    FREEDIVING AND MERMAID INSTRUCTOR: I ended up becoming an SSI Level 2 Freediving Instructor and Mermaid Instructor! All of my equalization issues that I had to work through gave me a solid foundation to help others work through their equalization issues. I’m now running courses in both Las Vegas, Nevada and near Port Angeles, Washington. For more information or to schedule a course near you, feel free to reach out! www.aquanautsfreediving.com
    OCEAN-THEMED ATHLEISURE CLOTHING LINE FOR OCEAN ENTHUSIASTS: For those who have been following my vlog or other social media, you’ll know that I’m a very active person and I love to cram as many activities into my day as possible, from rock climbing, to freediving, to trail running, cycling, acro, and more! I’ve created an athleisure line geared towards freedivers, merfolk, and other ocean enthusiasts. The matching rash guards, leggings, and sports bras provide stylish and color coordinated protection against the sun and jellyfish stings, and they’re a reef friendly alternative to chemical sunscreens! I have merchandise for both men and women. Check out my clothing line at www.aquanautsclothing.com and let me know what you think!
    DIVING EDUCATION FOR OCEAN CONSERVATION: I recently won the title of Miss Mermaid Nevada 2021, and it has been my goal to provide affordable diving education to get people into the ocean and more passionate about ocean conservation. To learn more about this project, please look up We of the Sea on Facebook.

      I actually have some collaborations coming up with a very knowledgeable freediving coach on just that subject! Fingers crossed, but there's some freediving travel in my future and I'm taking my viewers with me!

    I’d love to hear about the experiences of other freedivers who have gone through a freediving instructor internship or those from centers who have zero to hero programs. How did my experience compare to what you experienced or what your center offers? I’d love to start a dialogue in an effort to get more information about freediving internships so those who are just starting out in their journey have more information to fuel their decision-making process. In my next few videos, I’ll be posting about the frequency of freediving related accidents and injuries that occurred during my internship (along with information on how instructor candidates successfully avoided them) and some questions to ask when choosing a freediving instructor internship. If you’re a center that offers freediving instructor internships, please feel free to contact me as I’ll be comparing internship offerings in an upcoming video.

    Great video, excellent info and editing, yet I agree that you should remix the audio and upload it again. Sometimes your voice is quiet, sometimes your voice can be heard easily, and too much of the time the music is louder than your voice and quite distracting. Otherwise it is a great video! It should be a quick and easy fix and you can re-posted within a day or two.

      I'd love to fix this, but I'm going to have to hold off for a bit! Pulled an all nighter to get this out while struggling with wifi and editing on my phone. I'll be doing a trip, but will be back to editing and making videos in a few weeks!

    Hi Rachel !!! I’ve always wanted to become a free diver and made it my goal after I graduated from high school. Unfortunately my family does not like this dream of mine but it is what I love. I am not sure how to start this dream but your videos has taught me a lot and made me build the courage to go for it.

    • @thesailingsiren
      @thesailingsiren  5 лет назад +2

      Hello Cyara, the cool thing about freediving is that you don't have to choose. It's nice to have a conventional career (I'm also a pharmacist), but freediving gives you a lot of flexibility. You can work as an instructor both part and full time! Let me know if you have questions along the way.

    Rachel, it would be nice to see you upload techniques on stay calm when you go for depth. I no longer have equalization issue but I constantly become tensed as I go deeper.

    • @thesailingsiren
      @thesailingsiren  5 лет назад +2

      Hey Arious! The single technique that I can share with you that allowed me to relax was repetition. With comfort and familiarity at each depth, I was able to build up confidence. With confidence, I was able to build up comfort and relaxation, which allowed me to go deeper. If I notice contractions on the way down, it's my belief that I have some unconscious tension that I hold in my core and I don't go deeper. I'll stay at the same depth for several training sessions until those "contractions" go away. Here's a video by a RUclipsr whose videos have helped me a lot and his thoughts on approaching depth. I hope you find it useful! ruclips.net/video/Kv-iX1YX3Tw/видео.html

    Do you have problems equalizing every time if you don't take precautions beforehand?

    • @thesailingsiren
      @thesailingsiren  4 года назад +1

      To be honest, it depends on the day. Sometimes, I have no issue and take no precautions. Other days, I can take all of the precautions and still have equalization issues. It's all about listening to your body and not pushing it when the equalizing is an issue. Better to keep injury free and be able to dive another day. :) I try to maintain a relatively low sugar and low dairy diet, as well as avoid beers and wine when I want to dive the next day.

    How long are you able to hold your breath underwater to the max? How deep can you free dive with and without fins? How far can you swim underwater on one single breath with and without fins at length?

    • @thesailingsiren
      @thesailingsiren  4 года назад +2

      5:08 STA, 41 m CWB, just started training CNF but 26 meters easily, 85 m DYN, 100 m DNF. I had mentors who stressed comfort, technique, and repetition over pushing myself to the absolute max. I think it was a valuable lesson. Consistent progression that allows for adaptation but also allows for adequate rest.
