I can’t believe 6a wasn’t a thing that time
Very nice band sound in the Barber 1st Symphony.
I remember watching this during finals at the Houston regional. At 1:18, one of the bass clarinets backwards marching had their foot stepped on, which caused them to fall backwards. This led to a small pileup as the people marching backwards in the follow-the-leader had no idea what was behind them.
As a churchill graduate in the year of our lord, 2022, i always look back on how breath taking our band program used to be and sigh. i never performed in any shows nearly to the level of some of this stuff, and i will always be disappointed that this program is essentially dying. with an unpopular director, and an even less popular student staff, in my 4 years alone we went from ~300 people to nearly 100. and i truly think this program will never reach the kind of magnificent peaks that were reached when Vollmar was with the program.
Cream
Same here. I lament at how the program declined after Vollmar. Lee, Pollard, Ruiz (he was pretty good), etc. I was in the 2014 Colosseum show my senior year and we got 14th I think at BOA Grand Nats. Last "successful" year but was still on the decline. We had like 200-250 and couldn't compete like in the 90s and early 2000s.
For Ef's sake, I remember being an eight year old watching my sister march this show at Rice. Here we are in 2021.. we both ended up marching one year at church and marching iconic shows at Reagan. However, this show.... this is the one. It's a masterpiece
LEVEL 5 come was our decibal 11
Turn 2, 3, 4 halt up breathe play!
I'll never forget you, Graham. I was a freshman when I met you. You instantly became my big brother and my best friend. I left to join Reagan. When I found out what happened it tore my heart apart. I will always remember your kindness. You we're that absolute definition of a gentlemen. I will never forget you, brother.
What happened???
RIP Graham Harris, WC Band Alum 2006.
Lol, I remember the announcer breaking in before the show was over. To be fair, the show probably could have ended there. I'm not sure I really appreciated and recognized how musically difficult this show was for a high school. Well done, Churchill.
To be fair, it DID end when it was a UIL performance. But since BOA wasn't restricted to 8 minutes, we added the final movement.
I just think this is amazing from a HS band. Seriously.
Wow I wasn’t in band but some friends were. I’m talking about late 90s with Ferd Vollmar
My school ! Honestly guys ... the 90 ‘s ... were the last “ Golden Age “. It seemed like humidity was finally progressing , people got along more at any time in history , the economy was in a surplus ... pre 9/11 and though we had technology the kiddies have today ( not as advanced but we had it ) one thing that we didn’t have was SOCIAL MEDIA. That is what did this generation in ! Social media makes everyone paranoid , self conscious , and doesn’t allow society to live in the moment ! Wehad it better than kids today and honestly the truth ! Go Chargers !!!
These comments: 20% - Actual comments about Marching Band 70% - I recognize none of these songs 10% - I knew one song
man. proud to be a charger, huh?

Wow all of the comments on this video predate the existence of "Reply" comments
it really is fascinating to see these types of comments on old videos
I'm surprised yet glad this got past the drawing boars. I just wonder, what the process was of creating this masterpiece?
Where was this?
Alamodome in San Antonio tx
Paris Waltz😍😍
20 years later and I'm still fucking proud of this performance.
I would be too
True story. This was not the original ending. The WC directors got the first copy and rejected it as "too boring". So the composer went back and gave them this ending instead. It looked so complex on paper that one director said "well I guess we pissed him off".
Dontreadthis2011 how do you know this!?
remember that douche of a student teacher we had that year? he told me.
Dontreadthis2011 what?? I don't go to Churchill or ever went to it😂😐
my bad. i didn't know.
@@Dontreadthis2011 my God best Churchill band story ever I go there now and yeah
mad props for incorporating other parts of the music other than its overture. "Candide" has a lot of phenomenal music throughout its score.
I'll get one of them, eventually.
Absolutely amazing show!
I'm doing this show with my band.... I'm not sure how I feel about
So wheres the 1999 2000 shows. Anyone have them to post
i dont recognize any of these songs
i didnt recognize any anime themese, like i was hoping for at least one naruto but then i saw it said 2002 and naruto was out that year so maybe it was too new lol but still i didnt hear any old anime themes that i could recognize ;p
Churchill was the class of the San Antonio area and at times the best band in Texas in the late 90's. This show and 1996's are shows etched in my memory. Great show! I wonder if anyone has 1998, 1999, or 2000 available? Many didn't like it, but I personally loved 1999's The Power and the Beauty (Respighi and Puccini).
WOW! A blast from the past! I remember practicing this on the parking lot and those gears would always be in the way! Robert Handy was that you with the solo?
+Denise Kessell I believe it was Chris Cole.
Wow, differently remember practicing next to your sister, Kate and the rest of our gang! I am glad to see this posted brings such great memories. Does anyone have the BOA Nationals posted?
Been a while since I've heard these songs. Remember each note like it was yesterday.
Sounded like maybe Megaman 3 Theme was in there
The last piece they played
6:17 Bleach! It's Bleach! I know that one
Bleach released in 2004. This show was 2002
Staff/directional changes will do that to a band. Over the past several years their staff has been entirely replaced from the good old days of the 90's and '00s. I believe Churchill has the potential to become "noticeable" again, though it'll take a few years and some kick-ass directors.
Funny 10 years later we're still having directors being replaced left and right are we still noticeable I don't know lol
@@brandonmireles3249 Not the same. Churchill was THE band back then.
@@EMANUGARC Yes I know already
Magnifique
what animes where used?
Yes, they have a new director and he's awful. Not NEARLY as good as Mr. Lo. -Churchill alumna
dude fuck you I love papa tony
Yea I give papa tony 110%
Then you must ask yourself.....why did he leave?
can't believe i was in this show, love how you can hear sloan's signature shout at the beginning of the performance :D
countlost60 your band is awesome :)
Mr. Lo's badass.
Mr. Lo was an Amazing teacher, even though i only knew him for 2 years while he was teaching here in houston, i wouldent be where i am today without him. I hear he's the band director at North Texas University. Really do miss him
It sounds like a demo recording
XD My sophomore year. I loved this show~
this was definitely my favorite show while i was at churchill, they did such an amazing job!
I have the Churchill shows from 1999 and 2000 that I am going to post on here since there is no sign of them!
I was a freshmen on the drumline that year was a badass show to start my drumming career !!!
it was originally supposed to be taken out for the schools "no place for hate campaign" that happened to be going on at the same time Churchill was producing the show..
Hey I'm trying to create a presentation about the legacy of the Churchill band in hopes of preserving our amazing history and hyping the coming year. If anybody would like to contribute stories or information to this project, it would be greatly appreciated, just message me on here!
