  • So over this next year or so, while not touring, I have a few companies that are supporting me and helping me create new tools, or providing me with helpful things for my work. I'll periodically put up some content that shows some of those tools that Ive found inspiration in. Here's one: The U3 Transmitter that you can 'hack' to send wireless audio from your modeller to your powered cabs. I'll try not to flood your feed with things other than stuff I think is groovy. =) XVive makes some very cool, forward thinking stuff and I appreciate them supporting The Moth. Check it out if youre so inclined: xvive.com

    The gear's jobs are to inspire you, and get out of the way. The rest is up to you. Looks like this is exactly what this does. Go Dev go!

    We used them for DJ gigs for getting all 4 corners of the room covered for speeches and they worked great. Very minimal latency and decent range.

    I've been using a Xvive U4 for my Inner Ears. It's been killer! Small form factor, pairs quickly and easily, great battery life. Simply love it!

    I’ve been running wireless guitar for decades but recently I started using an airstep paired with a widi master to control the preset/scene changes on my quad cortex. It has on a rechargeable battery so the only chords you see are speaker cables coming out of my rack. It’s amazing.

    I'm loving the idea of cable-free floors and an untethered guitar when I'm jamming, instead of having to fight the kraken and cthulhu tag team every time I need to lay out everything.
    careful not to step over the cables, make room for the cables, have a visual clutter all over the floor, then you get noise from the wires and you cant have too long cables and omg... I got creatively exhausted just by thinking about this shit.
    I love tidiness and a clean creative space but I understand that this is also personal taste to a degree.

    The relationship between musical expression and gear is a strained one for me. On one hand, I love the observable difference in aesthetics and quality of sound that different gear provides and the feeling that I really "get" what I'm doing when I understand my gear. On the other, I feel like I can get bogged down by just how deep the rabbit hole goes for every aspect of making music. People can spend their entire lives around a single aspect of music production and still never truly unlock everything there is to experience. How can you NOT get lost in the weeds when there's guitars, amps, DAWs, pedals, all with their own universes to explore? I find that I'll be messing with my gear for so long only to notice I haven't had the bandwidth to pick up my guitar in a week.

      reason why i've completely stepped away from analog gear
      i don't even have an amp for my guitar
      or a pedal
      everything through an audio interface and ye olde bias FX 2

      "lost in the weeds" is a great description of what happened to me on my musical journey, original just guitar and 4 track, then simple midi sequencer for drum and bass tracks through to the expansion of endless possibilities of VST and VSTi, it was there where I lost myself, I was in awe of what the new technologies could do that I myself stopped doing anything productive.

    • @PanosOsbourne
      @PanosOsbourne 6 месяцев назад

      dont be afraid to explore everything you're curious for, no one needs to be an expert on everything. the rabbit hole can go as deep as you want it to. everything in moderation and a happy new year!

    I use the Xvive U4 for my wireless in-ears for every gig. The latency is like what you'd experience if you were about 6 feet away from your cab anyway. So, completely natural sounding to have a tiny bit of latency people!

    For that application, they're great. I wouldn't rely on them for live use though; I've had many a muso come through my stages using them and they are very hit and miss. As soon as rooms fill up with hundreds of people and their Wifi phones, reliability plummets. Just like anything that uses that frequency range I guess.

    Even the guitar's internal wiring can 'go wireless', and have all the switching etc done 'away' from the guitar proper.
    These days, there's no reason why pickups HAVE to be wired to 'normal' internal wiring.

    • @utherpendragon6955
      @utherpendragon6955 6 месяцев назад +1

      ... Because pickups *are*' wires. Beyond that you have a few reasons: clarity; latency; and if you're digitizing anywhere then you must double your sampling rate or you lose half the quality (see nyquist frequency law)
