+Christian Björk dorah the explorer is teaching kids if you scream the solution at the screen its gonna happen, why its not helping here? :P and what is this game trying to say about seperating white and black?
+Karmanade Or that time when Jesse followed the dead power cable out of the shack when there was a green powered cable off the very puzzle he played.... I was screaming at the screen.
+TheNovicek You know, it wasn't even that bad from the second half on, but some of them... where he even understood the mechanics and just went completely against them. Oh boy.
+Elite Salad Would you like Jesse to play Subnautica for fan friday? Then you're in luck! Request it here: twitter.com/JesseCox www.reddit.com/r/Shaboozey/
+Ethan he was thinking normally but then he had to think even harder on how to search for the answer and then edit the video as smoothly as possible so someone could barely notice the cut at 21:25.
This would be awesome as a series. I'd sub for that without a doubt. I only have to make sure I stay ahead of what he's done so far in game. shouldn't be too much trouble. ;)
57:50 The cut off branch was on the right on the tree, but on the left on the screen. You were looking at the tree from behind, so you just had to flip the branches around (as you did, by accident).
+Emanuel Hoogeveen It killed me how he didn't realize it. When he went behind the tree briefly the branches lined up the way they did on the sign so I thought he was going to realize the podium thing was showing him what angle to look at the tree. Really he shoulda gotten that from the ones with apples too but I _really_ thought he was going to get it then. Ahhhh, oh well.
i have never wanted to see you continue a fan friday this much ever before... the perfect blend of Jessie and puzzles *q* there are things to find Jessie! so many THINGS!
i do honestly believe ppl asked jesse bc that's just the kind of viewers he has. i think like him too much to ever be more than just confused along with him. thanks as always jesse!
Please continue this series, this is very interesting to watch and yell at my screen like a maniac when you have the puzzle solved to the last point and you go back on it and stumble on yourself :)
I hope companies understand how good lets plays like these are good for sales. I bought this game literally so I could see the puzzles solved in less than an hour.
YOU MUST CONTINUE THIS!!!!!! For reals now, you were actually not that bad, I stayed for like 2 more hours to get to where you are, so I think you are pretty good actually! Very entertaining commentary too, so please, try to make this a series if you can.
Even though you took a while with some of these puzzles Jesse, I really think you ended up doing really well overall to get through and actually complete so many of them! Good job~
You're definitely way better at puzzle games than you give yourself credit for. I would've closed the game as soon as they started introducing invisible lines. x_x
+Timmothy Galvan Yeah I'm honestly surprised that he made that leap in logic because I never would have to begin with. On the other hand, he never seems to think about brute forcing his way through some of these puzzles, which I definitely would have on the apple tree puzzles.
+Kraigon42 He did get the solution to one of them for the wrong reason (the one where he made up some thing with perspective rather than looking at which branch was broken off and matching it with the screen) and then he struggled with the next puzzle because he hadn't learnt all of the steps. He basically did brute force both of them after that.
Patrik Manni Sort of, but I consider those more luck than actually brute forcing an answer because a lot of the puzzles he'd try a second (or third) time and try the exact same solution that didn't work the first time, rather than going through and eliminating possibilities.
+HeapOfBones Oh, heck yes! I think next time Jesse does a puzzle game, I'm going record my reactions and post it on youtube. I LOSE MY MIND when he does that.
AHHHHhhhhhhhhhhh I'm loving this game so far! Puzzles are simple, sure, but the way it just drops you into the world to figure everything out for yourself... That video about halfway through...! :'D It's awesome!~
+Jan Sten Adámek Fun you said that. I have heard people say the opposite. That this one got story.. :P Im going to watch the video now and will see :) Ok, done. Not even near Talos. Were are the story in this one?
Jori Diculous Well, I haven't seen any story in the 90 minutes Jesse played it, just three philosophical messages (which The Talos Principle also has quite a lot), The Talos Principle has a story right from the beginning.
Jori Diculous Now that I think of it, it may have been that those people only played the demo of Talos. IIRC there is no story in the demo, you need the full version.
Jan Sten Adámek Ive newer played the demo so cant say. But full game is riddled with story fragments all over the place. Lost of them are puzzles them selves or just smal secrets. But whats its all about i couldnt tell. Not even started on second part of the world :P
I think you did pretty well! I'm impressed you didn't write down the ones you had to remember and do completely backwards. I for sure would've written those down. Well done, Jesse!
Jesse, please do a followup episode for this game. Sure, you are bad at puzzles, but your genuine curiosity and thirst for knowledge made this a delightful video to watch.
I'd like to see a record of the 'individuals' that requested Jesse play a puzzle game. I certainly don't see the requests on videos, or on twitter, or on his Reddit. JUST WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE JESSE!?
+SARGIEAN I for one have personally organized numerous letter-writing campaigns to get Mr. Cox to play puzzle games as his dearest fans desire. There is a certain quaint charm to the smooth ink of a fountain pen on parchment that can convince even the most headstrong of individuals to attempt to complete excruciating tasks. What you have seen here is a testament to the power of a well-written, personalized letter.
ahhh ... after banging my head over and over against the sunken ship puzzle for about 4 hours it feels good to watch Jesse struggle on the tutorial puzzles. C:
A slightly rough start but in reality, Jesse's actually really good at solving puzzles. May take a minute but usually he's good at picking up on really subtle conveyance so I knew this would be worth watching, and it was ^.^
+TheAzertjuh Certainly far less imagination in the art and the puzzles. Heck it doesn't even have any music, I played it with my own music, the claims it needed silence were nonsense.
Holy hell, this game looks like it has the most boring puzzles I've sene in a long time, set in one of the most gorgeous video game worlds ever designed. That's such a shame.
+AFortifiedBatcave Well, I bought both of them so I feel like I can state my personal opinion on this. The Witness isn't shit, ok? It's a decent puzzle game. But it's not satisfying to solve the puzzles, and it gets boring because everything is a variation on the same puzzle. And the super vague story, if you can call it a story, isn't enough to keep me interested. So I think it's overrated, because you know, IGN gave this 10/10 "A Masterpiece".
Well now you're actually putting stock in reviews. Which is silly in the day of livestreams when you can just watch someone play the game and get your impression from that
I like these puzzles, because they're not immediately obvious. Everyone yelling likely noticed the right answer while watching Jesse fail - They have the benefit of not needing to go through failure themselves. XD
I loved Jesse accidentally solving some of these puzzles and coming up with total guesses as to how it was done. Even though he was wrong for almost all of them, it was still amazing to see him make it so far. Great job sticking with it.
@59:45 Tree puzzle without the apple. Solution: I'm pretty sure this puzzle is about figuring out which branch is missing from the tree, but is present on the control board. That missing branch is the place you have to go to instead of the apple. So that would mean it's the 6th from the right. (I deducted this purely from the video footage as I've myself never went to this part of the game yet)
@ 1:01:30 is hinting that the shape of trees is best suited for water supple from the roots the same way blood vessels are which is why their shapes are very similar.
I felt pretty damn smart watching him struggle through. I hope Jesse comes back to it, it was fun to watch him fail over and over again. And then listen to him get excited, overcoming the puzzles.
27:04 jesse takes two minuets to solve a puzzle with only 4 possible solutions by mistake, after trying the same option 3 times :P (poor jesse, puzzle games are not for you but the cruel viewers won't let you leave). I do think it is easier to see the solution when you are just watching than when you are playing the game. But anyway this is such a nice looking game, they pull off cell shading so nicely :P thank you for showing me these games in fan-friday jesse.
i just watched someone else's gameplay of the witness, and Jesse's video was less frustrating to watch for me. he doesn't overthink things, he just does it.
Jesse: "Am I trying to get the apple?" Me: Wow he figured that out quick Jesse: "I clearly have no clue what that means" *walks away* Me: "But... what.... how...." O.o
This is such a relaxing game to watch. Also, there're already speedruns of this. Current unofficial WR (the game still isn't submitted) at any% (getting to the ending doing the minimal required amount of puzzles) is like 35 minutes :D Don't let that discourage you though :)
The second to last tree was mirrored compared to the display, and the last tree had a branch missing that was not represented as missing on the display.
Jesse: "What am I trying to do here?.... oh am I trying to get the apple?" Me: "Looks like it." Jesse: •tries every path but the apple's path• "I need to learn about this puzzle." •walks away• Me: "Fucking hell Jesse!!" •It's lucky we you• :)
interesting observation: Jesse have a trouble with adding and recognizing recently used patterns, he still uses quite sofisticated patterns, but it seems he have a need to invent them again. Here it helps him sometimes, sometimes harms, but it curious imho.
Jesse, sometime we just want to enjoy the struggle. Thank you for accommodating your fan base with another entertaining run, Sir. Even if it's not in your wheelhouse, it's still entertaining to watch.
This is a fucking torture, how could I last so long, there is no joy in watching this. Don't do this ever again, or I'll have to forget about you forever.
Hah, this was good fun. Going to finish the game soon myself, have around 400+50 solved atm - was fun watching Jesse stumble around. He brute forced a few puzzles there, which in a proper play-through would be a really bad idea, since all the subsequent puzzles build on the previously gained knowledge.
"Alright we have to do some crazy mechanics" For the love of all that's holy just go all the way up on the side! "and this is the maneuver that you have to do" For the love of god it's the one you attempted before! Just go under it first! "Oooooooh we did it" No bad, you do not get to be proud about that! .... i need popcorn for this
+Jesse Cox I'm so glad they recommended you played a puzzle game. As soon as I saw the upload I grabbed some popcorn, got a soda, shoved a lump of coal up my butt and enjoyed. Now that I've finished the video, I have no popcorn or soda but I do have a nice diamond.
I had to watch this for game development class. I have never felt the urge to comment on a video, but him doing the blue puzzles when they first introduced white and black was one of the most painful things that I have ever watched.
So thirty minutes in and I realized something that makes these puzzles easier to visualize (for me at least) don't think about getting the dots not to touch, just focus on which side of the line you needs the dots to be on.
*Jesse:* "So we gotta go like this..."
*Me:* "No..."
*Jesse:* "So we gotta go like th..."
*Me:* "No... if you would just take a seco..."
*Jesse:* "So we gotta go li..."
*Me:* "NO JUST STOP GOD DAMMIT"
*Jesse:* "Ohh, maybe if we go lik... shit, nevermind"
*Me:* *Flips Table*
+Karmanade haha yeah pretty much :P
+Christian Björk dorah the explorer is teaching kids if you scream the solution at the screen its gonna happen, why its not helping here? :P and what is this game trying to say about seperating white and black?
+Karmanade At 1:15:30 he just needed to go UP, its was done, JUST GO UP JESSE....oh god
+Allan Costa That was so awful to watch...
+Karmanade Or that time when Jesse followed the dead power cable out of the shack when there was a green powered cable off the very puzzle he played.... I was screaming at the screen.
WHO TOLD JESSE TO PLAY A PUZZLE GAME?! The buttclench is real... -_-
+TheNovicek You know, it wasn't even that bad from the second half on, but some of them... where he even understood the mechanics and just went completely against them. Oh boy.
Yes it is
+TheNovicek Now we need to tell Jesse to play Subnautica.
john bain should play this next
fan Friday has become the only series of Jesse's that I watch but imo it is by far the best!
and with the best intro!!!
+Billy Spencer very true
+Elite Salad Same, unless Skyrim comes back modded.
+Jeff Bond yeah we need sky rim back- that last episode was so sudden.
+Elite Salad Would you like Jesse to play Subnautica for fan friday? Then you're in luck! Request it here:
twitter.com/JesseCox www.reddit.com/r/Shaboozey/
Anyone else yelling at the screen watching Jesse screw up a solution that he almost had?
I think I did through most of this.
!
+Eric Kelly i do that in most of his video's to be fair...
+Eric Kelly It's a lot easier to think straight when you're not on camera, and under pressure to talk for an audience!
+Eric Kelly I think we all were. Multiple times.
You should make Scary Game Squad into Puzzle Game Squad and make this a series.
+Matthew Schell that is the true horror XD
+Matthew Schell That actually may be quite entertaining. DO IT MAGICAL ORANGE BEARDED MAN!
+Matthew Schell They wouldn't have to change the name. Their inability to solve puzzles will be the scary part!
Alex would carry them though...
+markhodges12 Force them to take turns solving puzzles.
witness me witnessing the witness.
+Matthew Stearns I Witness, I witness, I witness again
+Matthew Stearns witness me witnessing Fan Friday on friday
+Matthew Stearns
I dont want to witness anymore, too much butt clenching... :'(
+Matthew Stearns
no no no - they are
+Matthew Stearns WITNESSED!
"How did that even happen? I just had to think for a minute" Jesse why aren't you thinking normally?
Because he's Jesse?
+Ethan he was thinking normally but then he had to think even harder on how to search for the answer and then edit the video as smoothly as possible so someone could barely notice the cut at 21:25.
This would be awesome as a series. I'd sub for that without a doubt. I only have to make sure I stay ahead of what he's done so far in game. shouldn't be too much trouble. ;)
Jesse.I freaking love your theory-crafting skills.
That beard of yours gives you powers.
Or those majors in history and stuff.
+Super Nofa Knowledge is never useless if you stop equating it in terms of its ability to make money.
+OriginalRAB ^ this.
+Super Nofa In that case your just wrong. No offense intended.
+Super Nofa The real question is, what's more useful, a degree in history, or a majestic beard?
+Jeff Bond can one truly exist without the other?
Oh god, no, please no, do I dare watch this?..
+Makkovar Its pretty rough at first but he comes through mostly.
lately Jesse has been on top of his Fan Friday videos...good work....for now.
57:50 The cut off branch was on the right on the tree, but on the left on the screen. You were looking at the tree from behind, so you just had to flip the branches around (as you did, by accident).

i have never wanted to see you continue a fan friday this much ever before... the perfect blend of Jessie and puzzles *q* there are things to find Jessie! so many THINGS!
Guilty of losing my mind at 19:30 mark xD
absolutely. almost unbearable.
Please make more of these. This is the perfect way to experience this game.
17:30 The Buttclenching is REAL.
+Azure It's interesting to see Jesse get stuck in the same opening move and thén try to diversify. It... eh.. hehe... puzzled me. Myes myes.
Louie Berg The kicker is he worked it out in the previous puzzle for what needed to be done in that one.
+Azure Keemstar had problems with that one too :d
+Azure 23:43, 32:48
I spazzed so hard seeing how close he was but he still didn't realize it.
i do honestly believe ppl asked jesse bc that's just the kind of viewers he has. i think like him too much to ever be more than just confused along with him. thanks as always jesse!
18:54 "so this is the maneuver you HAVE to do to do this!" NO IT FUCKING ISNT
Please continue this series, this is very interesting to watch and yell at my screen like a maniac when you have the puzzle solved to the last point and you go back on it and stumble on yourself :)

+Kraigon42 He did get the solution to one of them for the wrong reason (the one where he made up some thing with perspective rather than looking at which branch was broken off and matching it with the screen) and then he struggled with the next puzzle because he hadn't learnt all of the steps. What a fantastic little piece of art. Thanks for showing us this Jesse
this was painful to watch xD
+Alex Austin Yes the butts have been clenched. Hell of a workout. Near constipation. XD
Most painful, I think, is when Jesse does something right and then backtracks. :D
+Alex Austin the butt clenching is real.
+HeapOfBones Oh, heck yes! I think next time Jesse does a puzzle game, I'm going record my reactions and post it on youtube. I LOSE MY MIND when he does that.
+Alex Austin People should stop requesting games that Jesse is not good at.
ohhh this episode was golden. ohhh the finest of episodes. thank you jesse.
35:40 *Says solution* WELP NO IDEA WHAT THIS COULD BE
AHHHHhhhhhhhhhhh I'm loving this game so far! Puzzles are simple, sure, but the way it just drops you into the world to figure everything out for yourself... That video about halfway through...! :'D It's awesome!~
Wow, this game really reminds me of The Talos Principle, except it does not have its clever story. Maybe try that as well?
+Jan Sten Adámek Fun you said that. I have heard people say the opposite. That this one got story.. :P
Im going to watch the video now and will see :) Ok, done. Not even near Talos. Were are the story in this one?
Jori Diculous Well, I haven't seen any story in the 90 minutes Jesse played it, just three philosophical messages (which The Talos Principle also has quite a lot), The Talos Principle has a story right from the beginning.
+Jan Sten Adámek I swear the only thing I see when I look at this game IS the Talos Principle.
Full play through?
Jesse, please do a followup episode for this game. Sure, you are bad at puzzles, but your genuine curiosity and thirst for knowledge made this a delightful video to watch.
You were actually pretty good at this game.
no he wasnt
This is one of the hardest things Ive ever watched and I'm only 20 mins in so far.... still love ya Jesse.
Jesse: *goes the right way*
Me: YES!
Jesse: *Immediately backtracks and goes wrong way*
Me: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
I'd like to see a record of the 'individuals' that requested Jesse play a puzzle game. I certainly don't see the requests on videos, or on twitter, or on his Reddit. JUST WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE JESSE!?
+SARGIEAN Probably Emails to his youtube or other accounts.
+SARGIEAN He does have friends and coworkers. And all of them would troll him with something like this.
+SARGIEAN Maybe the friends are the dollars in his pocket? Conspiracy!
+SARGIEAN It is obvious. The commenters that get through are purely figures of his sub concious. We see only a man talking to himself. ;)
"am I sappose to get the apple?"
*hits everyone except the apple*
gg jesse -.-
The frustrating part isn't how long Jesse takes to solve puzzles, but how quickly he forgets any solutions learned when he failed/succeeded.
Wow Jesse... It's a good thing you're so pretty.
Man, Fan Fridays are my go to while I wait for your Dishonored 2 gameplay.
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results see time frame 18:10 - 21:35 for a prime example. :\
Jesse actually uploading fan Fridays on Friday instead of Saturday or Thursday has completely thrown off my video watching schedule
"There's gonna be that one guy in the comments losing their mind"
...yeah... only *ONE* guy :P
ahhh ... after banging my head over and over against the sunken ship puzzle for about 4 hours it feels good to watch Jesse struggle on the tutorial puzzles. C:
I'm losing my mind
I'm genuinely getting angry
+CheerfulSmilingEd i need to sort my shit out
Good job with those puzzles Jesse!
A slightly rough start but in reality, Jesse's actually really good at solving puzzles. May take a minute but usually he's good at picking up on really subtle conveyance so I knew this would be worth watching, and it was ^.^
I love Jesse's growth through the game.
"I suck at puzzle games"
to
"Easy. C'mon. Get outta here game."
So its like... A less pretty Myst?
+Dwarfurious With less story, somehow.
+Dwarfurious LESS pretty? WTF
+TheAzertjuh Its a troll comment
+TheAzertjuh Certainly far less imagination in the art and the puzzles. Heck it doesn't even have any music, I played it with my own music, the claims it needed silence were nonsense.
Jeremiah Tothenations I disagree fully :) I think it music would ruin the atmosphere.
I just watched one and half hours of you solvong puzzles. I require more.
Holy hell, this game looks like it has the most boring puzzles I've sene in a long time, set in one of the most gorgeous video game worlds ever designed. That's such a shame.
Cosmic Spark
They're literally iOS puzzles though.
+atomheartother To top it all off, the world is the most sterile and lifeless place I've ever inhabited, playing it in VR would be some kind of hell.
I love watching you play puzzle games, I'm relatively good at puzzle games so it's fun to watch you try and solve them and get frustrated :3
This game is so overrated. A beautiful world filled with puzzles stolen from a mobile game and with no story. Only $40! Blow me, Mr. Blow.
+mrbitbot A beautiful world filled with puzzles that gradually get more and more complex? What's wrong with that if someone wants it?
+AFortifiedBatcave What's wrong is that someone already did it better, it's called The Talos Principle. And it has a story.
so don't buy The Witness and enjoy Talos
+AFortifiedBatcave Well, I bought both of them so I feel like I can state my personal opinion on this. The Witness isn't shit, ok? It's a decent puzzle game. But it's not satisfying to solve the puzzles, and it gets boring because everything is a variation on the same puzzle. And the super vague story, if you can call it a story, isn't enough to keep me interested. So I think it's overrated, because you know, IGN gave this 10/10 "A Masterpiece".

I like these puzzles, because they're not immediately obvious. Everyone yelling likely noticed the right answer while watching Jesse fail - They have the benefit of not needing to go through failure themselves. XD
More Witness, please! Love watching Jesse do puzzles!
I loved Jesse accidentally solving some of these puzzles and coming up with total guesses as to how it was done. Even though he was wrong for almost all of them, it was still amazing to see him make it so far. Great job sticking with it.
I am soooo playing this game. Beautiful and mysterious.
@59:45 Tree puzzle without the apple.
Solution:
I'm pretty sure this puzzle is about figuring out which branch is missing from the tree, but is present on the control board. That missing branch is the place you have to go to instead of the apple. So that would mean it's the 6th from the right. (I deducted this purely from the video footage as I've myself never went to this part of the game yet)

"Am I trying to get the apple?" YES HE NOTICED, "I clearly have no clue what that means" *cries single tear
21:35 When the realization hit him that he got it. Amazing lol. Can't wait to watch the next hour.
i just watched someone else's gameplay of the witness, and Jesse's video was less frustrating to watch for me. he doesn't overthink things, he just does it.
I only yelled at my screen like 5 or 6 times lmfao
All in all, good job Jesse!
1:00:00 Jesse it was the branch that was broken on the tree but not on the puzzle.
Jesse: "Am I trying to get the apple?"
Me: Wow he figured that out quick
Jesse: "I clearly have no clue what that means" *walks away*
Me: "But... what.... how...." O.o
20 minutes in and i'm already thanking the gods for every puzzle he solves jesse pls
Oddly, the best part was watching Jesse's puzzle solving evolve as he did more and more puzzles.
I like how his wrong attempts at one puzzle end up being the solution to the next, but proceeds to do everything but what he tried earlier.
Who needs squats when you can just watch Jesse play a puzzle game! The butt clench is real! :D
I... I actually want to see Jesse play more of this. Despite all the clenching, this is fun to watch.
I hope your considering an actual LP of this Jesse, great video.
at 59:20 the tree puzzle was look at the broken branch that was still on the screen that there was 1 branch missing on the tree but not on the screen
Man I have never had to think that hard when watching a video before this one.
This is such a relaxing game to watch. Also, there're already speedruns of this. Current unofficial WR (the game still isn't submitted) at any% (getting to the ending doing the minimal required amount of puzzles) is like 35 minutes :D Don't let that discourage you though :)
can we get a series of this pls?
The second to last tree was mirrored compared to the display, and the last tree had a branch missing that was not represented as missing on the display.
bless you Jesse with your intros.Make me laugh everytime
Jesse: "What am I trying to do here?.... oh am I trying to get the apple?"
Me: "Looks like it."
Jesse: •tries every path but the apple's path•
"I need to learn about this puzzle."
•walks away•
Me: "Fucking hell Jesse!!"
•It's lucky we you•
:)
Mr. Cox, could we please have a full playthrough, or atleast a bit more? I am enjoying it very much.
MORE OF THIS PLEASE
Jesse actually performed far, FAR beyond my expectations on this one. Props.
interesting observation: Jesse have a trouble with adding and recognizing recently used patterns, he still uses quite sofisticated patterns, but it seems he have a need to invent them again. Here it helps him sometimes, sometimes harms, but it curious imho.
Hello Jesse. Have you ever done a rubix cube? If not it would be really funny to see you trying to solve a rubix with some kind of time limit
Wait! A fan Friday actually came out on FRIDAY? What is this sorcery?!?
Please make this a series!!
just as i was about to sleep, this came up.
damn it jesse!!
You actually did a pretty good job. Please make a follow-up video, pretty please...

"Alright we have to do some crazy mechanics"
For the love of all that's holy just go all the way up on the side!
"and this is the maneuver that you have to do"
For the love of god it's the one you attempted before!
Just go under it first!
"Oooooooh we did it"
No bad, you do not get to be proud about that!
.... i need popcorn for this
Thank You, You've sold me this game >^_^
+Jesse Cox I'm so glad they recommended you played a puzzle game. As soon as I saw the upload I grabbed some popcorn, got a soda, shoved a lump of coal up my butt and enjoyed. Now that I've finished the video, I have no popcorn or soda but I do have a nice diamond.
ah yes "Yell at your screen hour with Jesse Cox" my favorite show
Captain's log, 13:50: Holy shit, I can't take this anymore.
14:47; Oh dear lord, he's evolving. We still have a chance.
18:12; That's it.
I had to watch this for game development class. I have never felt the urge to comment on a video, but him doing the blue puzzles when they first introduced white and black was one of the most painful things that I have ever watched.
seeing jesse's brain get absolutely destroyed by the puzzles in this game made my day
So thirty minutes in and I realized something that makes these puzzles easier to visualize (for me at least) don't think about getting the dots not to touch, just focus on which side of the line you needs the dots to be on.
