TC is still the first thing I install on a new machine. It used to be Dos Navigator or Norton Commander back in the day, Windows Commander before it was renamed to Total Commander. I can live without it, but i feel like my hands are tied up.
When we try to rename a file.... the Ext name also appears....is there any setting that can only produce the fine name while renaming and not the extension file name
Great video. Is there a way to make the user interface look nicer (e.g. custom colors). Also, is there a way to add a bookmarks bar, similar to the one in clover and google chrome? Thank you. Also, you should do more tutorials-this one was clear, concise, and informative.
Not a bookmark, but you can make a hotlist (practically the same, probably exactly what you want) like this: 1.) Configuration/Options/Folder Tabs - Show tab header also when there is only one tab 2.) Either use the directory hotlist (CTRL+D), or create a button in the button bar or an entry in the start menu: a.) The directory hotlist allows to add/remove the currently active directory. (you can switch between them by clicking on an asterisk on the right side of the active panel. Or you can open several of them on either right or the left panel and switch between them as you need - I suppose this is what you were asking for :) ) You can open several panes in one panel by right-clicking on the active one and select "Duplicate this tab", then navigate there to the directory you need and save it again with CTRL+D b.) To add a dir to the button bar, select the directory, hold down the SHIFT key, and drag the directory to the button bar. A new icon will appear. c.) You can also create a menu item in the "Start Menu" using the command cd c:\dirname. (Total Commander requires you to specify the whole path)

is there a way to discover file names that windows doesn't like to play with, like illegal characters or super long names etc?

I've been using Xplorer2, but wanted to try out Total Commander. So far it's a little intimidating.

Great stuff. How did you configure Notepad++ to close on ESC? I thought that feature newer made its way into Notepad++...
Ah. I don't. But on most machines I have Notepad2 , which does have this feature...
