That segment where you would pull up behind a rider to say a little bit about them, give a nice shout out and then pass to carry onto the next person and do the same… That was brilliant, entertaining and quite gracious. Chopsy Sir, you’re a good egg.

I have a 2020 R1250R. They're definitely overlooked. Most people who ask what it is have never heard of it or seen one. Most versatile bike Ive ever owned. You can buy a decent windscreen for them and even tour on it.

For what it is and for who it is targeted at, it’s a surprisingly capable bike. Plenty of power, sporty, fast, wheelies like a dream, does good in touring and commuting. There’s something deep inside it that just screams for aggressive riding, but then again, that might just be my dirt riding ass going on the street. Awesome vid!

Thanks for posting. I have a 2004 R1150R (original owner). Looks have not changed much. The thing is a tank. Ridden it all over the western US. Never a hint of a problem. I have owned several bikes over the years, but the 1150R has been the constant in my stable. Great bike.

Loved watching that review, thanks 007. It’s taken me three years to smooth out the changes on that gearbox, especially from first to second. 143 Nm and quick steering make it a very versatile bike for an old bloke. Tour, scratch or cruise, as I could only afford one bike it was the right choice for me.

The 1250 is a great bike and a fantastic option for those of shorter stature who want a fully featured, incredibly capable bike. My wife fits into this category and she adores her 1250R (fitted with optional low seat) and has enjoyed every one of the 55,000 kms on it so far. There is simply no other large capacity bike with the handling, performance, touring capability and low seat height. None.

I can't even recognise my own mates when were out half the time. I am one of the converted and have a 20MY R1250R. When ever I tell people what I've got I usually get a bit of a blank look and a pretend nob of acknowledgment while they are secretly thinking 'I have no idea what he's on about'. It really is a bit of an underrated and unnoticed bike. Its everything you said with the added capability of hauling proper fit for purpose good touring luggage. Brill for touring, off to Spain and France in 6 weeks. Yippee!

I own a 2019 R1250R in Black Storm Metallic. It’s a connoisseurs bike. Stealthy. Smooth. Understated. But with a huge wallop of grunt to blast away from most other road users when required. Love it.
Sold my R1200GS for it as I wanted some lower with the same boxer engine. Bought a little bike for off road thrills.
The R1250R and RS models are the bikes that a lot of GS owners should buy instead.

    Hi Lambchop,
Love the fact that you have finally got onto an R1250R, cannot believe you have not been on one before!
I owned the R1200 and then got the R1250R back in 2020 and I absolutely love this bike for everything I think this is a great bike that does it all, Touring, Commute and Sunday blasts, maybe not a track day machine which is maybe where so many people overlook this bike as its not super sport quick.
The quick shifter does get better as the bike takes on miles, but for me no one makes a better quick shifter than KTM, like silky smooth butter on the Super duke Evo and 1290 Super Adventure!
Also, I would be interested to know your thoughts on the cruise control as I think its the simplest, easiest of all the major brand bikes and it will set at almost any speed.
I have just been out on the new 2023 version last week and have done my own First Ride Review (link below), there is not much difference between the 2019 model and the 2023 incarnation.

Great bike I’ve owned both 1200r and 1250r - you can get sports bars from your bmw dealership slightly flatter and wider for both bikes. My only disappointment on the 1250 was the gear box from 1st to 2nd especially when the 1200 was silky smooth. Both models in dynamic engine mode are great fun. I’ve moved onto a s1000r and loving it but do mix the torque of the boxer engine

Nice vid Chops & an interesting bike that does undoubtedly get overlooked including by me tbh. Although I do wonder where it really fits in & BMW's marketing of it, or lack thereof. I'm not sure who or when you might buy one, as in what are you after or instead of what? Ironically I think the introduction of the Moto Guzzi V100 will lead to more publicity for this & more so the RS as a natural competitor. Will be interested to see your take on that too.

    • @geneclarke2205
      @geneclarke2205 Год назад +1

I beleive you're saying what the invited reviewers can't. I have a 2013, last air cooled, last dual old school clocks, last of the retro looks, and BMW has turned it into a German Yamaha MT09 or Triumph Street Triple RS or KTM's 890 Duke/R and now its a look alike bike that gets lost within the competition. If it had kept to its more classic styling it could compete with the Yamaha XSR900 and Kawasaki Z900RS as conventional neo-retro / classy-looking machines. But you summed it up "BMW's marketing or lack thereof".

    • @ragerider6283
      @ragerider6283 Год назад

@@geneclarke2205 That's a really interesting point you make about retaining it's original styling (or not) as currently it's in between, neither one thing or the other & somewhat of an odd fusion of old & new The R9T is more of a stylised neo-retro where as this could have just been more "traditional" in it's styling & they wouldn't have stepped on each other's toes in the range. It's still a nice bike but a bit of a peculiarity I guess. Although t's something a bit different for those that are so inclined along with the Moto Guzzi as mentioned.

I’m in the market for a new commuter and these interest me as something that can just eat the miles and as a Guzzi rider also the shaft drive really is less faff as a daily. However the biggest issue as ever with BMW is the price, they lure you in with that low starting price but by the time you put a few bits on your up at 16k plus which makes it damn expensive against something like the Suzuki GSXS.

Get into some twisties (lots in Wales, where I live),
Both throttle and suspension in 'Dynamic,
3rd and 4th gear, open and shut throttle..........awesome fun!!
Punchy out of the corners, loads of engine braking, quickshifter up and down if needed.
It's also comfy on longer trips, I do around 200 to 350 miles in a day, no issues.
Even got cruise control, that's simple and easy to use!
Solo and with pillion, electronic suspension, making it super easy to change settings.
I've even ridden, Cardiff to Land's End, and back, in a day! nearly 500 miles.
The bike performed beautifully, in all weathers, and returns 50+ mpg average.
Personally, I think, a great 'all round' bike, sporty enough for fun on the roads,
comfy enough for touring and really good at carrying pillions too.
I'd say, a much ignored, very underated bike. The 1250 must be better again!!
Really enjoying ALL your videos Chops, looking forward to the next one.
    Grumps.

Interested on your thoughts on the quick shifter. I’m on my fifth BMW and the quick shifter has got much better over recent years. My last RT 1200 and my K1600 were smooth as silk. I’m now on a new RT1250 and yes it’s not as smooth, but it’s brand new and I’ve only done 160 miles so think it’s possibly a requirement to run them in for a while. Time will tell but I wondered if your experience of the quick shifter was based on very new machines rather than some well run in examples. Great video by the way, made me feel all summery

My older R1200RS took about 3k to bed in, my 21' R1250RS took a bit longer at about 5k... but it did have a year of autobahn thrashing and not much twisty work!

I like the idea of the BMW boxer engine and shaft drive, and this bike looks really versatile with plenty of compatible luggage and accessories. For me the only problem is that new BMW bikes, in my area at least, are SO marked up it's ridiculous. I only have 1 BMW/Ducati/Triumph dealer within 200 miles of my apartment and they leverage that exclusivity.

good review. I am a 1250R owner since they arrived in 2019. The R is the most evolved of all the boxers and its history can be traced back to the start of BMW. In europe they are much more popular than in the UK, many riders fit a touring screen to add touring potential which i have done and can confirm it can do anything a tourer or adventure bike can do (bar off road obviously). The R's reputation for reliability is arguably better than the other boxers. All of the comparisons between the R and RS come out in favour of the R due to it being more comfortable and more agile (slightly different geometry possibly?). Due to the relative unpopularity of the R used bikes can be picked up at relatively good prices. All in the R is superb but keep it quiet as R owners like to keep it secret.

Amazin bike, I'm 50's years old and wanted something like a Harley to enjoy the road in a comfortable position but with the best technology and security in the market, olso with some sport capabilities to enjoy twisty roads...R 1250 r was all Of this and more...
In January 2021 I got the 2020 demo... with all the packages...
All of my friends own GS, one RT... Made a 3 days trip trough different states in Mexico, went from the valleys in the center of the Country to the mountains, and went down to the pacific ocean...
The main objective: 100 km of the old twisty road in the mountains called "La rumorosa", something like the 11 miles of the Dragon Tail in the US but with big Letters... Known to be one of the 3 more dangerous roads in Mexico with more fatalities....
At the end of the trip we voted for the best bike in general: R 1250 r....

For me the R1250R is the best pick of the R1250 boxer range as long as You wanna keep the wheel on the road. Now I would love to see a R1250S with 20kg less and 10-15bhp more :)

How would you sum up the differences between this and the S1000R on the streets. Forget track days, say you only want to ride on the streets and do a bit of travel, would this bike trump the thou? Is it better in town or in mountain passes because of the added torque low down?

BMW hmmm… owned a 2016 1200RT, traded for a 2018 1200GS, then traded to a 2022 1250R my current bike and main reason was for more airflow to the rider living down here in Florida. Awesome bike so far, put an Arrow Can on it and put the small fly screen on it. Yes Quick shifter is a mess between 1-2 and sometimes upto 3 if you are not revving the motor. I am 6’3” and 247 lbs (working on reducing that… LOL). Great bike so far
