I adore this series kat!! Please keep this going into next year!! I love seeing how you you pair colors together, what looks you come up with, and how you can vary a look even when using the same colors.
I'm thrilled that you used a discontinued palette for your look. So many beauty bloggers toss discontinued products as they're no longer available without realizing so many people still own that discontinued product.
Halfbaked was my jam in 2010. This pallet was my first grownup makeup purchase and I hit pan on several shades, but it is very much a product of its time.
I really love how you break down each shade; it's much easier to really think about how many colors I would probably use in a palette and how many I wouldn't. 😊
Kat - you got so many diverse looks out of a rather plain palette. You've inspired me to get it back out. This palette started my love of eyeshadow palettes, and UD.
I love this series and I hope you keep this into the next year. I enjoy your in-depth discussion of each shade and how it works and where you used it. I also enjoy your pictures to illustrate your points. So, what do you do with them afterward? Do you still keep them and use them?
I do keep the palettes, they are all palette that I like and have in my collection. Some palettes I haven't reached for since doing the video and others I reach for pretty often when I am not using my current months palette. It just depends on the palette. The ones I haven't reached for don't indicate that they are bad, it just means that I am not into the shades right now. :)
Honestly, as a uni student it is one of my favourite palettes to just throw on one shade whilst still looking put together. They’re easy to use and the colours are almost all wearable. If urban decay ever discontinue the Naked Basics palette I’ll be really sad because naked2 is my favourite transition/crease shade.
GlamGirl777 GlamGirl777 I like my naked 2 palette but I only use about half the shades, the copper and gold one seem like an odd choice in a fairly cool toned palette and don’t really work with the matte shades. I actually meant the shade called “naked 2” that’s in the first naked basics palette.
Thank you for doing these kind of videos. It helps me to love old pallette. I love how you do this compared to first impressions. You are very creative in mixing colors.
Yey!!! I can get enough of this series and hang for it like a junky each month! It would be nice to your recap on this project and pallets overall at the end of the year. Are you still enjoying the project or are you getting over it due to the limitations?
I love that you do this. I bought this palette a month ago and I agree it’s different but I don’t have anything like it so I like seeing what I come up with. As of right now I use it on my casual days so it’s okay if it’s not a perfect look, but I’m learning how to make it work for me.
Love this series Kat, it has inspired me to try to stick to one palette for a few weeks at a time and really get creative with my eyelooks. It also makes decision making so much easier in the morning rush lol. x) And your braids are too cute!
I bought the Naked palette in the most recent Naked quad-pack that also has Naked 2, Naked 3, & Naked Heat. I'm really glad that you show cased the Original because I now have some ideas of how to work the shadows to my liking and coloring. I'm also wearing the L'Oreal burgundy mascara today and I'm loving it this fall for softer looks. As others have said, it would be awesome if you continued this series next year. If you didn't want to do it every month, you could always to every other month or every third month.
I love this series. It must be hard to do but I love it. I hadn’t thought to bring some of those soft shimmer shades up into the crease.... this may happen 🤔
This is my first video of yours that I've watched. Love the way you reviewed this palette and that you address the makeup trends at the time that it was released. I'm going to go check out more of your videos now
I remember when this palette found it's way onto my 6th grade daughter's Xmas list. My hubby and I went to the mall to shop and I almost shit myself when I saw the price. Ha, how times have changed. She's in collage now and I think she still may reach for it once in a while. :)
I chose this for my October 1 month 1 palette and I'm am really struggling to find a cohesive look so this was perfect timing! Can't wait to replicate some of your looks! ❤️
Thank you for this review! I never had this palette, but recently purchased it when it went on sale. It's a solid palette that is great for work. I also LOVE that burgundy mascara and use it all the time!
I'm really enjoying this series but particularly liked this video because it gave me some ideas for how to use my naked palette. It's only of 3 palettes that I have (but the other two are much smaller, pocket-sized palettes). I definitely agree about smog and dark horse, and find that they just end up patchy on me and dirty-looking.
Yay👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 So glad to see your video. Recently bought NKD on sale and need your suggestions on how to get the most out of it. I’ll be sure to pair it with Ultimate Basics for additional mattes. If they modernize it, I hope they switch to matte formula that’s in Born to Run..
I LOVE this!!! So much so, that this morning when doing my makeup, I used only Toasted, and it was beautiful! Haven't done something so simple in a long time! Keep 'em coming!
Love your look here. I have been using the burgundy Clinique Chubby Lash in Black Honey. I am redhead and don't like black mascara so it's a wonderful alternative to brown!!
Yessss! Loved the looks and I may need to pull out my Naked palette this weekend. I've been using OMOP challenges to limit my palette purchases and get a more detailed review out of it. You really know a lot more about a palette after focusing on it for a month. Good luck with Sigma!
Just got the Naked palette for the first time, and this really helped with what to expect. I really love this series and your channel. Keep up the good work! :)
Oh lord, thank you, I swear I couldn't figure out why I just never reach for The Naked palette and its because I dont like having to incorporate other palettes for mattes. It was my first big purchase item back in 2013 but I never grew into it.
I really loved this series! I'd love to see you continue it next year but I don't think you should - you should enjoy what you have instead of boxing yourself in (unless you want to, of course!) Thank you Kat.
I think it would be interesting to see a before and after comparison picture of your palette! I was very curious to see how your palette would look like after a month of frequent use!
I've been checking your channel for the last week and a half jonesing for this month's review lol! Very inspirational series and I planned to do the challenge along with you but I'm so lazy and intimidated. Definitely keen to see the desert dusk one but the sigma one is very pretty, will be counting down to November for the next review
I loved this palette and do still use it. In like Year 9 (uk) my signature look was naked on the lid, buck in the crease and dark horse in the outer corner with a khaki liner smudged on the lash lines and I thought I was the bomb haha
Great video! I remember when the naked palette first launched, you are so right about how makeup was so different back then. I never bought this but I have the born to run now, I think smog is the same in both? Either way it’s my favorite shade in the btr palette. Can’t wait to see next month!
I found myself nodding along with most of what you said. I also don’t like the dark shades in the palette and you put into words perfectly why. They are dirty shades that don’t seem to offer color. I do love sin, but I am very pale and neutral skin toned. I also agree with shimmers in the crease. I think the subtle shimmers look gorgeous blended it out like toasted which is also my favorite:)
The throwback is real. I don't use this palette very much anymore because it is just a bit dated and my style has become a bit more unique too but I used to love this palette so much. It was the first high end palette I ever bought and it got me so excited about makeup. I remember my staple going out at night look as a teenager was smog all over the lid (I'm fair and blond so smog is already quite dark evening out on me) and then I had dark horse in my outer corner and along my upper lashline with naked in the crease and sometimes I did a bit of buck in the end bit of my crease too and half baked as a highlight in the middle of my lid. Inner corner and browbone were mac blank type. That look has done quite a few Christmasses and New Years. They should still sell this palette but as a collectors item.
I have just the same thought on this pallete. I like it for everyday use, and I use same shades as you are. The only thing is that gunmetal crease on me for some odd reason. But still like the palette
I'm using this palette for this month and virgin, sin and buck are my fave. Actually i already hit pan on virgin and i'm almost done with sin. I am fair and i like a champagne eyelighter on my cheeks, and i like how it goes togheter
Love these videos! Potentially stupid question, but regarding Sigma's "Warm Neutrals" palette...aren't neutrals supposed to be neither warm nor cool? Or am I misunderstanding what "neutrals" are?
I actually just bought this palette so perfect timing. It's my first naked palette as well! Not super excited about the shades but I couldn't pass up the price to try a naked palette.
I absolutely love this series and this month palette as it is my project pan for 2018. My goal is to get as much use and to hit pan on as many shades as possible. So far I have hit pan on 3 shades, toasted, naked and sin. My favorite color is toasted. I used naked everyday to set my eyes and buck to contour my eyes and nose. I used both virgin and sin as highlighter. I absolutely hated hustle (too muddy), creep (crappiest black ever) and gunmetal (don't know how to incorporate with other colors). However, I absolutely love the look that you did combining gunmetal with half baked. I am going to try it to see if I like the look.
Good luck panning Hustle, Creep and Gunmetal! That will be so difficult, but do try pairing them with the other shades because it makes it so much more wearable. Well done on your pan that palette, you are doing really well!
I have a medium-dark complexion and sin and sidecar are my ride or dies, as highlighters my goshhhh~ This was the first eye shadow palette I ever bought, and while I agree it is dated and has some questionable shades (shimmery blacks, why why why), it's sweetly nostalgic and will always have a place in my collection :3
Oh my gosh, Kat! I have been wearing rose-y eyeshadows all over the lid with that voluminous burgundy mascara! I agree, the burgundy isn't as harsh a contrast on super fair skin and I also feel like it looks good with brown eyes :) Thank youuu for this video, made me want to pull my Naked 1 out!
Love this review! Naked 1 was strange, it was like the last hoo-ha of its 'era', like naked 2 had the matte highlight and black instead and it was just a year later i believe. Naked 1 was my first high end makeup palette and i barely used it for years because the right side of the palette was so dark on me. Definitely not beginner friendly 😂 when i was trying to use it up last year and toss it, i ended up using virgin, sin, naked, sidecar, halfbaked and toasted, basically the left side of the palette 😂 gunmetal was my least favourite shade and it was a lot of panner's nightmare
Oh gunmetal would be horrible to pan! Yeah I think the naked 2 was released 2 years after the naked 1. It either shows that a lot has changed in 2 years or that they were taking feedback when creating the second palette :)
Whilst this particular video isn't for me as I have no interest in this palette, I love this series along with project pan and hope you keep it up in 2019.
Did you go ham with color on the days you didnt use it during the month? (If you address this later i am sorry...commenting before i finish the video in case i forget)
No haha, I am not a super colourful eyeshadow wearer. Later in the month I did test out the Pat McGrath Palette on days when I wasn't using this so you can say I went ham with glitter
@@KitschSnitch i love myself some glitter. I would love to try pat McGrath and that is on my list after the Trudon Deux perfume. I finally have a job i can wear perfume.
I never bought it because I didn't know how to use the darker colors as an accent at the outer end. I too just found the same 4 shades as Kat to be beautiful. So even at the 50% mark off it wasn't worth the price. But I do appreciate this series.
Did you buy this palette when it first came out? I bought mine a few years later but I noticed from your palette that the transition mattes on yours is warm but the ones I have are cool toned and that bothers me so much cause it looks muddy on me. And I saw Kathleen Lights do a brown smokey eye tutorial as a farewell to this palette and even she said that it was too cool toned than what she remembers. Ugh I hate when companies change shit when they don't need to and don't say anything. I prob would have bought another palette if I'd known
In Brazil they kept it the same price, even as the naked Heat, isn’t that awful... it’s like we live in another world, where stores can do whatever they want, because just a little parcel of the people know what’s going on with the rest of the world...
Hey Kat, weather is good starting to warm up... Would love for you guys to come visit... either that or I need to get my butt back to Melbourne ( all my friends down there are telling me it's my turn to visit them) xoxox
True, but it is designed to be an every day palette that most people can wear to school or work and it fits that purpose perfectly, which is why it was so popular.
To be fair, gunmetal and creep are more nude(ish) for darker skinned people. Like someone with a skin tone similar to nayma tang or Jackie aina. (But I low key agree, it’s not a nude for you or I)
Blue and grey are not a nude shade for anyone, which was my point about them not being nudes. It might suit deeper skin tones better but technically a nude for deeper skin tones are variations of browns
I always get sad when beauty gurus/bloggers say that deep shimmery shades should be mattes because they're for deepening the crease. Not for everyone! (Of course a black) But for me shimmery blackened browns (especially with a cooler pink or taupe undertone) is the easiest shades to use. Much moreso than a matte medium brown which looks like wearing a setting powder as eyeshadow lol.
I adore this series kat!! Please keep this going into next year!! I love seeing how you you pair colors together, what looks you come up with, and how you can vary a look even when using the same colors.
Sarah Roberson I love series like these too they’re so much fun!
I love these videos. It’s so nice to see people using older palettes instead of using the newest thing one time and never again.
Kenidi Calamity I love these videos also. I love seeing people use older items too so they can be reappreciated!! ❤️
I'm thrilled that you used a discontinued palette for your look. So many beauty bloggers toss discontinued products as they're no longer available without realizing so many people still own that discontinued product.
We could NEVER let go of our Naked palettes 💜
Such a perfect choice! Naked OG always served the best neutrals for every glam! 👏💜
Halfbaked was my jam in 2010. This pallet was my first grownup makeup purchase and I hit pan on several shades, but it is very much a product of its time.

*waves* Hi Durdles... hoping your day is filled with sun spot chasing
Hi Bonnii! Hows the weather up in Brissy? We will have to come back and visit soon xoxox
Hey Kat, weather is good starting to warm up... Would love for you guys to come visit... either that or I need to get my butt back to Melbourne ( all my friends down there are telling me it's my turn to visit them) xoxox
yeah, the problem really is there isnt much you can do with it, so youre kinda stuck in a box
