The locomotive is a # 2018 . Cars include Lionel Lines caboose , helium tanks in a gondola , Baby Ruth boxcar , and a metal flat car . Original track was 027 . The following Christmas , Super O appeared under the tree . Kept getting new sets etc. until 1964 , and for the first time in sixty years all this will find a new home on a brand new layout ! Super O double track mainline is the main feature . Been dreaming about this layout for a long time . Great memories , great hobby .
machia0705 Wow that sounds like awesome a christmas(es) !! I actually have a lionel 2018 and baby ruth boxcar! also your layout sounds amazing! are you going to make a video series on youtube of it?
L-shaped layout . 20x2 / 12x2 with two 4x4 sections for turn arounds . Yes I'll Post it . You running anything now , have a layout ? Mine only made it under the tree all these years . That 2018 will probably like running on a 32 foot mainline ! Finally !
machia0705 Sounds good! I will definitely subscribe! and yes i have many post war lionel engines and i now have a 4x8 table and a small extension. i hope it will be an 8x8 in the future but probably not. I have some videos of it on my channel too. Also in my opinion long trains running down a long straight away is the best scene! lol
Got my dads set up from the 50's < Lots of memories < now im 60 gave it to my nephew < Him and his son enjoy it ! They have a newer track now < That replaces the old metal track < Its still working great! At like 75 years old
what I would give to live in the late 40s early 50s- life was great, and seeing Lionel at its peak, when every boy wanted a turbine or 736 Berkshire, or a super chief.
There is an episode of Ozzie and Harriet with lots of post war Lionel .There are parts filmed in a hobby train shop and the family living room. Got to google Ozzie and Harriet with electric trains.
It's quite interesting to note that trains haven't gotten any cheaper, yet the quality goes down...Even with inflation, I just feel like the old trains gave you a whole different kind of experience.
Railfanning by Ray - AmtrakBNSF85 Still really cheap. most O gauge sets cost around $300-600 online. pity model trains have turned into such a expensive hobby
robbieyh 100% china now, Lionel and MTH are just marketing companies. One big company in communist China makes over 90% of the worlds toy and scale trains now. They own the tooling, and dictate the prices and production. We are their hostage.
19. 95 was for the 0.27 set they had their real expensive set then too I remember my dad came home with a $75 engine greatest day of my life I:-) can't remember if it was new or used sure look new to me
RRRF........Don't forget--they were equipped with rail-gripping Magne-Traction !!! You have to keep that in mind--and they didn't even need a B-unit to charge up that 50% grade !!! lol I think they either rotated the camera to make a slight grade look steeper, or perhaps they filmed the train going down the grade in a "reverse move", and played back the clip in reverse for editing into the commer- cial !! Voila !!!! 8-11-17
The government made a big stink about all the commercials that were directed toward children. Hogwash! These commercials were stimulating to the imagination. They were like the catalog had come to life. I couldn't wait for the new ones each year.
The world was a much simpler place back then. Thanks for sharing this great bit of model railroad history.
back when model trains were as big as game systems. How I wish I was there.
I got my first set in 1956, still running ! Great hobby. Great trains.
Awesome! What set? Which one?

Great collection of commercials from the glory days of the Lionel Corporation. Luv it!
I do too!
My Great Grandfather got my grandfather a train set, then he got one for my Dad, and then Me. And I still have the ‘48 671 Freight set.

+Bill Salvey ikr
oh,yeah!,this one this one brings back my childhood memories i'm now 28years old and i keep them running good and also in good shape to.
Railfanning by Ray - AmtrakBNSF85 Still really cheap. most O gauge sets cost around $300-600 online. pity model trains have turned into such a expensive hobby
today as low as 299.99
Adjusted for inflation that’s correct
"Lionel Trains, as low as $19.95!"
I had the engine with the smoke-you put a pill into the smokestack, and a heating element made the smoke-what simple days---
Remember this song? "There's real smoke a puffin, the whistle you hear, I'm a Lionel (toot)(toot) engineer."
yes!!
I wish Lionel train sets were still 19.95
Same
i Wish Lionel Made Sets Like The Ones Back Then For A normal Price
I remember clips from this were used in the TM video, A Lionel Christmas.
Made in the U.S.A. Need I say more!

lionel is now bringing back there factories in the USA
@@jenniferwhitewolf3784 are you okay?
What other AMERICAN MADE toy made in the 40’s and 50’s has replacement parts available and can/will still function perfectly.?
I have plans to rebuild the first TV commercial's layout for my family's lake house. :)
That was historical cool
They once knew how to invest in toys♥️
WAIT TILL 2019 COMES AROUND. LIONEL VISION LINE AND LEGACY.
I wonder if there were daughters in the past get these amazing trains as presents in the past?
I loved them. First saw and learned of them in the `90s. I even named my cat Lionel!!!🤟
I had go to the model train store in calgary canada
I seen one of those commercial on my Tm books and video release of Lionel the movie I think it was part 3.
I have a lionel train my mom and dad got me when I was a little boy. I'am 63 and I know if I set it up today it would run.
Indeed it really seems real!
I have a micro racers set that runs well. I also have a 6-8-6 and black river freight
19. 95 was for the 0.27 set they had their real expensive set then too I remember my dad came home with a $75 engine greatest day of my life I:-) can't remember if it was new or used sure look new to me
6-8-6 mah baby On the first one!
That grade with the Santa Fe…. Lionel's BS marketing scams. Ah well…. there still great trains!
RRRF........Don't forget--they were equipped with rail-gripping Magne-Traction !!! My F3s can barely make it up a 6% grade let alone that incline in the clip. Guess no one ever sued Lionel for false advertising though!
Like these old lionel commercials
That was historically
What year?
Wow! This is so awesome! Do you have any idea what year this commercial aired?
The catalog shown in the one commercial is from 1953.
Historical fance and historical pululer
19.99
Some day🙏
The government made a big stink about all the commercials that were directed toward children. Hogwash! These commercials were stimulating to the imagination. They were like the catalog had come to life. I couldn't wait for the new ones each year.
And now a remote switch is $100...
My dream never did come true
I wonder what happened to the layout they used to film all this? Wonder if the kid got to keep it?
Dylan Hale Most likely not, that's a very expensive layout
And big thinkers
And now I wonder how 20.00 dollars turned into 1300 dollars
I had made my own expense train I named cullen experience trian
I same gondola at 0:57.
WAIT TILL YOU SEE WHATS INSTORE FOR 2019.
I wish they were as cheap as 19.95 now days
Tryorse they would probs go out of business. Life was pretty simple. It's a bit more complex now
Same commercial twice
GIRLS LIKE LIONEL TRSINS TOO!!!
It's a shame a American Icon now made in CHINA were good, now over priced JUNK>
"clean, white smoke..."
Sounds like the republicons trying to deny global warming. LOL!
