  • “Great Things” is a joyful celebration of what God has done for us, so it’s a straight up song of praise, not of WHO God is as much, but more about WHAT He’s done. And in particular, the WHAT that He’s done is save us from our sin and despair.
    So… there’s no shortage of scripture relating to this song, but the best is probably Psalm 126:2-3
    Then our mouth was filled with laughter,
    and our tongue with shouts of joy;
    then they said among the nations,
    “The Lord has done great things for them.”
    The Lord has done great things for us;
    we are glad.
    Stylistically, this song is very… Phil Whickham. Does it sound like “This is Amazing Grace” and “Grace on Top of Grace”? sure. But in a music genre dominated by mid-tempo us-centric emotional ballads, I’m happy to take as many upbeat celebratory songs as I can get. I like to open a set with this song, not only because it’s got great energy, but also because it remind us of what we’ve gathered to do. There’s a strong come and see message. Come let us worship the King… See what our savior has done.
    It’s also very useful when you want to just give thanks to God. And it declares not only His faithfulness to us in the past, but also resolves to trust Him for the future.

    Have you ever thought about doing a history video on hymns.

      It’s not an area I know much about, but I’ll consider it. Thanks!
