BMW's lairiest boxer? 2023 BMW R1250R review

  • The boffins in Berlin have given the R1250R a facelift for 2023, replacing its headlight with a slinky one that's very similar to the S1000R's. It's also inherited some standard-fit tech upgrades, an Eco riding mode and more. Join me in Spain as I take it for a ride in the mountains to find out if this is a real-world naked that promises fun as well as practicality.

      Indeed. I get pissed at how manufacturers just ignore pillion comfort in bikes other than big tourers or adv bikes. Why can't they build proper pillion seats in nakeds and sportbikes like the old days?

    Amazing bike ❤ … forgotten indeed and absolutely underestimated ! The whole setting, comfort & torque, even the older 1200R with a bit more character. Doesn’t matter if cruising, travelling or sporty riding, the bike handles it always (regret all 3 times, I sold it), thx 🙏🏻

    My wife rides this bike. She is 1.62 meters "tall". What many don't even know: The 1250 R is the only naked bike from BMW with a standard seat height of 760 mm (with the low seat). So if you want more power, cardan and boxer as a small person, you can't really get around this bike. I also drive it regularly and I must admit that it makes me much more fun than my fat GS. Ride Safe!

This bike jumped out of nowhere. Never even considered before. Will the weight be a hangup for me? can't yet get a test ride. Any thoughts?

    • @pbofan
      @pbofan Год назад +2

      I have this bike, and the weight isn’t bad at all. It’s only 525 lbs., and it wears that weight low due to the boxer engine configuration, so handling is sharp and nimble.

    Good review. Love the boxer in the GS(A) and RT. Unsure of the purpose of the R other than BMW can offer it at little cost to develop. I would choose the Super Duke, Streetfighter, MT09/10, 1000R, all before the R.

    • @matt2wheels

      I think the R is for the few people who would like a jack of all trades bike that can do long distance touring with luggage as well as cruising around town on an afternoon and all this in a premium package. Super Duke GT comes close to this but it's a lot more aggressive.

    Free holiday, great bike. What a surprise, what happened to journalism?

    • @timrodierides
      @timrodierides  Год назад +2

      Did you miss the bits where I said the quickshifter was bad, I'm not sure where it sits in the real world and that it doesn't make enough noise? Trust me, I'm here to criticise bikes fairly - watch my other videos. I'd have said the same thing if it was my own bike (which I've also reviewed on here and criticised). Think before you comment, eh?

    • @glideman
      @glideman Год назад

      I did think before making the comment. The point is that if you said the bike was crap you would never be invited back, this does compromise journalism.
      It’s a bit patronising to say you’re viewers don’t think just because they say something you don’t like.
      The point I was making is that motorcycle testers go on a free holiday & the bike is the best thing since sliced bread, people buy it then you watch a review of the same bike a few months later and it’s now got a few faults. Then the new one comes out and the one you have is shit.
      It’s like taking money from manufacturers for a good review. You’re not the only one doing it of course but it’s not the best environment for unbiased reviews.

    • @timrodierides
      @timrodierides  Год назад

      @@glideman the point about never being invited back is bollocks though. I’ve been reviewing cars and bikes for 10 years and I’ve never been afraid of criticising, yet I’m usually invited back. The PR teams know what is good and bad about their cars and they’d usually prefer critical insight than OMG YAY THIS CAR PERFECT. If people didn’t get invited back after criticising things there’d be no journalism industry.

    • @glideman
      @glideman Год назад

      So you’re suggesting that manufacturers spend millions every year on hotels, meals, flights etc without any payback? I’m sure if they got nothing back they wouldn’t be spending.
      If you’re assumption was right they would have launched the bike in Blackpool instead.

    • @timrodierides
      @timrodierides  Год назад

      @@glideman They launch them in places where they can a) get good photos and videos so the bikes look good, b) where the roads and weather are of a standard where you can push on a bit and c) where journalists from international markets can easily get to.
