Sneaking djent into the lives of the unbelievers
Stephen Elijah djenteagle is the destroyer!!!!!!
legalize prog
popularize prog
and come up with a third slogan so it looks cool on a poster
@@TheLastCrankers Eternalize prog. (Or anything else if that doesn't sound cool)
The crowd dances so confidently...until Matt brings out the polyrhythms lol
Matt to the guys dancing, "Foolish mortals, you cannot dance in time to my beats."
So thats how it feels to be the matts v neck... FINALLY!!!
Hahahaha
V-neck Simulator: coming to Steam soon (tm).
@@Bisquickstill waiting
still come back to this video every now and again. one of those evergreen, feel-good things you don't get much more on the internet. love Matt's playing, and love how happy everyone is to enjoy it together. love the trombone player. love just the energy of being present with the art, dancing, bobbing along, and just having a good time.
That was a dank v neck cam
1:39 MAKE TOTAL DESTRÖY
ossibossi100 yep
Duuude the black chick to the left of the screen was like "Idk what this white dude playing but it bangs" xD
fattest groove ever played
THE TIME HAS COME FOR ALL TO SEEEEEEEH
Wow, an amazing musician Matt is! My friend Eric just showed me this video. I'm the bone player. Thanks for those of you sticking up for me but its alright, people always have an opinion. I used musician's etiquette by asking him if I could. I would never just start improvising over someone. As a jazz musician, knowing that's just rude. Just planned on taking a brief solo, then he told me to keep it going, so I did and had a great time! Yeah linear grooves aren't common in jazz and bop neither.
Yo sounded sickkk!!! 🙌🙌🙌
I just noticed that the drums had that great of a sound without mics. That's amazing.
My 10th time watching this and I just noticed the trombone player at 4:15 play "wah-wah'waaaahhh" when the cops came.
3ven Veronikis ahaaaa this comment changed my life
Now that’s how you know someone’s good. If the drums stand alone and can attract that many people, it’s magic
What's funniest is that they don't know what they're hearing.
If they had heard this with the other band members, they would have hated it.
Edit: I recently came back to this video because it was in my recommended five years after this original comment. I was a dumb teenager who thought my holier-than-thou metal attitude was cool and unique. It's not. What I wrote above this edit is a dumb thing to say-even though it may be true-and is gatekeepy as fuck. It keeps other people away from the genre because it tells them that they can never understand these things on the same level as us EnLiGhTeNeD mEtAl LiStEnErS. It's not good for the scene. Don't be like 16-year-old Reverie, friends.
Everyone appreciates talent until someone screams one line of a song. Then all of the sudden the whole band is terrible and it's "not real music."
Connor-Zoey Carfrae Oh yeah that is so so so true!!
They would`ve probably added something like "Boo, I don't like (rock/heavy metal)"
But that "Make total destroy" groove tho
Because musical ideas can have dramatically different meanings depending on context. The Make Total Destroy drum groove by itself is, well, groovy, fun, moreso if it's impromptu on a random street. With the whole band behind it, it becomes a rather heavy metal song, with a strong emotional idea, and that's just not to the liking of certain people who might enjoy the drum groove on its own.
the dudes bobbing in the background are hilarious. Obviously a bit drunk but funny nonetheless
Halpern needs to do this again lol I keep coming back to this video
3:35 when you can create a real party with only a drum, you are Da Drummer!!!!
To me, this is what music is about. It's not only about passion, meaning, and emotion, it's about bringing people together, people you don't even know, and just having fun. It brings people together and truly is the universal language. Gotta love music man haha and kudos to Matt man, such a talented guy.
1:30 you can hear the "Make Total Destroy" :)
Yeah totally
That's the walk no way that's make total destroy.
@@getsosavage9841 it is Make Total Destroy tho
he always plays periphery songs lol
Nick Villamizar what else would he play?
Captain Pie Fox an original drum solo
@@danielveness1943 But he wrote the drum parts so it is original.
Besides, few people actually make "original" solos on the spot.
@@ShrubPlays Most periphery songs are original Misha songs, so no. Misha wrote all the instrumentation.
@@Vneckvideos True.
i absolutely love how by the end he has a gigantic crowd having a rave, and a trombonist. and all from playing a drum solo. what an epic beast of a drummer!
Love the guys in front who thinks its a mad rap beat! xD
Axel Johansson you're so pretentious lmao.
No man, they're just feelin it. And so am I
Patrick Star facts honestly it’s interesting seeing someone’s take on it when they don’t know the source materials
In all honesty, most of the people there were drunk or something, but that's one good way of promoting your band... So long as Matt advertised who he was at the location other than just being some anonymous drummer with mad skills
These people are oblivious to what matt is actually playing lol.
haha don't be a snob, doesn't mean they can't enjoy it if they can't necessarily deconstruct the polyrhythms
ehoc42 you must be one of those people
lol lets see you write a transcription of what he's playing then. Being a Djent fan doesn't make you superior to people having a good time on the street
ehoc42 hmm let's see, did I every say I was superior in anyway? Did I once was I was a fan of djent? No. And I wasn't referring to any polyrhythms or metric modulation, rather the music from Periphery he slid in there, and I did a transcription of Make Total Destroy as a junior in high school :)
I'm pretty sure Haden was referring to the fact that it's heavy metal, rather than the fact that it's rhythmically complex.
Funny how the conglomeration of people was, at first slow, but then Matt turned it into a mad house...lol-I'm flabbergasted by Matts drumming...hats off!
I like how at 1:40 he was getting the masses into Make Total Destroy.
the guy two guys are just high on music ahaha
james senor they were just having fun
@@nicolasfrossard4315 why are americans always like this? so overly extroverted and annoying .. there is no reason to have a sick amount of self confidence
@@MetalGuitarTimo i dont get why you're answering to me for what you just said
@@MetalGuitarTimo uhhhhh europeans do the same thing, people all around the world have extroverted tendencies , there's nothing "specifically american" about any activity in this video... go to any euro concert or somebody drumming like this in europe , africa, india and you will get the same shit. also, they're at SXSW most likely drunk already so they'll be more comfortable and obnoxious anyway - but this isn't something specific to americans. lol the anti-american bullshit some people try to conjure up out of a 5 minute video is too hilarious.
Halpern for president!
Those people had a LOT of fun! Wish Matt Hellporn would play on my street :D
Lol at the trombone player at 4:20
>pwa pwa pwaaaa
+Chris Pouliot i bet that someone was like "hey man theres this drummer playing on the street, go and play the trombone, no man im a little drunk , doesnt matter go and play" *starts playing horribly the trombone*
It's 2019 and I'm still watching this repeatedly until Matt makes another one of these, I love it!
If you just listened to the audio you might not guess it's a three piece set... this guy dominates
ikr
I love the fact that most of those people don't know who he is, and probably don't listen to metal, yet everyone can appreciate a good musician
This is pure music
I want a mapex set now....
it doesn't work. I bought a DW and I still suck
Buying an expensive kit doesn't make you sound better, dude. Take some fucking drum lessons.
Braden Munafo man the clue train passed you right by on that joke.
I just got it. Hah... hah.. hahaha..
Super clever.
I hope you're proud of yourself.
he's mad he didn't get it, and now he's taking it out on everyone else.
i like how he starts playing sections from make total destroy a lot.
This is fantastic! Great musicianship, dancing, smiling and just a great time! Thanks for this video, it really made me happy! :D
Matt I think you have a bright future ahead of you as a drummer! :D
Why are people dissing the horn dude? That is what music is right there. Bringing people together, dancing, and right there is sharing the love. So many idiodic people have lost sight of what music is! Don't over think is so much. GOOD TUNES IS GOOD TUNES
these people have no idea what they're hearing xD
Most people have zero clue how good this guy is. Most versatile drummer there is.
1:40 = MAKE TOTAL DESTROY
DFElender1 Love that reference hey
He reminds me of the drummer from a band periphery
0:47 the guy in the front reminds me of a young lars ulrich lol
Yeah, I can see what you mean actually, well noticed. I tell you what, Matt Halpern's bloody brave to go and just drum like that in the seat. I wouldn't have the guts to do that even if I was playing well just because of the attention from people. And what phenomenal playing this from him.
His time is just as good, too.
1 thn i love is d matt mkes evn d most smple beats sound complx...awesum mn
THing thing that gets me is that I can replay all his patterns in my head so I'm there thinking I'm a boss.
I go to a set and try to play some masamune, Make total destroy, Totla Mad with the expectation to nail everything and my mind is following the patterns but my hands and feet are like fucking up everything no coordination wit the music at all.
That shit is nerve wracking.
How could you not love this?
1:45 - 2:05 is from Periphery - Make Total Destroy. for all you wizards out there \m/
The whole street stopped to see him play. What a party.
2016 and its still Mad Hellporn! ;-p
I remember watching this video at like 12k views many years ago. Now it's over 300k. Matt has really made a name for himself. Keep it up
3:14 get this clown outta here
He ain't got no Power Absolute, if you know what I mean.
Esc0bar0ni I feel you brother
lmfao fo real horn gotta go
Ugh, that was really bad trombone playing....
awe. consider yourself inspired :) much love to matt halpern, i been playing drums for 11 years and im just discovering his talent. thank you to matt and periphery for your inspiration
As soon as people start to have fun and enjoy music in a street where no one was complaining, cops showed up. Nice society we live in ! Can't wait to be more restricted in the future !
The power of drums. They give music a rhythm and beat that makes people dance.
1:50 MAKE TOTAL DESTROY !!!!!!!
1:40 actually! Because I was about to post that same thing!
That looks like so much fucking fun. I want to stumble upon Halpern drumming in the street. Like holy shit.
1:40 Make Total Destroy ;)
Matt Halpern is an absolute lad.
that true that true
Is mark zuckerberg right there?? at 4:17 min ??
I love the two people in front trying to find the beat while it keeps changing.
lol v-neck clip-on camera XD XD XD
The dancer at 2:55
The trombone guy at 3:14
The mass of people moving together at 3:36
It's so weird, all those elements are from an american comedy, It's just hilarious. Amazing video btw, love this initiative, seeing all these people reacting like this give me joy.
Matt ft trombone
I've watched this video over 100 times by now... So. Damn. Groovy.
I hate the page but imagine if Cop Block had a post about that damn cop ruining the fun?
Also, this was a one of a kind event, I wish I got to see it, or better yet got a drumstick in the end.
Just saw Matt kill it on his clinic tour at Dales Drum Shop In Harrisburg, PA. Great Time and very educational!
Did i just hear the walk?
Superb....superb....superb....superb....a real time drummer who takes the drums ON THE STREET
and that's how he got laid. You rule Matt !
This is actually the coolest video on youtube
Everyone seems too drunk or high to really appreciate what's going on.
You're comment is really old, but don't be so pretentious.
@@Will057 ahaahahhaha
That's Austin for ya. I went on the last saturaday of sx and there was a huge improv band jamming in the street with a mob around. Twas' nuts...
come back to Austin matt , you belong here lol
AtlasZero13 Texas loves periphery, no kidding
I love how quickly the crowd forms!
Was all good till the trombone thought he could keep up.
+The Squid and the cops thought they could work
the force is strong with this one
And everyone in that crowd basically says, " Who is Periphery?" Also, SXSW is just another expensive excuse for a bunch of hipsters to get drunk and trash Austin.
That dude with the yellow shirt at 3:35... priceless haha
Ha, not impressed? You have absolutely no clue about music at all if you think this dude isn't talented, listen to his drumming with Periphery, and try to dissect his patterns and play them hit for hit...maybe that will change your mind
Yep, I agree. I HATE it when I show some friends of mine who hate metal some complicated material by someone like Matt Halpern and they say "I can play this, they aren't that good compared to (insert preferential composer)" and then they totally come up with some BS excuse when it comes around to learning or looking at the music as to why they can't learn it. Yes, you might be able to play a couple of notes here and there but can you actually PLAY it? There is a difference.
the best drummer/man on the planet
this is my favorite video on youtube
And none of these will ever know who he is, who his band is, or how truly amazing he is at drums. They can't comprehend him.
HAHA those two guys standing infront of the set trying to dance hahah!!! best shit ever!!! :D
i just cannot get enough of this
I always knew Matt was a beast, but GOD FUCKING DAMMIT this is nuts!!
Matt is the king!
That is all he needed is create that awesome huge sound. DAMN, this video never gets boring. :D
this is soo good. i had to stop this half way through just to catch my breathe.....
this was awesome, plain and simple
I like how he snuck in the Make Total Destroy 2123 riff
God, this is insanely fucking amazing.
loving that firstperson cam!
Love that a crowd gathered within a minute, AWESOME!!!!
Awesome saw him yesterday
That is absolutely incredible! Shows that drums are a whole band within themselves =D
So awesome
ugh i love his tom sound
You're the best! !!!! Every drummer should to play on the street!!! Love that shit!!!!
This guy is fucking amazing, and his drum kit sounds bruttally perfect
UPLOAD UNCUT VER plz! I want to hear more of matts soloing madness!! Its just amazing, the creativity!
