As a churchill graduate in the year of our lord, 2022, i always look back on how breath taking our band program used to be and sigh. i never performed in any shows nearly to the level of some of this stuff, and i will always be disappointed that this program is essentially dying. with an unpopular director, and an even less popular student staff, in my 4 years alone we went from ~300 people to nearly 100. and i truly think this program will never reach the kind of magnificent peaks that were reached when Vollmar was with the program.
Same here. I lament at how the program declined after Vollmar. Lee, Pollard, Ruiz (he was pretty good), etc. I was in the 2014 Colosseum show my senior year and we got 14th I think at BOA Grand Nats. Last "successful" year but was still on the decline. We had like 200-250 and couldn't compete like in the 90s and early 2000s.
Wow! Me and my sister were both in this. Dana McCown-Flute, Todd McCown -Trombone. We got 1st at Bands of America competetion in every category except for one. I learned so much that year. Our directors, Ferd Vollmar, and Jon Goforth really did a great job with us. Damn we were good!
I was in the Bowie band at this regional. We never made finals in those days but I do have fond memories of this regional. I remember it being slightly chilly and windy and I remember running down the grassy slope near the stadium that's directly to the back-left of this camera angle.
Churchill was the class of the San Antonio area and at times the best band in Texas in the late 90's. This show and 1996's are shows etched in my memory. Great show! I wonder if anyone has 1998, 1999, or 2000 available? Many didn't like it, but I personally loved 1999's The Power and the Beauty (Respighi and Puccini).
Lol, I remember the announcer breaking in before the show was over. To be fair, the show probably could have ended there. I'm not sure I really appreciated and recognized how musically difficult this show was for a high school. Well done, Churchill.
Just watched it holy crap I forgot the commentator f'ed up and started in on his "The Winston Churchill marching BAND!! during the break between the 4th and 5th movement. Talk about unplanned genius.
Wow, differently remember practicing next to your sister, Kate and the rest of our gang! I am glad to see this posted brings such great memories. Does anyone have the BOA Nationals posted?

20 years later and I'm still fucking proud of this performance.
I would be too
my favorite show to march. Sadly the memories fade of the experience, but my pride of the show is strong as ever.
Been a while since I've heard these songs. Remember each note like it was yesterday.

To be fair, it DID end when it was a UIL performance. But since BOA wasn't restricted to 8 minutes, we added the final movement.
