  • Thank you for watching! I have had some much fun on this Ugly Duckling Collaboration with such amazing and talented artists and craftsmen! The rules of the ugly duckling challenge are simple, find the ugliest piece of furniture you possibly can and give it new life. The winner of "biggest transformation" will be featured on my channel next week.
This piece is SO MUCH worse than it looks. It was literally falling apart in every way possible. Can we save it????

I guess you didn't lock the list of contributors to the challenge. Today checking to see the ones I didn't get to yesterday, I find a whole bunch of video stuff added to the list by some spammer. Happened with another challenge I followed once before.

A lot of hard work went into this piece and the outcome is beautiful. The wear and tear the years have wrought gives this piece a sense of grace you don't find in modern pieces. Great job, Cory!

Your husband is fabulous. I love that you work as a team. I absolutely agree with your philosophy about the dents and dings in this piece. They tell a story of everything this piece has been through. I think the final outcome was perfect. Great choice to do it like this, rather than trying to bring it back to original condition. This is SOOO much better. Great job!!

I am glad you tested that first piece for lead. In restoring an historic Italianate Villa with some large dogs, I unfortunately did not understand what that meant when the dust from sanding and removing paint caused their illness. All dogs had the lead chelated from their systems but later other problems arose. You are so ready to protect yourself and new life that I am glad to see you again on this week's challenge. This was a real labor of love for an outstanding Mom. Thank you for your music too. The piece is worthy of all that labor.

This is my first time watching. I love that you saved it and honored it's past. It is definitely from the depression. There were pieces made with really fancy veneers and pieces that were painted wood grain, or had an applique put on. The painted ones were called borax.

Cory. This is one of the first challenge videos that I have had a chance to watch. I was blown away by the number of things you both did that I have never considered. If you have seen any of my videos, there has always been a buffet almost identical to this in the background. I cannot wait to finish it now. Will be coming back to this video for ideas. Also, love the music. Found myself singing along to the first one. Brought back so many memories! Thank you for good, quality content and for hosting. I have old work tables that I used to set my pieces of furniture on. I was lucky enough to go to a flea market and find lights that I can use when I set my furniture upside down. If you're not outside you can't really see everything but these lights that the contractors use are amazing, I just love them. I hope that you get some if you don't have any.
