Brandon, that odd behavior happens to me too sometimes. For me, it doesn't like to go into first, skips a gear, and picks second. Then I have to go back down into first! Odd right?

    My gallardo spyder 2007 recently had battery charging issue and after jump starting it, I drove it out of the parking lot and heard some strange noise behind my rhd driver seat. The egear then pop out into N and refused to go into first or reverse. The car was restarted when the toll truck arrived and this time it managed to go to gear. It is at a local garage now where they changed the battery but again it refused to go into gear. It is awaiting further investigation from the shop. Thanks Richard if you might have any insight! 😊

      @@r8database Oh I see! I would say atleast 10 minutes. You might be loosing e gear fluid pressure in your accumulator. Its a common fault in these cars. More of a service item than anything really.

    • @TheBullRider

      I didnt notice anything like that Vinny. Sometimes increased pump priming times have to do with a failing accumulator.
