There are moments in life that teach unforgettable lessons. When we recently retired, we traveled to help out family members. When we returned home several weeks later, we were amazed at the number of unknown callers everyday. Each call was allowed to leave a voice mail, but no one did. Whew! The funniest moment was when one time, I checked the caller ID to see our phone number listed w/my husband's name. We were both home and laughed and ignored it. We do not pick up many calls. Scammers have many funny ways to get our attention.

  • @robert5

I set my ringtone to silence. Then I ad custom ringtone for each contact, family, local business etc as contacts can each be added to groups and groups can be assigned a custom ringtone.
When some one calls not in my contact list phone makes no noise. When family member calls a custom ringtone plays for each family member. When a local business in my contact list calls phone says a local business is calling.
I have had it setup like this for years. It is so effective my phone is now boring because I never get calls much.
Oh and did same thing for text. Works. If I need to I can easily change back to default ringtone if I need to get a call from some one or some business not in address book, then, switch back to silence as needed.

The Google Pixel phones have a call screen option where if somebody calls you from a number that's not in your contacts the Google Assistant will answer it for you and if they don't leave a brief message stating who they are it will tell them that the person you're trying to reach is not available and most times you won't even notice they called unless you look at your call log. It's a beautiful feature that all phones should have and it cuts down on a lot of distraction throughout the day, especially if you're a busy person like myself.

If someone really wants to talk, they can leave a message in voice-mail & if someone wants to talk one-on-one, they make an appointment & we put the phone on the hook 10 minutes b4 the appointment until 10 minutes after the appointment. If nobody calls within that 20 minute window the phone goes back OFF the hook. The situation with telemarketers and scammers has gotten that BAD ! Thanks for reading.

If you block the scammer calls, then you won't be able to sue for $500 per call for each violation of the TCPA, the RFDCPA and whatever else your State may allow.
It's not hard to sue companies in small claims court, or to find a good lawyer who will pursue those rights for you.
Get on the National Do Not Call Registry because those allow you to receive $500 per unwanted call. It adds up.
I'm currently litigating three cases. Good luck!

News flash. There were work arounds for every option or setting you just showed. Something I've learned in my short 42 years. For every straight as an arrow, nice guy out there trying to help stop crookedness there's someone out there 10 times smarter, 10 times faster and 10 steps ahead in the criminal world. Scammers and hackers had ways around those settings the day before they came to your phone. If you think that's not true your only lying to yourself. Be diligent. Stay ahead, think smart and for God sake if you don't know the number don't answer the damn phone. Scammers need someone to talk to in order to scam them. Ie; no one to talk to no one to scam. Also sometimes the answer is so ridiculously stupid and easy that it's almost unbelievable.

My Google Pixel 8 phone has AI built in, which will screen all incoming calls not listed in my Contacts and allow me to either reject outright, or have an AI "voice" ask the caller to identify themselves. Most of the callers are robocalls, so they don't respond, thus being automatically blocked in case they call me again. I have found that if I block ALL calls outside my contacts list, I miss calls from doctors' offices, because they use a second line to call me and that number usually isn't in my contacts list. I also may be expecting a call back from a vendor (plumber, for example) and they aren't in my contacts list either; but they will have a proper caller ID so that I can identify their legitimacy.

These spam calls are absolutely maddening, I get like 10-15 a day. Blocking the numbers doesn't help, they just spoof another number and keep calling. And yes I know about silencing unknown callers but that still doesn't stop them from showing up as missed calls, so I still have 10-15 missed call notifications every day. I swear I'm about to just not have a phone anymore.

@@elmer528, I've been using Do Not Disturb for years and it's set to only allow contacts to ring through. I got tired of being awakened because at the time I drove mostly at night and when I'm awakened I can't magically get back to sleep. I have Do Not Disturb to engage at 8 in the morning and turn off around 7 which is when they tend to call.
If it's not a Contact the call goes to voicemail. If I see the phone screen light up and I'm in the mood to mess with them I'll answer in Korean which really confuses them and they don't call back.
