Paying homage to a classic West Coast 90's Hip-Hop song; the Lowriding culture, the beautiful Northern Cali summer weather, and the City Of Hayward.
My Daughter Jayla and I randomly re-did the "Summertime In the LBC" song.,
Kept the same vibe, switched up the lyrics and created our own version adding that HWD Bay Area twist to it.
All of HayWarD is a huge part of my life, I got memories all through this city! From being raised on the South in my elementary Tyrrell / La Vista Junior High days, to moving to North Side Hayward during my Hayward High School Ast /Flagg , Sunset , Smalley Ave teenage/ young adult years.
But the location of where we shot this video is special to me because its the exact area I was born and began my life in (27942 Manon Ave Apartment C)
Although a lot of historic Hayward structures like Cal State, Robot Park, etc.. are gone, I spent my childhood days at that same 7-11 seen in the background, a bad ass kid, riding my bike up and down Tennyson Rd, eating burgers, fries and milkshakes from the same burger spot (Cecil's)
To be here with my familia, and friends, my wife and kids decades later doing this song with my oldest daughter Jayla is super dope to me.
I look at those palm trees in the far background of this video on the corner of Manon and Tennyson in front of 7-11 and drift on a memory of how those same trees were there when I was like 5 years old. I think " man time flies, my mom has passed away and those same palms are still standing tall decades later."
I trip on stuff like that. If they don't chop em down those trees will outlive all of us.
Crazy right?
But back on subject:
unfortunately the day we shot this video, the Hayward Police Department shut us down and blocked off Tennyson Rd so no more Lowriders can enter.
We were told there will be no more cruising in Hayward. I know some people don’t like the whole cruising idea because at times the functions get ruined by knuckleheads which can give the cruising scene a bad reputation leaving the residents and community a bad taste in their mouth, but overall they’re family orientated, with a beautiful vibe and an amazing showcase of classic cars.
We need to take notes on how San Jose did it, fight back, and start a Lowrider Council Of Hayward so we can keep the culture alive.
As far as this video itself,
I didn’t want nothing more than just to capture something special with my daughter for my family and friends to watch, but I’m glad a lot more people than I expected tuned in.
Appreciate that !! Something that is created natural takes no effort.
