I had the pleasure of working on one of those a couple weeks ago for the first time. It would start just fine but it was surging. When the blades were engaged it seemed to run fine and you couldn't hear any surging. Nevertheless the customer wanted me to stop it from surging. I cleaned the heck out of the carb but still surged after about a minute of running. I ended up replacing the carb which fixed the problem. Thanks for your uploads big guy!!
@@PNWSmallEngineandLawn thanks Mike, I never really think to try something like that. But I can see now it's at least worth trying especially since I usually end up putting a new carb in anyway.

I have also drilled out the main jet to the next size up. Seemed to work as well
